## What is GritRace?

Every second. Every station.

Train smarter, race faster. GritRace is built for HYROX, Deadly Dozen, DEKA FIT and ATHX athletes — four formats in one app, with periodized training plans, live race tracking on Apple Watch and split-by-split analysis. No GPS required. No subscription required.

FOUR FORMATS, ONE APP
- HYROX — 8 runs (1 km) + 8 stations: Open, Pro, Doubles, Pro Doubles and Relay
- Deadly Dozen — 12 journeys (400 m) + 12 labours: Solo, Pairs and Relay
- DEKA FIT — 10 runs (500 m) + 10 zones: Elite, Age Group, Teams and Ruck
- ATHX — Strength, Endurance and MetCon X zones with zone score tracking

REAL-TIME ON YOUR APPLE WATCH
One gesture handles every gate: double-tap the Watch at each run-to-station and station-to-run transition, or tap the button on iPhone. Splits, heart rate and gate-to-gate times are recorded live — indoors too. Where GPS can't reach, pace falls back to the Watch's motion sensors, so you keep a live estimate inside the arena.

PERIODIZED TRAINING PLANS
A plan built around your race date, your level and your week — periodized across Base, Build, Peak, Taper and Race Week, with weekly compliance tracking so you know if you're on track.
- Plans for all four formats
- 3 to 6 sessions per week, or set every weekday yourself: gym, run, both, rest
- Log each workout and watch your training load
- Import plans as JSON, export as text, JSON or Hevy CSV
Your first plan is free and stays yours — follow it, complete it, extend it, keep it.

STATION-BY-STATION ANALYSIS
See exactly where you gained and lost time. Every station is scored against performance tiers for your division, and your finish time is ranked against real field data compiled from published HYROX and Deadly Dozen results. DEKA FIT and ATHX zone benchmarks are estimates for now.

PACING & SPLITS
- Negative and positive splitter detection
- Field distribution curve for HYROX and Deadly Dozen solo divisions
- Consistent Pacer detection
- Run drift and pace fade across run segments (Pro)

PERSONAL RECORDS & BADGES
PRs per format, per category and per station. Seven achievements, earned automatically and free: Elite Finish, Advanced Finish, Clean Sheet, Iron Streak, Station King, Consistent Pacer and PR.

WIDGETS & COMPLICATIONS
Home Screen: a dashboard with your race countdown, personal best and last race, plus Today & Recovery. Apple Watch face: Race Countdown and Last Race complications.

PRIVACY FIRST
No accounts. No tracking. No ads. Your race data lives on your devices and syncs through your own iCloud. Nothing leaves your iPhone unless you connect Strava — then your completed races upload there automatically.

FREE + OPTIONAL PRO
Free forever: race tracking on iPhone and Apple Watch, live splits, post-race summary, station best times, progress charts, race-to-race comparison, every badge, your training load and your first training plan.

Pro is a one-time unlock — buy it once, keep it for good. A monthly option exists if you prefer.

Pro adds: Deep Analysis (station weakness, pacing advisor, compromised running, heart-rate insights, transition times, benchmarks and race prediction), Plan vs. Actual, training stats, AI plan import and review, on-demand deload weeks, race CSV export and the Share Race Card.

Built by an athlete who races these formats. Feedback and feature requests welcome — every release ships with user-requested improvements.

GritRace is an independent training app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by HYROX, DEKA, Deadly Dozen or ATHX.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.6 — 2026-08-20

The race ribbon: every race and simulation of the same shape as one bar, split in the order you ran it. All bars on one scale — the width is the finish time, and a segment that grew is one you can see grow. The last bar shows what your training says: every station at the time it actually costs you in training, every run at your own race pace.

NEW
• Race ribbon in Analysis — races, simulations and training in the same units
• Pace progression is back: Zone 2 and race pace across a whole season
• Auto-pause for runs is adjustable — a slider from 5 to 45 seconds
• Analysis tidied up: 32 sections in named bands you fold open and shut
• AI plans now understand rounds, calories and station durations
• Week tiles name the session: "6×800 m @ 4:45" instead of just "Strength"
• Settings can be changed on the iPhone AND on the Watch, and they sync

FIXED
• Simulations now count in full towards your cardio load. Only the running parts used to reach it — the stations, usually the longer and always the harder half, counted for nothing.
• The automatic pause really works: it no longer stops a second into every interval, and it starts itself again when you run on.
• "Keep them" on an AI import really keeps them — completed days stay in the plan.
• The same week no longer appears twice in the plan.
• An accepted pace suggestion can no longer slow a target down.
• On low readiness the session is trimmed without cutting the point of it.
• Deadly ERG and Deadly Mile no longer invent runs the format does not have.
• The elevation profile covers the whole run instead of just the current block.
• The breath coach is marked as a beta and stays off until you turn it on.

### 1.1.5 — 2026-08-14

Stop during a workout run with the GritRace Watch App and the Watch now stops the clock with you, then starts it again when you run on. It reads your steps, not GPS: standing still produces no steps at all, and it works on a treadmill. A pause you pressed yourself never resumes on its own, races and simulations are always timed straight through, and you can switch the whole thing off under Settings > Training & Runs.

Pausing also no longer takes the run screen away. The pages you swipe between stay where they are, and resuming puts you back on the card you were reading.

And voice cues come out of the headphones your music is playing through. The Watch still decides what is said, the phone says it, and the music dips for the sentence. Any headphones, not just AirPods; with no phone in range the Watch speaks, as before.

The larger part of this release sits elsewhere: in the numbers the app puts in front of you.

PLANNING

• Five rounds now look like five rounds. Instead of fifty rows in a column, the round is shown once inside a frame headed "5 rounds", and an edit in it applies to all of them. Eight intervals are one group, not seventeen cards.

• A kilo at a competition station is per hand, and now says so. The dialog asked for "Weight (kg)" while the chip above it read "2 x 27.5 kg", so anyone who typed 55 had planned 2 x 55.

ON THE RUN

• The elevation profile on the Watch goes downhill too. What it drew was accumulated ascent, which by definition only grows, so the line rose steadily while "DESCENT 56 m" sat underneath it.

• The units setting finally reaches the pace. Imperial turned your kilograms into pounds but never your pace: "4:39/mi" over a run that was 7:29/mi.

RACE DAY

• "Target pace 12:17-13:20 /km" over a plan that says 5:00/km. The stored value is already seconds per kilometre and was divided by the lap length a second time: on Deadly Dozen's 400 m lap, 12:30 instead of 5:00. The shorter the lap, the further out the number was.

• Until now you could have been carrying the wrong loads. The division you picked on the Watch was replaced by the men's without a word. And DEKA's official chart heads one column "Female 14+ / Male 65+" - the app read it as two, so every adult woman trained on the 65+ loads: 9 kg per hand on the Farmers Carry instead of 17.5.

• DEKA called one hour "world class", while that same tier's own zone targets and run pace add up to a 33:45 race. The record is 28:28 for men and 31:51 for women. Elite is now under 36:15, each tier computed from its own targets.

AFTERWARDS

• Time in the heart-rate zones was nearly twice too high, on every session: each reading counted as a flat 10 seconds instead of the real gap to the next one. And the heart-rate card could show another session's curve, with that workout's duration, distance and calories above it.

• Four sets of ten at 40 kg are 1.6 tonnes. 400 kg was booked, because only the last set reached the analysis. And a race's stations cost nothing at all in the cardio load - on HYROX that is half the race, and the harder half. Both are filed in once and the load curve recomputed.

• The weekly digest counted the demo races as your history: a world record stood as your personal best on the Today tab.

Also: simulations reach Strava as the workout they are instead of as a run. A race you entered by hand now has its stations in the analysis too. DEKA STRONG and MILE are races in their own right, with their own zone and lap counts. Competition stations show their picture. And settings sit in six areas instead of one long list. "My Workouts" stops collecting cards you never saved; the ones already in there are safe to delete.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-08-11

Your simulations finally count toward your training load
No race ever did — twelve stations booked exactly zero volume. Your existing recordings are filed in once, and the curve now also draws each day's own work, so a single session no longer disappears into a weekly average.

Elevation now comes from the barometer
It was counting stairs, not hills, so a hilly 13 km came back near zero. Descent is counted separately, because a loop that nets to zero is not a flat run.

Your run reaches Strava with its map
The GPS track was never recorded, which is why every map was empty. And heart rate is read reading by reading instead of in ten-second averages, so a sprint interval and the jog after it are two curves again rather than one.

The last number behind an exercise is the one you lifted
Two stores answered the same question and disagreed. On top of that a three-set exercise reported set 1 as "last", and stations had no history at all.

The race prediction reads your simulations
It only ever looked at real races — so a Deadly Dozen prediction had no station times at all, and still published a finish time.

New: Deadly Sprint
12 × 200 m and the same twelve stations at half volume. Weights unchanged.

Also
A session you stopped early but kept now counts everywhere as what it is. A shortened simulation no longer describes itself with the full official prescription. A simulation you ran stays as a template. On the Watch the progress bar has given way to a glow around the edge that closes a little further with every set. And the AI import has a field for what no picker can express.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-08-06

Simulations get their own home — plan them, compare them, analyse them.

• Training + Simulations: two equal libraries instead of one buried under the other
• Your training history now shows workouts AND simulations in one timeline, each with its analysis and a "start it again" button
• Compare simulations against each other, the same way you compare races
• The race planner shows the whole sequence, runs included
• Partial simulations are scaled honestly instead of guessed
• Charts draw straight lines between real data points
• Fixes: cardio load no longer drops a second session on the same day, 0 kg is selectable on bodyweight exercises, and discarding a workout on the Watch now asks first

### 1.1.2 — 2026-08-02

A big update: the workout generator, the analysis section and the iPhone–Watch handoff have all been reworked.

TRAINING & GENERATOR
• One goal "Race Prep / Conditioning" replaces three overlapping modes. Sets and rounds now mean exactly what they say.
• New "All Exercises" button: the full catalog as a grid, filterable by exercise type and muscle group.
• The generator now fits the target duration and only plans what you actually selected.
• Manual edits survive: the intensity slider only scales weights up and down.
• Reorder exercises by drag & drop; blocks get their own reorder screen.
• Repeat a finished workout — a copy with the weights you actually used.

MEASURE WHAT THE EXERCISE MEASURES
• Ergometers ask for the damper/fan level instead of kilograms and now time every set — shown as seconds per 500 m, with a new "Ergo" chart in your progress card.
• Stations and carries are logged in meters, Air Bike and MetCon X SkiErg in calories.
• No more kilograms on push-ups, no more reps on a plank.
• Weights you set by hand are no longer overwritten.

ANALYSIS
• Partial simulations no longer skew paces, percentiles or personal bests. A single toggle excludes them or extrapolates them properly — half races scale with your own drop-off instead of simply doubling.
• Training load: station weighting, double counting and the hybrid balance are fixed.
• 28 charts now respond to tap and scrub, showing date and values.
• The goal time projection blends races and training instead of reading only your last race.
• New: the app flags real improvements on stations and run pace — measured against a baseline, not against one good day.
• Simulations can now correct the race plans they were run to test.

RACES
• ATHX 2027 with its new Strength, Endurance and MetCon workout; both seasons stay plannable.
• Simulations with division selection and preview, sendable straight to the Watch.
• Race comparison fixed: station times from live-tracked races, heart rate comparison, correct mapping when segments were skipped.
• Categories now resolve correctly everywhere — Pro, Doubles and Teams no longer fall back to the default division.

APPLE WATCH
• "Start on Apple Watch" now reliably starts the workout you sent — no empty screen, no unrelated session.
• If a workout is already running, you get asked instead of silently swapped.
• Haptic strength and length are adjustable, and the haptics switch finally applies during training too.
• Double tap works on every training screen; the crown reliably sets weight, level and target duration.
• Timed exercises use the same layout as everything else, plus a new summary with heart rate, rest and tonnage.
• The live view on iPhone now receives every set with its logged values.

PLAN & EVERYDAY
• Four fixed tabs with a central START button.
• Missed sessions are marked; the week view can be paged back and forward.
• Link Health workouts after the fact — including on days with no planned session, and more than once per day.
• App language can be selected in Settings.

DESIGN & STABILITY
• 220 custom icons for stations, exercises, muscle groups and race formats.
• Consistent typography and spacing, press feedback and haptics on iPhone and Watch, background-free exercise images.
• Fixed crashes when starting a run session and when opening finished workouts.
• Workouts reliably reach Apple Health; Strava uploads are retried automatically.
• Much less heat and stutter during live tracking.
