This guy is a musician who took years making this app. He has thought about every detail and the asking price is minimal for what it does. It works beautifully with a Launchpad and brings the best out of the device. If Jim adds more functionality and updates then so be it. Woohoo. If not it is still a great example of how lucky we are to live in a time where such a great developer can create something so good for a relatively small amount. And it looks great, just like Poison and Pure Acid. Buy it. Learn it. Make music. Have fun. Edit - One month in and it gets better the more I learn. I have not bought another app since. It is brilliant. And it is not just for EDM style loops. Its like having something like Ableton on an iPad and coupled with the Novation X pad makes it a very practical solution for live use. Its so full of features, the learning curve is initially steep but there are some excellent tutorials on You-Tube. Once you get used to it its very intuitive and easy to use. If you are into making electronic music I would buy this app without hesitation. Others have commented that to get the best from the app then you have to buy Jim Audio’s other products like Acid drums. This is not entirely true as you can use samples, soundfonts and external AU3 synths but I bought them anyway as they are very good and a fraction of the price of hardware synths and drum machines. I also use this app in combination with Loopy Pro and it works flawlessly. I would recommend using a Bluetooth mouse as it makes navigation much easier than using fingers. In summary a mind-blowingly great app and if I didn’t already own an iPad, I would go out and buy one just to use this. I was actually considering buying hardware boxes, but then GR2 came on the scene. It’s really beyond my wildest dreams. Blowing every other music making app away. I knew it was going to be good because all his apps have that magic mojo sparkle. There’s not enough space or time to go into everything GR2 can do…and now the latest update! Everything is documented. Just go and read all this little monster can do. I will admit it took me about a month or two to get used to it. But I’m a hobbyist with a full time job and family. So please give yourself some time to learn it and you won’t be disappointed . ### 5/5 — Wonderful app but… *2025-07-18* I’m an aspiring composer/producer who is finding this app to be a game-changer. More immediate and accessible than a full DAW. Best groove box type of app I’ve tried. Edit: Bumping this to 5 stars, as the developer provided an alternative support channel in addition to Facebook (see below), which was my only complaint. The developer also acknowledged my minor bug report. **Developer response:** Thanks for this report, it will be fixed in the upcoming update! Merci ### 4/5 — Need to improve the sequencer *2025-05-03* This app is great for getting a song going. The addition of AUv3 is awesome. Lots to like. BUT- the sequencer is not fun to use. Even step sequencing drums is a bummer. Should be able to press a keyboard note and enter it into the step sequencer. Parameter locks per step would be great too. I am rather looking forward to all the interesting stuff that is bound to be forthcoming! For the time being, the only thing I really miss are ready-to-use samples and wavetables, just like in the predecessor. And if you can think of a way to bring this app to the iPhone, I would be in heaven... I’ve been using IOS apps for music nearly ten years now. I don’t usually feel compelled to write a review because I’m not usually that impressed. But this app is really really great. The groove box mentality is too much fun and easy to get building tracks on the fly. The features have been really well thought out and everything I would want is there - probability triggers, conditional triggers, step sequencing, automation, AU integration, resampling. Honestly it’s incredibly fun and I will be using it for years to come. I hope this app has a long life and I would be happy with it as is especially for the price - even if the dev doesn’t add any more features. Audio tracks would be nice but not a deal breaker for me. This is just a beautifully designed app - a must for anyone even curious about making music on their iPad **** Another brilliant app from this developer, one that pushes the original groovebox concept into full DAW territory. I absolutely love the ability to record a few clips, launch them in different combinations, and save that performance onto a song timeline for further tweaking.
