## What is gtmux?

Manage the coding agents and tmux sessions on your Mac from your phone.

Install gtmux on your Mac and pair your phone. Claude Code, Codex, other coding agents, and ordinary terminal panes will appear on your phone, so you can follow their progress and respond while you're away from your desk.

HQ (Headquarter)
HQ is the command center for your agents. It follows their sessions, works out what needs your decision and what can continue, then catches you up on what changed. It acts on your behalf only within the scope you authorize, with a record of every action.

As work progresses, HQ adds reusable lessons to your local knowledge base. It draws on what worked before when a similar task comes up. Your corrections and new evidence help it revise old lessons and its own approach, so it gets to know your projects and preferences over time.

Session status
The radar lists your panes and agents, using colors to show their status. For agents without a direct integration, gtmux can read the terminal screen to identify their state.

Replies and commands
Answer an agent or send a command to a terminal from your phone. Numbered choices appear as buttons. You can also bring a session to the front on your Mac. Pairing permissions control terminal input; read-only access cannot type into a pane.

Other features
• Get notified when an agent needs you or finishes.
• Check remaining quota, the tightest usage window, and its reset time.
• See the current agent's state on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.
• Share a link limited to the sessions you choose. Revoke it at any time; input access must be enabled separately.
• On iPad, the radar sits in the sidebar beside the open session, with room for HQ and pending decisions. Hardware keyboard shortcuts are supported.
• Available in English and Simplified Chinese.

Connecting
gtmux is free and open source, and runs on your Mac. You can reach it from the phone app, terminal, menu bar, browser, or gtmux attach on another computer. Install it on the Mac first, then pair your phone. Setup guide: ccy.dev/projects/gtmux.

Anywhere access can use a gtmux tunnel without a VPN. You can also connect over your own network. Agents continue running on your Mac.

Privacy
gtmux collects no data. There is no account. Your sessions and your token stay on your device and your Mac.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.58 — 2026-09-28

Connection and routes
- You can now choose the Direct route your Mac uses. In Settings → Route, see the current route and latency measured from your phone, then pick another route. The Mac app also lets you choose a Direct server in Preferences or the pairing window.
- The phone reconnects after your Mac wakes, gtmux restarts, or its connection address changes. The last known list dims while the Mac is offline so it cannot be mistaken for live status.
- A failed route switch keeps the previous route. Pairing and connection failures explain what happened and what to try next instead of spinning indefinitely.

HQ and Codex
- The HQ page on phone and iPad now lists work that is still running or waiting for you. Open the list to jump straight to a session.
- Chats show whether a message came from you, HQ, or another agent. Older HQ replies keep the name of the agent that wrote them after you switch between Claude Code and Codex. Time markers appear after a day or a longer break.
- Codex completion and approval states are identified more accurately. Completed turns leave the working state promptly, reducing false alerts. HQ's internal wake-ups no longer produce ordinary session notifications.
- HQ now confirms that long tasks sent to Codex were submitted, including when Codex folds the pasted text into a short label.

Terminal, attachments, and sharing
- Terminal panes can keep their original Mac width, with horizontal scrolling for wide Codex screens. The cursor also stays in place around Chinese text.
- Send attachments up to 30 MB. Oversized files and failed uploads show a clear error, and the send button stops spinning.
- Share links now show the short code at the end without truncation. Copy the link, use the system share sheet, or copy the terminal command; you can reopen the delivery panel later from the link list.

Diagnostics and accessibility
- The phone now keeps a local diagnostic record. In Settings → Diagnostics, browse it by day, filter errors, or copy and share it. The record stays on the phone until you choose to share it.
- Pairing, input, and attachment controls have clearer VoiceOver labels. The iPad sidebar shows the full Mac name, and task and share panels fit the larger screen.

Update gtmux on your Mac as well for the HQ, Codex, and route improvements.

### 1.0.30 — 2026-09-17

iPad support
- gtmux now runs on iPad as well as iPhone. On an iPad the session list sits on the left, and the session, HQ page or All panes you open shows on the right.
- With a hardware keyboard attached, hold ⌘ to see every shortcut.

HQ conversation
- Scroll up to see the conversation from before a /clear.
- Tasks HQ dispatched, sessions it reclaimed and the times it was woken appear in the conversation when they happened.
- Items HQ is waiting on you for have a Tell HQ button: accept its recommendation in one tap, or reply yourself.

Usage
- Plan bars change color with use: blue normally, amber once a weekly window passes 85%, red when a window is used up.
- Token use by day, shown as a calendar heatmap with today's and this week's totals and how many days in a row you have used it.
- Window names, reset times and machine warnings follow your phone's language.

Other improvements
- Interface text is plainer, and errors say what to do next.
- The HQ page's tiles and All panes show a loading indicator while they load.

Plus many bug fixes.

### 1.0.14 — 2026-09-11

Thirty-odd releases since the version on your phone. Here is what you can use.

Act on a session by long-pressing it
- No need to open it: answer its question, tell it to carry on, interrupt the turn, hand it to HQ, jump to it on the Mac, or read the diff.
- The press answers back: the row arms while you hold it, and there is a tap the moment it is recognised.
- Reachable by VoiceOver: every action in that menu.

The HQ page, rebuilt
- What matters first: what is owed to you, then what HQ did while you were away, then the context.
- Its work is visible: dispatches, reclaims and notes, grouped by when they happened, with the quiet between them named.
- Its documents have a home: the situation board, the knowledge base and usage, each a tile carrying a live figure.
- The knowledge base is searchable: hundreds of entries, by title, id or topic.

New: a usage view
- Where your quota stands: which plan window is tightest, how long until it resets, who is burning it, what the machine has left.
- Codex too: its quotas alongside Claude's.

Reading and typing
- More screen: full screen no longer reserves room for a hidden status bar, and the bar above the terminal is three bands instead of four — about sixteen more lines.
- A board you can scan: sections and panes stay folded until you open one.
- Drafts survive: a half-typed message is waiting when you come back, and input history follows the project you are in.
- A failed send explains itself: it says why, and keeps what you wrote.

The Lock Screen card
- Sharper: the session that needs you, its actual question, and how long it has waited — and it no longer goes stale.
- Bilingual: it follows your system language.

The rest is a long run of fixes and polish.

### 0.68.0 — 2026-08-19

• Fixed: when an agent moved its conversation to a background process, the phone kept showing the old history.
• The chat now refreshes on its own instead of waiting for the pane's status to change.

### 0.66.1 — 2026-08-18

• Sessions that stopped on an error get their own group instead of sitting among the finished ones.
• The situation board is laid out properly now.
• Paired devices and share links say what device it is, where it connected from, and whether a link has been used.
