It really helped with getting my knowledge test endorsement (via the app). I used it for ground school and my locaL CFI could answer questions as they came up weekly when I was flying Before solo. I ended up missing the following questions on my written: pa.i.ak2, pa.i.i.e.k1 pa.i.f.k2e, pa.ii.d.k1, pa.bi.c.kw, pa.vii.bk2, pa.xi.a.k1. The only improvements I could ask for overall would be a a section strictly on aircraft logbooks , engine logbooks, and AD addressing section . My DPE hit airworthiness of aircraft hard with log books as well. I felt under prepared, but was able to come back. The flight portion was not problematic at all and I think the DPE seemed happy with my performance. (I passed first time so he wasn’t “unhappy” lol) ### 5/5 — Excellent!! *2025-12-19, version 6.2.3* I got a great score on my FAA written exam and this app was a huge help! The practice test are very accurate the entire layout of the app is fantastic and I’m still using it to stay sharp and continue studying. You can pick and choose what wear and when to study ### 3/5 — Great Content, frustrating limitations. *2025-11-26, version 6.2.2* This app has been a very useful tool throughout my aviation journey. The information it provides is clearly created with care and grounded in solid research. There are dozens of helpful videos and references to the kinds of documents you’ll use throughout your training, and overall the content is excellent. What frustrates me, however, are the limitations. First, I’ve noticed syncing issues between my iPhone and iPad, which makes it difficult to study unless I’m in a situation where using the iPad makes sense. Many times I’d prefer to use my iPhone, but I can’t get it to sync my progress from the iPad. Another limitation is the lack of a desktop version. When I’m at home on my computer and would prefer to review material there, it simply isn’t an option. I also wish the flashcard and spaced-repetition system were more robust—specifically, the ability to review all content across the app, not just material tied to a particular section or module. Finally, I wish there were more interactive opportunities to be tested on using sectionals. As a new student pilot, understanding and applying chart information—even within ForeFlight—has been one of my biggest challenges. Although some quiz questions touch on this, they feel very surface-level. I’d ultimately like to see more depth and more content in this area. ### 5/5 — Money well Spent! *2025-11-22, version 6.2.2* I had King School before this, for IFR ground. It was brutal! I was bored out of my mind. Some video lessons, I would play it at 1.5x speed. This is not that. This is entertaining (it’s like watching another YouTube video), and I find that I retain the knowledge a lot better. It is definitely worth the cost (actually a really good deal for the amount of detail and time put into it). And I love that he made it free for CFIs. Such an awesome tool to be able to take advantage of especially when just starting to instruct. Also the questions are old and a lot of time do not match the supplement, this app also has errors with sync between iPad and iPhone. ### 5/5 — Takeoff Briefing *2025-08-20, version 6.0.41* Love what you’ve provided. May I offer my version of the TO brief? All of what you’ve said (ID the runway, windsock, performance distances) From brake release to rotation I will reject for anything, throttle idle, stop the airplane, clear the runway if able, run any appropriate checklist. Notify the tower. From rotation to the safe altitude (CAPS) for the airplane I’m flying with an engine failure I will pitch to the best glide picture and land more or less straight ahead. I will land wings level on speed. With any other problem (smoke, alternator failure, etc) I will fly a normal pattern to the runway I just departed. Above the safe altitude with an engine failure I’ll make the best decision. (We brief CAPS options and a cross runway return) (We practice the impossible turn, so in the right conditions it is an option) It’s a little more, but it gets us up to a safe altitude for starters. ### 5/5 — Best Online ground school *2025-08-18, version 6.0.40* TFP is the best ground school I have come across. It’s incredibly in depth, and the way the content is presented makes it very digestible. Not to mention how convenient it is that you can download the app on your phone and study on the go! It was not worth it so I bought The Finer Points, and love it. After I got TFP I got into a scholarship program with a 141 school and still use TFP to understand the concepts. TFP breaks things down into an easier to digest format and introduces everything in multiple different formats which is incredibly helpful. I’m fortunate to fly and learn with Jason. I know exactly what to expect and get the exact same quality experience in the air as in the App. ### 5/5 — Checkride passed thanks to The Finer Points! *2025-06-08, version 6.0.38* I started my private pilot training with the intent to learn as much as I can on my own and not pay out the nose for an expensive ground school course in person. The Finer Points was highly recommended, so I subscribed. The ability to download lessons to my iPad so I can review them on the train ride to and from work was great for understanding the foundations of flight and provided me a way to keep my mind in the sky while juggling a fill time job. I ultimately got access to a ground school training app through my flight school, but it didn't go into as much detail as TFP did or connect it back to the ACS (which I later found SO helpful during checkride prep). Another feature I enjoyed was that the lessons would require a "brush up" from time to time to keep me fresh. I felt prepared for my written exam, as well as my oral thanks to the mock testing feature. That alone was a big help for the oral, to speak out everything I know and practice being concise instead of talking myself into a hole. It's hard to get mock oral prep without using up a CFI's time for a couple of hours (read "expensive"), so I liked that I could do it when I had the time and over and over again to hone in on problem areas. I'm stoked to get started on the instrument side of the course, and look forward to all the nuances and experience Jason and the team have to share as I continue my journey towards being a CFI-- once I get there I will be sure to recommend it to all of my future students! Understand that this app is only a map! A map is useless if you do not know where you are going. If you are going to use this app as your sole knowledge base, you are going to be disappointed. This app will work well for you if you are using it as a guide - map - on your study journey. It is not built to be your sole reference material. That being said, if you know the level you are on - prepping for your written, practicing your skills - and use this app to point you in the right direction, then you will be most happy for your subscription. If you are not sure where you are at in your studies, you will regret your subscription. As for me, I love this app. I learn better when i am able to have the basics explained to me as you’d explain Nuclear Fusion to a child. And the team at TFP helped in that regard. And not only did they help me through my studying Aviation (a new language i need to be proficient on), they also wrote me an endorsement to take my Instrument Rating FAA Knowledge Test. In so many words, all I am saying is, I love this app and will recommend it to anyone who knows where they are going and all they need is a map to point them towards their destination. ### 5/5 — Quick value *2025-05-20, version 6.0.36* I had already purchased another IFR course and I was reluctant to spend more money. I tried your course for 2 days and got immediate value. I was happy to pay the annual fee, and I have continued to be impressed. I love the little quizzes at the end of each section. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Almost no videos, do not rely for test *2025-10-12, version 6.2.1* I’m a big fan of Jason’s videos and all the great content he puts out on YouTube. However, I was extremely disappointed with this course. The course is mostly written and has almost no videos, which is why I would imagine most people would buy a course from a YouTuber. The app is great, works great on my iPad, however, the content is mostly text and asks you to read the PHAK. Additionally, the very little videos it does have, are very informal, don’t really use any visuals and at times are borderline unprofessional with Jason just talking from his RV while chewing gum. I’ve also done Kings, and I can say that’s a proper ground school. It’s exhaustive, every single section has videos, and felt very confident to take a test after taking Kings. Just wish Kings had a modern app like Ground School. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed with this app, specially for being one (if not) the most expensive ground school that also uses a subscription model. DO NOT rely on this app to pass your test. You will fail. ### 1/5 — Frustrating and boring *2025-08-18, version 6.0.40* This app is not going to teach you what you need to know for the written test. It has a very small amount of videos and the rest is just going through the FAA question bank. It’s extremely difficult to read the charts, even on an iPad Pro. Customer support will just tell you to figure it out yourself when you don’t understand how to answer a question. It’s way overpriced for just the question bank and the faa docs (that you can get for free from the faa). ### 1/5 — Don’t Download *2025-02-07* $500 a year is a robbery, cant even do any lessons without paying aswell ### 1/5 — cost $50 to even take practice tests. *2024-07-09, version 6.0.13* useless app don’t install unless you have $50 to give up. ### 1/5 — Not For Pilots In Training!! *2023-09-05* Currently learning as a student pilot and decided to pay for this app in full, as well as one other popular flight school app. This guy doing the lessons is speaking to existing pilots, and way over the student pilots head!! He seems so careless, chewing gum and just vlogging with a cell phone. It’s obvious he copied another popular flight school and is ripping them off. Feels very cheaply done, and again constantly assumes you already know a lot about flying. I’d never recommend this to anyone trying to learn to fly. I could only see this being beneficial to existing pilots needing to brush up on their knowledge, but there are way better options out there!! Very unhappy with this purchase and will always tell others to strongly avoid!! We appreciate you checking out the app. ### 1/5 — Misleading! *2023-06-10, version 5.0.6* Like most other apps, clean to be free, this one is also claiming to be free at the first page, but the conditions are hidden on the following pages or hidden sections. Apple makes a lot of money from these apps! I am not so upset with the vendor so much, but Apple, who is in complete control here not doing its job to prevent this kind of waste of time for its clients. Even after installing you don’t see three days free option until you start tinkering with the app, which I didn’t go that far as I was upset for hitting another misleading app. This is as expensive as the real ground school. Why in the world should I use this app instead of ongoing into a classroom which gives me the option to repeat it if I fail the exam for out, I don’t even know if the app is good and my rating is for the misleading information to get people to install which may be a loss of time for some. Also, this review window doesn’t work unless you thinker . The typing panel doesn’t come up automatically when you try to type in to the boxes. Apple should spend more time finding out about these problems, then collecting huge amounts of money from the vendors. ### 1/5 — Get MzeroA *2023-04-23, version 4.7.10* DO NOT GET THIS!!! Save your time and money and get MzeroA ground school! I was just starting my PPL and didn’t know where to go for ground school so I subscribed to this. His first few lessons had nice graphics that depicted what I felt like helped me understand and learn the material. Then he stopped using graphics and visual aides and would hold his IPhone up while walking around his plane or sittting in his trailer talking about weather or regulations (etc) instead of incorporating imagery or visual aids to help with learning. Luckily my friend started his PPl and provided me with his MzeroA logon and I have been using that to help with my group school! Definitely worth checking out other options. ### 2/5 — Nice App,but to expensive!!! *2024-09-19, version 6.0.18* . ### 2/5 — I like Jason, app doesn’t hold up to competition *2023-03-03, version 4.7.7* Scenarios, flight videos, and oral test prep are all excellent. I would pay a smaller subscription for these alone if they continue to have content added. Ground section leaves much to be desired when compared to King which I also used. Many sections are just links to the PHAK and AFM with a summary. No videos or, memory aids, or value added to the FAA material. Some of the answers provided to the study questions are just flat out wrong. Cool concept, nice user interface, but the competition is both more complete and cheaper. ### 3/5 — ok app *2026-06-02, version 6.5.6* While the app works okay, it’s not as polished as some others. I went through a couple of the trainings and worked through some of the questions and study guide that are good but not the best I have seen. I have been listening to the podcast which is what led me to the app but I think the pricing is quite high for what it is- perhaps if it were a one time charge for lifetime at $300ish but yearly is just too much. I successfully completed my PPL checkride yesterday! As I had expected going in, I found the oral portion a lot less stressful than the flying part. Not that the flying was BAD, but your app left me very prepared. The DPE acknowledged as much, admitting he “dug pretty deep” on the oral to find my limits.
