The Green Belt App is a multimedia tool that provides guidance and support to people along the entire former inner-German border. The outdoor application serves as both a navigation aid and an educational tool.

Covering a distance of 1,393 kilometres – from Prex on the Czech border to Priwall on the Baltic Sea – it follows existing hiking trails and tells the story of German division, its impact on people and the development of the border region into Germany's largest contiguous natural biotope at over 850 stations.

The app is based on the successful and established berlinHistory app, which was developed by the non-profit association berlinHistory e.V. under a white label licence to make historical traces visible in a contemporary digital application.

Since September 2022, berlinHistory e.V. has been working with various cooperation partners – including the Thuringia Nature Conservation Foundation, the Saxon State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship, BUND and many other actors – on the comprehensive recording of places, landscapes and stories on both sides of the former demarcation line. To date, numerous locations have been visited, photographically documented and processed with texts and geodata.

Als Grenz-Radwanderin und -Wanderin bin ich begeistert, dass es hier nun endlich eine App für die gesamte ehemalige innerdeutsche Grenze gibt. Die App „Grünes Band“ arbeitet mit Karten, Listen und Themenseiten und zeigt dir Grenzrelikte, Kunst und Naturbesonderheiten auf deiner Strecke. 
Die App ist sehr benutzer*innenfreundlich, intuitiv bedienbar und die Texte und Erklärungen sind leicht verständlich. Spezielle Features für „Kenner“ des Grünen Bandes gibt es aber auch.
Der eine oder andere noch fehlende Punkt am Wegesrand kann in der App gemeldet werden. Die Entwickler antworten dann sehr schnell und liefern gern nach. So geht Citizen Science!
Ich kann die App allen empfehlen, die Interesse am Grünen Band haben oder auf den Deutsch-Deutschen (Rad-)Wanderwegen unterwegs sind. Eine tolle App für Tourenplanung, Recherche und Information!

Sehr, sehr viele Infos zu vielen Themen der ehemaligen innerdeutschen Grenze. Schade, dass diese App erst jetzt erschienen ist. Bei meinen Wanderungen entlang des Grünen Bandes mit Freunden in den letzten Jahren hätte die App uns sicherlich sehr gute Dienste geleistet. Ganz toll wäre es, wenn sie noch dahingehend erweitert würde, dass man z.B. die Hauptroute als GPX-Datei exportieren könnte (wahlweise als Ganzes oder nur in Teilen), so dass man diese Route dann in eine Wander-App (Komoot oder andere) importieren könnte. Oder aber die App selbst würde um die Navigationsmöglichkeit erweitert. Leider ist in der Örtlichkeit das Grüne Band so gut wie garnicht markiert. Sehr Schade!
Jedenfalls ein ganz, ganz großer Dank an die Entwickler für diese App. Einfach toll.
