Overall sentiment: neutral **Pros** - 🚀 Excellent group communication - 👍 Easy to use - 🚀 Fast and responsive - 🚀 Reliable - 👍 Versatile for various use cases **Cons** - 🐛 Crashes and freezes - 🐛 Syncing and loading issues - 🐛 Notification problems - 🐛 Bugs with media uploads - 🐛 Laggy performance **Commonly reported bugs** - Inability to log in or account issues - Problems with adding/removing group members - Disappearing messages and chat history - Compatibility issues with newer iOS versions **Most requested features** - Ability to delete/edit messages - Announcement mode for admins - Pinned messages - Improved group management features - Better cross-device/platform sync ## Newest reviews (18 of 1,108) ### 3/5 — awesome in theory and mostly good actually, but glitchy *2026-08-26* groupme is usually my preferred group messaging app. I like the features it offers that some other apps might not have. there are a couple smaller things that I think would be nice, like seeing the “pending” responses on polls like you do on events, an option for people to rsvp to an event without joining the group, or being able to add more options to polls and more characters to event descriptions, but the actual ISSUE with the app is that it’s just so glitchy all the time. seems like there’s always some kinda of issue, messages not showing up has been a here and there issue in my experience for years, not as much lately but I just found out it happens to someone else in the chat and even just now there was something weird with a message I sent so I check the website and see it sent twice even though only the one without reactions is showing in my app. I’ll try reloading and restarting the app and it makes no difference. the biggest thing lately has been the albums. every time an album gets involved, the glitchiness magnifies by so much. when the albums first started I thought it was just because my app wasn’t up to date yet and since then I keep it up to date (also thinking eventually one of these new updates would fix it) and it’s still so glitchy eta : 1. the albums feature in the app is so glitchy that it’s actually infuriating at times and 2. I get why it does it, but I really wish it didn’t automatically count the event host as an rsvp especially lately as the app and site have both been glitching to set your rsvp to yes after you remove it (I didn’t used to have this problem, so not sure why it’s happening now) ### 2/5 — Annoying *2026-08-22, version 16.05* I didn’t mess with the app for a long time because it’s the summer and my groups from school were not using it at the time. Well the app has logged me out. Because I mistakenly typed in my email wrong when I first got the app (would not let me change it) so when I try to reset my password I can’t get the email. It also won’t send me a text message instead. So now I can’t log in to my account and have lost all the groups I joined and will have to rejoin them. However the app won’t even let me make a new account with my Apple ID, Microsoft, and Google. Other than this mess the app is pretty good. 😩 ### 4/5 — be carful..... *2026-08-22, version 16.05* i was on this app for my school team and realized others from different gc's i was in could privately message me. i wanted to troll- god forbid -and some random guys kept sending me their dih pic ( which i did not ask for) but anyways gucci gang be carful who's texting you and asking personal questions about anything related to your school, what you look like, your age, etc ### 2/5 — No longer receiving notifications *2026-08-21, version 16.05* I no longer receive any notifications even though my settings are correctly set to receive them. Prior to this, I had a couple of groups that received notifications and a couple that didn’t. Our school uses this app throughout the day which makes this a significant problem. ### 2/5 — I hate this so much *2026-08-21, version 16.05* Although its convenient for college campuses especially for dorms and clubs it’s so infuriating to deal with!! 1. Last semester group me wouldn’t even allow me to join groups for classes or study groups when I was given the link to join directly ! Someone had to manually add me so I could communicate with them. 2: when I tried to log into the app with my Microsoft account it wouldn’t let me, so then I used my phone number and it still didn’t work! Then I changed my password multiple times but somehow my phone number or school email is somehow “wrong”. And it’s fustrating because universities rely so heavily on this app. Hopefully this app will improve, or another app will become the primary use for communications, it should not be this difficult to log into an account I never logged out of! I’m only using it cause my clubs and dorms require it to keep up with communication . ### 3/5 — Log in issue *2026-08-19, version 16.01* It’s just stuck on the pin verified. But it says logging in. But I used it before and it doesn’t work ### 1/5 — No longer sends SMS text messages *2026-08-18, version 16.01* As of 8/17/26, GroupMe dropped SMS support, so messages posted to a group no longer will go out as texts. Users HAVE to use the app. This messaging was the single biggest reason to use GroupMe. In our club not everyone wants to install or use another app. We could use GM to send messages and manage our group member list, but members did not have to use the app to receive the messages. With this feature gone there isn’t any real point to GroupMe, might as well just use WhatsApp like most of the world. ### 1/5 — Where are my text messages *2026-08-18, version 16.01* I can no longer send a message via sms and it’ll be In GroupMe. Extremely frustrating working around a system that is repetitive when trying to look for help which leads to no solution that is also dependent on faqs ### 4/5 — Improve or remove voice messaging *2026-08-15, version 16.01* We use GroupMe for our high school sports team. Since you added the voice feature the kids like to use it to be funny. However, the voice quality is SO poor that you can’t even understand what anyone is saying. My recommendation is to improve the quality or remove it entirely as it’s not useful to the point of being annoying lol ### 1/5 — Won’t log in *2026-08-14, version 16.01* App won’t long me in after verifying pin. Screen just continues to buffer. Can only access Group me through web browser. And there is no one to talk to that can fix my issue ### 4/5 — Like it except… *2026-08-14, version 16.01* Our group has benefited from this app for a few years now, and it has been excellent for our purposes. Today,however, a group appeared which I hadn’t signed up for and have been unable to leave. From the messages posted there most of the others are having the same problem. Hopefully you are working on an upgrade that will solve this security issue. ### 2/5 — So many bots *2026-08-14, version 16.01* I’m a college student managing a club of around 100 people. Our group chat has around 230 people, at least 100 of which are bots. The bots post scam sales which entice people into giving away card information. It’s gotten so bad we’ve had to create a bot to remove the bots, and around 15 are banned each day. But every time new bots come to replace the ones that leave. When we try to make a new group chat and painstakingly ask every person in the club to join the bots still show up. We can’t have it by request, because we can’t distinguish the bots from people who want to join. GroupMe lacks basic safeguards I would expect from an app widely used by minors. Parents can’t limit kids to approved groups or contacts, prevent private communication outside those groups, or meaningfully supervise their account. A private school, church, team, or activity group does not mean your child’s GroupMe access is contained there. There are content concerns, too. GroupMe includes in-app searching for online images, GIFs, and videos. Another parent told me her son’s first exposure to explicit content occurred through GroupMe on an Android despite parental safeguards on his phone. She hadn’t realized what he could access from within the app. Even major social-media platforms now offer teen accounts and parental supervision. It’s extremely concerning that Microsoft offers so few protections for minors on an app so commonly used by youth organizations. Parents should understand the broader access they’re allowing before putting GroupMe on a child’s device.
