### 3/5 — Good art but

*2025-07-03, version 1.0.5*

The jumps are impossible I spent a hour just trying to do one jump developers please fix this

### 4/5 — Beautiful but not suited to iOS

*2025-04-04*

The game looks GORGEOUS without a doubt, and the level design is excellent. Finding little secret paths feels extra rewarding. It’s rare to find a game with such low consequences that stop feels consequential. Without a doubt this is stylish and fun.
Unfortunately, there are some problems: The game did not translate to mobile very well, with the occasional camera zoom out making it impossible to see where your character is, and the on screen controls feel gummy and imprecise, exacerbating the next issue. There are occasional platform puzzles that require a level of precise placement and/or timing that makes advancing through them almost seem like random chance (the circle room before the giant bird? Come on!!). The designers made it very clear what you’re supposed to do to advance, but the margin for error is so slim, and the tap controls make it feel downright impossible. Most of these frustrating sections were only completed by attaching an external controller, though that’s not perfect either: the game frequently does not recognize an attached backbone controller, leaving me with no physical controls AND no on-screen controls
This one might be better left to play on a different platform, but if you’re going to try this on Apple Arcade, get a physical controller first. Otherwise, you’ll ohh and ah at the beautiful hand-drawn elements and unique backgrounds… until you get stuck and bail

### 4/5 — Love it

*2025-03-25, version 1.0.5*

Beautiful graphics and story. However, I finished playing Gris+, where I had the options of the extra features. When I opened the app in my iPad I lost those features having to restart the game again. Is there a way to recover my old game? Thank you

### 2/5 — No controller support on MacOS

*2025-03-11, version 1.0.4*

I started this game on Apple TV with a controller and loved it. I went to continue on my Mac and it does not support controllers. I wish this were updated for controller support.

### 4/5 — Like a watercolor painting game!

*2024-11-06, version 1.0.5*

Hi! The name is Freedduck. Just my code name, okay? Anyway, this game is completely lovely! At one point it made me cry. And I honestly don’t know why I cried! However, the real gris is kinda more fun really, even though there ain’t really no difference. And why did you make another Gris? Surely one is good enough. Just asking. Bya! Have a good time, gamers!

### 5/5 — Excellent, vibrant, and fun

*2024-10-23, version 1.0.5*

This game looks absolutely fantastic. It’s so colorful and unique. Every scene feels like a painting, and its geometric style with organic colors really pull it together. The game is also quite fun, playing a little like a Metroidvania game, but with more direct pathing. You acquire new abilities which let you access different parts of the world, and each section feels very unique, building on the last. Some of the puzzles are really fun and memorable too.

### 2/5 — It made me cry

*2024-10-23, version 1.0.5*

It made me cry but not because it was beautiful. This game seems to be about the stages of grief and I certainly went through all 7 of them before level 3 😭. I gave it 2 stars because even though I rage quit at green, the graphics are beautiful and the cube friend is adorable.

### 5/5 — Absolutely stunning game

*2024-10-13*

Such a big fan of this game. I love it so much, I’ve bought it on three different platforms and completed the game in each one. It’s rare that a game has such a beautiful (and powerful) story, but also incredible gameplay and art - the artwork is what truly sets this game apart from all others. The music is also so moving and complements each scene perfectly. Highly recommend for all who want a beautiful game to continuously play over and over (and never tire of) 💖

### 5/5 — Completely underrated game

*2024-10-12, version 1.0.5*

This game is so well made and so beautiful. I hate all the one star reviews and how little attention it gets. Great game 👍

### 5/5 — A bit glitchy

*2024-10-06, version 1.0.5*

I really love this game, but one time when I got on, I got a new color, right? But then it glitched and I couldn’t get my color, so I had to delete the game and then get it again. Please fix

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2024-09-22, version 1.0.5*

I seriously never write reviews but.. wow! I am so blown away by this game. It felt like I was watching a beautiful story unfold. I can’t even come up with the words to describe how awesome everything was. The visuals and the soundtrack were just so beautiful. I had t even realized how long I was playing because I got so immersed in it. The end gave me goosebumps and even a few tears. Seriously, job well done on one of the best mobile games I’ve ever played!

### 5/5 — Great title

*2024-09-10, version 1.0.5*

Just a joy to play. I love the theme, the set, the challenge. I like that there are no objectives given, but I get to figure out what I'm supposed to do. Well done. Enjoyed a lot.

### 5/5 — Really well done

*2024-08-28, version 1.0.5*

This game is beautifully designed and fun. I felt the emotions of the game, I could feel her grief. I had a hard time putting the game down. I enjoy puzzle type games and this one did not disappoint. It was challenging, intriguing, and fun. The controls were slightly challenging at certain times, but that added to the gameplay fun.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2024-07-28, version 1.0.5*

I’ve never played a game like this before and honestly they did a great job with this one. The art itself ,It told a story ,she was lost ,in sorrow but in the end she ended up finding herself and her colors back🥹. I teared up because as a woman we can relate to being lost sometimes and it feels great to find yourself again. I hope there will be another Gris.Thank you to everyone who made this game possible✝️❤️.

### 5/5 — Beautiful, healing, outstanding

*2024-07-05*

This is the most beautiful game I have ever played. I can’t express how much i enjoyed this experience. I lost my brother to cancer in 2018. No words can describe losing your brother at 12 and then not being able to heal. This game encapsulates the stages of grief so beautifully and has the hardships of getting through those stages. You never lose your grief but working through it helps. I adore this game more than words can describe. I will be recommending to every person I talk to. I hope this game heals all of the beautiful souls that play it❤️

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Can’t get far on the free version

*2025-04-07, version 1.0.5*

I don’t know if i like this game or not because i can’t get far enough without it telling me to pay for the full version.

### 1/5 — pretentious nonsense

*2025-01-07, version 1.0.5*

self indulgent

### 1/5 — Gris

*2025-01-05, version 1.0.5*

When I am in Gris at when you first get up like it’s so hard how do you do it

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2024-10-14, version 1.0.5*

Why the heck did you fell the need to add a extremely long intro without an option to skip. You bafoon. Deleted it before I even got to control

### 1/5 — Walking/Running Simulator

*2024-07-09, version 1.0.5*

This game is so boring. There is literally nothing to do but run. Graphics are okay but not enough to make up for the lack of depth. This is a glorified puzzle platformer and running simulator.

### 1/5 — Frustrating!

*2024-06-25, version 1.0.5*

How incredibly annoying there are no control instructions! 10 minutes spent jabbing at the screens and she just keeps flopping on the floor. What a waste of what promised to be a beautiful game

### 1/5 — No directions anywhere

*2024-06-08, version 1.0.5*

Why dont they give instructions for iphone 14? Dont waist my time. Game seems promising with the premise but not if i dont know how to use it. Then i search online and no one else knows how to use it either. Plus the devloper has ignored these complaints and hasnt given more directions. The only directions it has it how to jump but it only works sometimes. Telling us how to use the game in detail would be helpful.

### 1/5 — Couldn’t play

*2023-08-17, version 1.0.5*

The controls are not explained and she keeps falling down all the time
I gave up almost as soon as started

### 1/5 — It probably works, but exceeded my IQ

*2023-07-16, version 1.0.5*

Yeah, so I sat through a very long set of credits while she fell. Landed. Got her to move left (how come all the utube walkthroughs go to the right? She wont go that way for me.)

Moved left. Stuck against a set of steps. Can’t do anything but stand up and fall down.

Delete.

### 1/5 — Stylish, but no substance.

*2023-06-26*

Players who cannot hear or who listen to other content while playing, beware. Like a ‘50’s/60’s film, the developers have chosen to include a long, incomprehensible credits scene before any gameplay can begin. If there are audio cues or dialogue that explain this dreamlike app, subtitles are not available. Annoyingly, as the protagonist tumbles lazily and uncontrollably through the stratosphere, their voluminous maxi-dress ignores both gravity and fluid dynamics…strongly foreshadowing the design team’s disregard for both gaming conventions and any sort of rudimentary physics. Players are left with a disorienting and highly(over) stylized introduction, setting the stage for further your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine objectives and challenges. Kudos to the art department, but their efforts needed to be channeled into something more substantive than a slightly-interactive-sketch of a game.

### 5/5 — Amazing Artwork Brings Me Peace

*2025-08-08*

I once thought I had lost my patience. But it’s wonderful to explore this world, gradually discover more colors, and watch them spread out little by little. Just like a watercolor painting, fresh and beautiful.
Graceful and resolute, yet with the ability to break the mold; these are all indispensable, whether in the game or elsewhere. This game reminds me of things I had once forgotten.
It may take some time to adapt at the beginning, but if you’re searching for something you can’t quite name, I think this is a good choice.

### 5/5 — Beautiful Art

*2025-06-17*

This game is so beautifully artistic. This game is an artistic representation of the process of dealing with grief. There is so much symbolism in this! And the landscapes were mesmerizing to look at!
There are no colors at first or other creatures because she’s such in a deep level of grief and depression. As the game builds, it’s amazing to see as she moves past the different stages, all the different creatures and color and life that’s added each section that you weren’t able to see before. It’s a pretty cool concept the way the game keeps adding structure to the same landscape and you pass a section and realize you’ve been there before but how different it is now! At first she’s avoiding the grief inside (the black bird and the eel which made me jump so hard I nearly dropped my phone when it came back) but it of course still comes out. Then you have to face it, because you’ll never be able to move on until you do. Truly beautiful work!!

### 5/5 — Beautiful game

*2025-04-06, version 1.0.4*

This game was deeply emotional, I wanted to cry multiple times while playing. It perfectly depicts grief in such a beautiful way. What an experience. Only downside was right at the very end when the credits started rolling the game crashed and froze and i couldn’t exit it so I had to force quit.. but I mean I had already finished the game so it wasn’t a big deal.

### 5/5 — Never gets old

*2025-02-14*

I have played this game many times over the years. If I could rate it a million stars I would. I don’t know what the other reviews are talking about. The credits at the start aren’t that long. When you play the game you are met with beautiful artwork, music, and storyline. It’s perfect for those people who love games like “Never Alone: Ki Edition” or people who like the chill but depressing backstory kinda games. It’s about a girl who lost her mother and is in grief, lost in her mind and mental issues (according to a review on the version that costs money). The colors that you unlock represent the stages of grief. It says in the achievements of the Game Center for this game that the first stage is “denial” (which is the first stage of grief) than “anger, “bargaining”, “depression” (my favorite stage), and “acceptance”. I understand we all have our own opinions. But I don’t know how someone can hate this game. Have a good day ❤️

### 5/5 — Stunning Game!

*2025-02-09*

Where to even begin! Gris is an absolutely breathtaking experience from start to finish. The hand-drawn art style is visually stunning, with every frame feeling like a painting brought to life. The use of color and animation perfectly captures the emotional journey of the protagonist, immersing you in a world that feels both beautiful and melancholic.

What’s truly remarkable is how the game conveys such deep emotions without a single line of dialogue. Through its fluid animations, subtle environmental storytelling, and hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, you genuinely feel the character’s heartbreak, pain, and eventual healing. The platforming and puzzle elements seamlessly blend into the narrative, making every moment feel intentional and meaningful.

Gris isn’t just a game—it’s an emotional journey, an artistic masterpiece, and a deeply personal experience. If you haven’t played it yet, do yourself a favor and dive in. It’s one of those rare games that sticks with you long after the credits roll.

### 5/5 — LOVED this game- STUNNING!!

*2025-01-25, version 1.0.5*

The art, the music… absolutely gorgeous. I came for the hope of an adventure storyline and stayed because it is a GORGEOUS game.

I played it on my AppleTV with a controller which I think is the way to go because the gameplay can be intricate- plus a tv screen to see the graphics as best as possible!

I really really enjoyed this game. It was nice to have something that isn’t overstimulating and decompressing yet challenging and intentional.

On a storyline note, I think there was a good balance of detail vs vagueness to allow the me to connect with the game and the girl in my own way. Loved that. Fabulous concept and ideation here!

Bravo.

### 5/5 — Simply majestic.

*2025-01-18, version 1.0.5*

It’s the most beautiful game I’ve ever played in my life. The scenery, the music, the magic it holds—everything is so well done. I loved it, I enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Serene

*2025-01-01, version 1.0.5*

I loved playing this game, just relaxed through the first part and then picked it up as you go, the girls skills increase as she passes through each level until its really fun and challenging in parts. I loved the art work, music and overal design. Great to play on iPad. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Utterly beautiful

*2024-11-10, version 1.0.5*

Gris is visually and emotionally beautiful. It will stay with me, and I absolutely recommend it.

### 5/5 — Y’all…

*2024-10-28, version 1.0.5*

I don’t even know what to say. The music is the most inspiring, beautiful, and heartbreaking tunes I’ve ever heard.
If you buy the album, it’s great singing practice for young people. As for the art, mind blowing. Absolutely mind blowing.
The flow of water colors and light make for an extremely beautiful, heart touching game. The graphics are gorgeous, game design and story are so good. BUY IT!! Like NOW.
