I love the idea, but the stories are presented with the left bias articles first. There does not appear to be a way to change this setting. As a consequence, the default doesn’t look all that different from other left leaning sources without a lot of swiping. Allowing users to choose the bias that is presented as the default or simply defaulting to the middle would better align with the mission of the app. ### 2/5 — Frustrating as hell the moment you want to read source article *2026-08-24, version 4.32.0* If the point is to restore credibility to the news by comparing coverage across political views it delivers (for the most part). But credibility rises and falls on the readers ability to simply visit a source to verify it or research deeper… and her GroundNews fails miserably. Try using the mobile app to read a GroundNews article and then navigate to an individual article *outside* the app. This journey is an exercise and frustration. GroundNews wants your data, so they keep you landlocked. They would rather keep you and your data than let you travel freely and the verify sources with ease. ### 3/5 — iOS 26.5.2 *2026-08-21, version 4.32.0* Frequently, when I try to open the app, it will not load past the splash screen. However there isn’t a button to unsubscribe through the app nor on their website. To me that completely ruined the experience. It does not fact check anything. It does not assess whether information is purposefully being withheld. You already know which outlets skew which way. This app makes news into sports teams and allows 2+2=5 to be presented as a “blindspot”. Disappointed I allowed myself to be suckered into paying for this at all, wish I could get a refund. ### 2/5 — AI summaries are often very misleading or just wrong *2026-08-16, version 4.31.0* A news site should never rely on AI to summarize stories, its journalistic malpractice. Just today an article summary from Ground News claimed that only 1,250 Palestinians have been killed since the Oct 7 attacks when the widely accepted estimates exceed 70,000+. This is unacceptable. These types of inaccuracies undermined any credibility their largely AI powered product provides. If you have to link to sources and articles behind a paywall, that should be clearly noted so I don’t waste my time. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Hidden pay wall *2026-08-26, version 4.32.0* Yet another app they get you to download it. create an account go through 20 screens and then they hit you with the subscription. ### 1/5 — DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!!!! *2026-08-24, version 4.32.0* I genuinely loved the idea of this, but after accessing the free trial I realized it truly wasn’t worth the money. I cancelled my subscription BEFORE the free trial ended, yet they’re still trying to pull $42 off of my card. I keep my money in a separate account and only move what I need, so I’m now getting “card declined” messages on a daily basis. Since the app runs their subscription through the App Store, I’m now soft banned and can’t update any of my apps because I refuse to pay for a subscription I already cancelled. Previously sent me to news article it declared “center”. First paragraph whined about “election lies”, second about “election deniers”. In an effort to avoid bias they dig their heels into bias by using Ad Fontes’ bias chart which is wildly biased against the left putting Midas Touch as less truthful than Fox News which is objectively false. There’s no way Ground can be unbiased when aggregating from such biased sources. ### 1/5 — Psychological operation *2026-08-20, version 4.32.0* Do not trust their non-bias news, it’s very biased. Just because they market as known by doesn’t mean they’re not. They consider Fox News more reliable than many other more reliable outlets. ### 1/5 — Naive aggregator/Hard to quit *2026-08-17, version 4.32.0* Nice to have an app that scrapes news sites globally, but the analysis is either shallow or lacking. The email summaries are particularly poor, relying on shallow regional stereotypes like “East Coast Elite” and “West Coast Innovator.” Basically, you get dumber from reading their work. I also made the mistake of subscribing via their website, which is harder to cancel than a scammer or porn site. They do not care about blind users. If this company gets big enough to pass the ADA minimum, then I will see them in court. I’ve grown to trust them to offer access to a broad spectrum of news stories and outlets. I love the fact that they source from worldwide media, and that their app and website are easy to navigate and understand. It’s clear that the so-called Left and Right are being fed news catered to their biases, but at Ground News I can cut through that noise to learn what each side is hearing, and hopefully be better placed to offer both sides when talking with my friends or strangers. ### 5/5 — Excellent news source! *2026-08-23, version 4.32.0* I love being able to review the headlines and see how things are being reported from both sides of the spectrum. My emotional response to the world has changed in ONE week. I traveled from Straight Arrow News which was starting to bend left. I think AI integration with news is helpful because it gives barebones facts. One cool addition would be text to speech so I can read and listen at once to articles. But. Couldn’t praise this app enough.
