It’s pretty grindy, but the mechanics are fun and they space the story out enough that I read the cool story when it pops up. I chose the classic difficulty, and so far it’s been casual with occasional stress, which I enjoy. Keep in mind I’ve only gotten to the first boss, but so far this is a good game. Finally, there aren’t really any ads. Sometimes the option to watch an ad for some money pops up, but that’s it. ### 5/5 — Fantastic game *2025-08-02, version 1.4.0* Love the simple interface. The game is a pretty fun adventure game that sets you in a rich and immersive world. The game also offers pretty cool mechanics that I won’t spoil and it has a lot of customisation. On one note I did enjoy the older illustrations a bit more but I do see the energy and vibe in the current work. I just wish they had more complex build possibilities ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Immersive and fun but flawed with gatekeeping ads *2025-06-05, version 1.3.9* Ads prevent you from doing regular game functions without watching them so you don’t really get to explore the game properly and understand if you even like it before being forced to watch an ad to continue playing, you could technically but for the 10 minutes that I was allowed to play I learned that the game works in days and missing out on things like wages to avoid watching ads is a pretty big deal long term. Now if you don’t have internet connection it’s even worse, because then you’re stuck. Otherwise seemed like a fun concept, ruined by greed. ### 1/5 — bug found! *2024-11-13, version 1.3.2* this game is 5stars. But now, I cannot use double attack! it seems that i picked 2 versions of the double tap attack and then i erased one of them and now the remaining one (the double attack at level 5) is not working anymore. Really i don't want to forget and relearn it from scratch, it would be like 5000 to do that i put the 1 star to get your attention, obviously this game is 5stars ### 2/5 — Combat *2025-05-13, version 1.3.9* The long press abilities can’t be used it locks me into my last unlocked bricking my character ### 2/5 — So Close to Being Good! *2024-12-02* Let me get my compliments out of the way: I’ve played a ton of Grim Quest, the predecessor to this game. I must say this game does a great job building on and improving the mechanics of said predecessor. Most of the gameplay is a good improvement overall. This makes the major gripes I have even more saddening. First of all, the use of AI for images. It’s subtle at first but after playing I noticed more and more that it had to be AI. Not only is it AI art and therefore gross for all the wrong reasons, but it clashes with all of the clean, simple, handmade assets. It’s a shame, really. Second of all, the ads. Having to waste a minute to collect my much needed 30 gold after every single dungeon is such a pain. While I dislike it, I’d maybe consider even paying the few bucks to remove ads if not for the use of AI. The little ad at the bottom of the screen during dungeons is also annoying and clashes with the aesthetics of the game, but that’s less of an issue. I want this game to be something I want to play. It’s a shame it’s held back so much by just a few things. ### 3/5 — In theory good *2025-07-11, version 1.4.0* The game itself is solid and you have fun returning to it but it has its downsides. You can play for free but are bombarded with ads. Probably one of the reasons your phone or iPad will heat up like a stove for playing this. Please optimize, otherwise you can’t play for more than a few minutes. Also the prices in the store are a bit wild. The price to remove ads is ok, then it’s like you buy the game that’s fair. But 10 or 14 bucks for 3 items is a bit too greedy for my taste. ### 4/5 — Minor bug report *2026-06-03* This isn’t to rate the game, as I haven’t had the time to properly play it yet. Just wanted to inform you of a bug. I started the game, bought myself a dagger, a skill, and a spell. The game has what you’d actually want in an RPG: good amount of world building , challenging (but reasonably so) battles, character building that requires some actual though, and a good soundtrack. Unfortunately there are some problems with this game albeit minor ones. The game tends to cause the phone to overheat which cause screen dimming making it harder to see. The game also occasionally crashes which while infrequent, can mean you lose a bit of progress. Given the way the game is set up however this is more of an annoyance rather than actual problem. ### 4/5 — Great Little RPG, but… *2025-01-07* I love these games. The Grim Series are a great little turn based RPG series with a bit of D&D, and a dark narrative. I’ve always played a aoe mage in these games because crowd control is key! But I have a small problem with Omens. After switching to a new IPhone I got for Christmas, I downloaded my save from my old phone to the one I’m using now so I can continue my adventure. However, I’ve seem to have lost all audio. No more music, swooshes and zaps, and clunky clanks of coins can be heard from my game. Nothing. And I also lost my No more ads purchase I made. I found the game mechanics fun to work with and optimize within my character’s “build.” And it seems there is opportunity to play with two other quite different builds. If you like RPGs in general and want a game that you can play either [almost] as little at a time or as long at a time as you want, this is a winner for mobile for sure. The game’s mechanics were even better than the prior two games, but that’s more personal than universal. Many people enjoy the others as their favorite of the three. There are ads, but pretty minimal compared to most mobile games. To be clear, you play one ad for each dungeon level you complete. Except for after beating [what might be] the final boss, then there were 4-5, but actually not ads, just tabs that pop up and can be closed right away. I hope we see further exploration with choice based narrative as the build to the finale in this game was made all the better by true choice, but I know that is a tall order for one writer. Keep exploring and keep growing! The gameplay and narrative blend well and the grind is paced in line with the story and the overall progression.
