## What is GTK?

Welcome to the Ukulele Player's Toolkit.  

When I originally built the Guitar Player's Toolkit, they were tools that I wanted to use, and still continue to use. A friend suggested that ukulele players might want the same, and so I decided to invest the time in building them. It provides everything from theory, tuning, chord composition, and tempo as well as some good practice utilities.

No ads, no subscriptions, and no internet required.

CHORD TOOLS

• Chord Master — Over 4200 chord voicings using multiple tuning approaches (including Baritone). Browse by key, build chords note-by-note, or place fingers on an interactive fretboard to discover what you're playing. Hear every chord played in whole, or arpeggiated.
• Chord Library — Search 100+ chord types with strict or fuzzy matching. Filter by key, browse diatonic and borrowed chords, save favourites. View diagrams showing finger positions, intervals, or note names.
• Custom Chords — Create and name your own chords on an interactive grid. Auto-detect the chord name, play it back, and export/import to share with others.
• Transpose — Move the chords from a song to any key in seconds, with capo-aware transposition.

THEORY TOOLS

• Scales — 80+ scales across 14 categories: major, minor, modes, pentatonic, blues, jazz, Arabic, Indian ragas, Japanese, Chinese, and more. Interactive fretboard shows colour-coded positions with diatonic chord analysis. Tuning-aware for Standard, Low G, D Tuning, and Baritone.
• Circle of Fifths — Tap any key to explore its modes, diatonic chords, and Roman numeral analysis. Includes key signature staff and enharmonic equivalents.
• Position Finder — Pick a fret and pick your key. Instantly see which scale modes fit there. Covers major, minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and chord tone patterns.
• Mode Converter — See exactly how any mode transforms into another — note by note, semitone by semitone.

PRACTICE TOOLS

• Note Practice — Drill fretboard note names at your own pace. Set tempo (5–120 BPM), choose strings and notes, display as text or fretboard diagram, and hear each note played. Includes a timed challenge mode.
• Metronome — 40–240 BPM with tap tempo, configurable time signatures, first-beat accent, and four click sounds (Woodblock, Click, Cowbell, Bell).
• Chromatic Tuner — Real-time pitch detection with ±1 cent accuracy, visual needle gauge, colour-coded feedback, and Hz display. Covers the full ukulele range (C3–C6).

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-01

• A new Sharing tab in the Scales tool lets you layer up to 4 scales on a single 18-fret fretboard. Each scale is assigned a colour (blue, green, orange, or purple); where two scales share a fret position the dot splits into colour-coded pie slices. Use the eye toggle to show or hide individual scales, and trash to remove them. Your list is saved between sessions.
• Collapsible Diatonic Chords - diatonic chord boxes in the Scales tab are now shown under a collapsible toggle. 
• Dorian, Phrygian, and Locrian now display their correct descriptions; previously all three showed "Major scale".
• Arpeggio playback fix - chords in the Chord Library could go silent on some strings when arpeggiated repeatedly. Notes now always play correctly.
• D Tuning chord library - chords in the Chord Library now sound and highlight consistently in D Tuning, matching their labels; previously some notes could appear silent.
• Baritone muted-string display fix - baritone chord diagrams with a muted string now correctly show a red X marker; previously some showed a blank marker instead.
• D Tuning label fix - the tuning is now correctly labelled "D Tuning (ADF#B)" throughout the app.

• Chord search fix - searching for a chord using an ASCII sharp or flat (e.g. "C#") now correctly finds chords whose names were saved with the equivalent Unicode symbol, and vice versa.
• Slash chord search - search the Chord Library for slash chord voicings (e.g. Am/C, G/D) directly in the search bar. These are derived automatically from existing library voicings where the lowest-pitched note differs from the chord root.
• Slash chord identification fix - Chord Master's Explore tab now correctly identifies the bass note by lowest pitch in Hz, not by string position. In standard re-entrant GCEA tuning the G string (G4) sounds higher than the C string (C4), so it is no longer incorrectly treated as the bass when both strings are active.
• Contact Us - a new Support section in Settings lets you send feedback, report a bug, or request a feature. Tapping Contact Us opens Mail with a structured template pre-filled with your enabled tools and diagnostic information.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-16

• Show Finger Numbers - the Settings toggle now works: when on (default), chord diagram finger markers show colour-coded circles with finger numbers; when off, markers appear as a plain dot with no number.
• Marker Color - when finger numbers are off, choose the marker colour in Settings → Chord Diagrams: Cyan (default), Indigo, Mint, or Pink.
• Chord Library tuning - the library supports Standard GCEA and Baritone DGBE voicings. When your Settings tuning is Standard or Baritone, the library uses it automatically. When Settings is Low G or D Tuning, the library shows Standard GCEA voicings with an information banner; use the ••• menu to switch to Baritone if needed. Your Settings tuning is not affected
• Chord Master tuning indicator - the Build and Explore tabs now display the active tuning (e.g. "Low G tuning") in the navigation bar, confirming those tabs always reflect your current tuning.
• Position Finder now shows a Key / Mode toggle when the fretted position isn't the key's own root. Switch between seeing note degrees and colours relative to the key you're playing in (e.g. G) or relative to the matched mode (e.g. D Phrygian Dominant).

• Redesigned fretboards - strings and frets now render like a real instrument instead of a grid of cells.
• New Fretboard Skin option — choose Dark, Walnut, Rosewood, Ebony, or Maple.
• Fret position markers — inlay dots now appear consistently on every fretboard, positioned in the gaps between strings at the standard ukulele fret positions.
• String gauge — strings are drawn at gauge-accurate widths: C string thickest, A string thinnest, g string medium-light (matching standard GCEA string sets).
• Resolved slight fretboard string name alignment.
