## Newest reviews (5 of 25)

### 3/5 — Gets the job done but

*2022-11-14, version 1.2*

The overall usability of the app is archaic, due to most components not fitting on screen correctly on moderen hardware.

### 2/5 — Needs a back button

*2022-02-16, version 1.2*

I like having better control of notifications instead of having to check email but navigation is a pain without a back button.

Edit:
Has been out for months now. Still no back button any link from an email or browser has to be clicked twice. It will take you to your home feed on the app so you have to go back to the source and click it again. If you get a notification from the app it opens the app, the notification disappears and then you have to find the topic on your own. I’m about to delete the app and stick with using a browser. And I’m deducting another star.

### 2/5 — No better than the website

*2021-10-22, version 1.0*

It is basically just displaying the website. The file upload feature on the website doesn’t work on an iPad and this is no different in this app.

### 3/5 — No “back” button?

*2021-10-01, version 1.0*

I have to agree with OnlyDavid. Not having a back button has me returning to the website to navigate Groups.io. I’m guessing (hoping) Mark has this in the mix on the next upgrade.

### 2/5 — Just a webpage as an app 😢

*2021-09-27, version 1.0*

One of the great things about building an app is that you can go fast beyond the standard webpage.

It can be more interactive. You can rearrange the layout. Change the way the editor works to make it more like a word processor. You can do things that you never dreamed before.

I understand this is a website, but the app is nothing but the website. Even worse, it’s the website without the back button or the ability to pull up two instances of the website.

I don’t know why Groups.io bothered with the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Pretty unusable

*2025-09-26, version 3.0*

The app is painfully slow. It takes an age to load anything, icons show as squares, trying to access message threads is hit and miss.

### 1/5 — How is this so bad?

*2025-02-10, version 3.0*

That’s is why is this so bad. The app just failed to work and the group io has a terrible layout and is hard to navigate.

### 1/5 — Unwieldy and frustrating

*2024-06-26, version 2.0*

The app performs poorly- frequently closing unexpectedly. The navigation is unwieldy and it’s hard to switch between different discussions without backing out to the main screen, losing your place in the process. Final straw is having to login each and every time to access. Uninstalled.

### 1/5 — Handy and inconvenient at the same time

*2022-11-27, version 1.2*

While this app is handy to be able to view Groups on my mobile device, it absolutely fails at accessing linked content. Click on any image or attachment and while it opens, there’s no way to close but to forcefully kill the app. If the developer could fix this one issue they’d turn their ratings from 1 to 5 almost instantly.

It would be nice if the developer could give this a bit of attention - especially when they are trying to collect fees from groups using the enhanced services like files and DB.

### 1/5 — Not reliable

*2022-10-15, version 1.2*

We often find issues with links to files held within Groups.io’s database.

### 1/5 — No “Back” button?

*2021-11-11, version 1.0*

This lack of a very elemental feature makes the app useless for me.

### 1/5 — Website is easier

*2021-09-30, version 1.0*

The app is just bringing the website to an app. Many times I have to close it and start back up because there is no way to go back. Just use the website.

### 2/5 — No more than the website, and actually a bit less

*2025-12-02, version 3.0*

I had hoped the previous negative reviews were the typical RTFM teacup tempests, or just old issues that have been fixed, but now that I’ve tried the app I agree. It appears to be nothing more than a dumbed-down interface to the exact same website you could access in Safari. And, yes, part of that dumbing down involved removing the ability to go back to the previous page. I gave it two stars because it does actually do what it is supposed to, but it doesn’t do it well. I will be deleting the so-called app.

### 2/5 — Yes, but why?

*2025-01-27, version 3.0*

I just don't get it. Pin groups.io to your home screen as a web app for exactly the same experience. This app is merely a web wrapper, and for members seems to offer essentially nothing. Having an app only makes sense if you're going native. Do that, and we can discuss this again.

### 2/5 — Nav is horrible

*2022-07-17, version 1.2*

Nav seems like it should be fundamental in the app. I have to force quit to get back to the post. easier to read via browser than via this apps. please fix it

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works fine for Me

*2025-10-21, version 3.0*

I have quite a few groups, I moderate a few groups that are over 500 people each, this app helps me find archives and reply and moderate while on the go. Works just fine for me!

### 5/5 — I dig it

*2025-01-04, version 3.0*

It’s nice to have a tool for groups that isn’t Facebook or something else that is filled with ads, and a privacy nightmare.

Groups.io is highly configurable and does a great job for our little nonprofit in housing files, facilitating communication, and having a shared event calendar.

Happy camper here. Keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — Outstanding app for an even better group email service

*2024-04-26, version 2.0*

I run the email for my small, social cricket club and use Groups.io for that purpose. Also as a photographer who is part of the AOP I get daily updates from our forum. The service is quite superb and free for small entities like my cricket club. WhatsApp is fine (and also used) but sometimes you want to give long emails (eg tour details) Can’t recommend highly enough Go for it!

### 5/5 — Superb web and app!

*2024-04-26*

Mark has done a great job streamlining the two versions and I’d recommend it to all average users of low key social media for clubs and orgs needing close contact with members and supporters.
Over a decade on line!

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2022-07-23, version 1.2*

I like to use the app as I have all the emails from my group nicely sorted by hashtags and I find the overview layout really good. I prefer a mobile app to just using the browser as I find the notification works better.
The file view and download etc works well linking to the browser. I love the app. I don’t miss messages anymore from my group, can see new files and I gut away in the app.

### 5/5 — Good to have app

*2022-02-19, version 1.2*

Saving website to homescreen also works very well. Looks and feels like an app with an icon. Groups.io is a good alternative to many intrusive social media companies. Not tracking and no ads. We are using instead of nextdoor.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2024-12-23, version 3.0*

I wish I could get group.io on my Apple Watch

### 4/5 — App is like your using the sight!

*2024-02-21, version 2.0*

Please make Groups.io like A app with tabs, A profile tab yes, I can't find my profile, And I'm sick of it. Good app.

### 4/5 — Freeze left pane please

*2021-12-07*

When reading long messages list …. Need to scroll all way up each time to have access to control menu buttons on the left. Please, keep the left menu buttons area fixed… no scrolling.

### 3/5 — Unusable

*2024-02-15, version 2.0*

Holy cow is this full of bugs. It's basically unusable.

If you select something and try to overtype it, it jumps your cursor elsewhere. If you try to select something to BOLD it, it doesn't work correctly. If you try to copy text it doesn't work correctly. I had to uninsall it.
