I’ve been using GrimoHex whenever I want to mess around with Digitakt-style beats without pulling out my actual Digitakt.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.6 — 2026-07-07

What's new:

• Unified pads — all 16 pads are interchangeable sample or MIDI slots. Convert any pad with a long-press; your sound and MIDI settings are both kept, so switching back restores exactly what was there.

• New onboard drum kit — 16 fresh, original sounds (kick, snare, toms, hats, clap, cowbell, shaker, cymbals, percussion, and an acid-style FX bass note) fill every pad on a new project.

• First-launch demo groove — open the app for the first time and press Play to hear a full pattern built from the new kit, showing off locks, conditions, micro-timing, and effects sends.

• Step recording — arm STEP mode and the pads stay live: every tap writes into the current step and automatically advances to the next one. Use the on-screen REST and CLR controls to skip or clear a step without missing a beat.

• Export your patterns — bounce the current pattern straight to a WAV file and share it, with every parameter lock, micro-timing nudge, and effect baked in exactly as it sounds live.

• KEYS voicing — MONO, POLY, and LEGATO modes for playing samples chromatically. Play full chords in POLY, or glide smoothly between notes in LEGATO, right from the same key grid.

• Master compressor, finished — a smoother glue compressor with a new makeup-gain dial and a live gain-reduction meter so you can see and hear exactly how much it's working.

• True stereo filtering — stereo samples now filter with independent left and right channels for a cleaner, wider sound.

• Filter and effects cleanup — the filter type selector now matches what you actually hear, dead knobs were removed, and the delay gained a ping-pong on/off switch.

Fixes:

• Fixed a bug where missing sample files could silently break a project; pads now clearly show what's missing and recover automatically once the file is back.
• Fixed playback sometimes not starting on the very first tap after opening or reloading a project.
• Fixed early-timed hits and retriggers occasionally landing a step late.
• Fixed the delay effect not staying in sync when tempo changes.
• Fixed KEYS presses that could occasionally register a touch without triggering sound — key playing is now noticeably more responsive and reliable.

Thanks for playing — keep the feedback coming.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-03

Version 1.0.5 focuses on workflow polish, sequencing stability, and a smoother sampling experience.

• Improved overall sequencer responsiveness
• Refined sample recording, trim, and playback behavior
• Improved controls for faster beat creation
• Cleaned up several interface details
• Fixed bugs and improved general stability

### 1.0.4 — 2026-05-11

Version 1.0.4 focuses on a better sampling workflow.

• Rebuilt Sample Record with a cleaner hardware-style recorder layout
• Added smoother live waveform and input level visuals
• Added trim and zoom controls for recorded samples
• Added auto-normalize, with the option to keep the original level
• Added sample naming when saving recordings
• Improved retakes: discarding a take now keeps the recorder open
• Cleaned up the App Menu so project controls are easier to find

### 1.0.3 — 2026-05-06

This update tightens up GrimoHex’s control pages and improves MIDI pad behavior.

MIDI pads now send a complete note lifecycle even when the sequencer is stopped, including in newly created projects. This fixes an issue where external MIDI gear could receive a note-on without a proper note-off until playback was started.

Control pages have also been cleaned up for a more consistent layout. Parameter labels now sit consistently inside their control boxes, dials are better aligned, top-right selectors are more compact, and page spacing has been refined across SRC, AMP, LFO, MIDI, FX, QUANTIZE, ASSIGN, and MASTER pages.

The MIDI SRC channel control is now a proper 1–16 channel selector instead of a rotary dial, while preserving the same project settings and MIDI behavior.

Also included:

More consistent parameter box styling across pages
Cleaner LFO and SRC selector layouts
Improved spacing above the pad grid
Removed redundant page metadata text
Removed extra QUANTIZE helper text
Defensive MIDI cleanup on project load, new project, transport changes, and destination changes
Existing projects remain compatible.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-05-05

What’s New in GrimoHex 1.0.2

This update refines the main workflow with a cleaner hardware-inspired layout and more precise timing tools.

New focused Quantize page with TRK and GLOBAL timing controls
Added Micro Timing editing for nudging selected trigs early, late, or back to center
Added Q REC for quantized or loose live recording
Improved iPad layout, including a better landscape editing view
Larger pads, clearer buttons, and more readable labels across iPhone and iPad
Cleaner Quantize page layout
Fixes for live-recorded microtiming, layout overlap, and simulator audio stability
Additional regression tests for navigation, quantize, microtiming, and live recording behavior
