## What is Guarded Key?

Guarded Key is the most secure password manager which uses encrypted database to store all your online identities, bank accounts, credit/debit cards, contact information, product codes (software activation keys, serial numbers, registration codes).

DATA MANAGEMENT
Encrypted database is stored on your device. Use cloud service to enable database mirroring and synchronize data on all your devices from the cloud. The database uses very strong encryption, so database in the cloud and upload/download is absolutely safe. Local database on the device is the primary data source for the app. If the cloud service (or the internet) is not accessible for any reason, the app works with local database and you have your data under total control (unlike online password managers). Transition between offline and online is made seamlessly without any user interaction. You can always backup/restore data through iTunes on your desktop computer. 

DATA SECURITY
Each record in the database is encrypted with 4096-bit key and 8 layers of encryption consisting of different encryption standards (AES, Triple DES, Blowfish, Twofish). Encrypted database can only be accessed after providing username and password (this is the only password you have to remember). Database is protected so well, that breaking 10 character password would take on a personal computer 8 billion years.

GuardedKey is serious protection for all of your passwords and sensitive data.  The designer has taken great care in creating an App that provides a level of protection that’s hard to surpass.  It stores all of your passwords and sensitive information and easily syncs it across all of your devices via iCloud.  The data doesn’t reside in the cloud, it simply uses the cloud to synchronize.  All of the data stays secure in your device behind an amazing curtain of security.  After looking at most of the other options in the App Store, I chose this one for its effective use of cryptological tools at a reasonable price.  No monthly subscription, no ads, no surprises.  The developer has personally assisted me with questions and small issues quickly and with a great attitude.  I highly recommend this to anybody who cares about computer security.

This is a great way to generate and safely store passwords and other account information. While some websites are structured so that automatic log in can't be utilized, the app itself performs as advertised and the peace of mind is appreciated.

Improvements:
When app is minimized, currently selected record remains visible if the app is reopened within 5 minutes. This is useful when switching between apps. Password of currently selected record is still automatically hidden for safety reasons when minimizing the app or switching to another app - that has not changed.
We recommend signing out before you leave the device unattended.

Dropped support for iOS 6, 7, 8.
This version supports iOS 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and (hopefully) higher.

iOS 10 update: fixed iCloud, In-App purchase (buy + restore).

1. Random password generator - Custom password setting now allows to generate random password. Auto-generated (cryptographic) password was for users too difficult to understand, but it is still the default option, because of great advantages - if you accidentally delete a record, you can easily recreate it and recover original password using Provider, Id, Password Length and Password Variation (if you use these values systematically or if you never change passwords), and passwords can be manually synchronized over insecure channels (in case aliens come to earth and destroy or disrupt our communication networks).

2. Password strength indicator - shows password strength using animated gauge. How to use the indication:
Red (insecure password) - easy to crack. Increase password length, use lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and punctuation marks. 
Yellow (average password) - could be broken after some effort or easily with supercomputer. Increase safety same way as described earlier. 
Green (secure password) - difficult to break into your online account, however using supercomputer and certain amount of time could be broken if the length is less than 12 characters (default value for Guarded Key). If you are a billionaire and use password generator for banking, use at least 15 characters or perhaps even 20. After all Guarded Key is doing all the remembering of long passwords, so why not use really long one (max. length supported 100 characters). Tap on password gauge and the app shows "Password summary", which shows password statistics (length, number of combinations, how much time it takes to break that password).

3. Expiration indicator - shows credit card expiration and product expiration using animated gauge.

4. Optimized for new iPhone and iPad screen resolutions. The list of records is always visible on iPhone with wider screen. Up to 8 different layouts specifically designed for each screen size (16 when considering portrait and landscape mode). Could you imagine so carefully designed app a few years ago?

Note:
This is last release, which supports iOS 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Next version will only support iOS 8, 9, 10 and higher.
If you have older device you can continue using older version of Guarded Key, but when the time comes, we recommend upgrading to a device with latest version of iOS. Devices are getting better, faster and have more capabilities, which will allow Guarded Key app to bring new features.

This update brings 4 improvements. New features 1. and 4. are based on user feedback. Thank you all for your ideas and valuable insight into how you use the app.

1. Added new field “Category” in Online Accounts tab. This field is optional. We recommend using it with new feature "sorting and grouping".

2. Sorting and Grouping - when sorting records by Category, Group or Date, the app will organize records in the list in a tree-like structure, where records are separated into groups. You can test this feature with Demo Data on your device, if you go to Menu - Show Welcome Dialog or check out screenshots on our Facebook page.

3. Sorting options are saved - the app will remember sorting options. The next time you start the app, you will have the view setup as you left it.

4. Phone number - field length increased to 60 characters. Great for phone banking! Add account number, client ID, PIN, password etc. into the phone number in following format:
Option A: +1-800-123456,,,1,987654321,112233 or 
Option B: +1-800-123456;1;987654321;112233.
Note: Comma - wait for 2 seconds and continue dialing, Semicolon - wait until user presses “Dial” button, then continue dialing. How does that sound? Phone banking cannot be any easier.

iCloud:
Synchronize your Guarded Key database through iCloud service on all your devices. The app uses mirroring, which means that your encrypted database is stored locally on your device and mirror image of the database is stored in the cloud. Having encrypted database in the cloud is absolutely secure, nobody can access your data. Synchronization never uploads/downloads plain text data, only encrypted database is transferred over the networks. Encrypted database is secured by 4096-bit key and 8 layers of encryption.
When device goes offline, Guarded Key still provides full access to your local database and allows making changes. When the device is online again, all changes are uploaded to the cloud. Guarded Key on all your other devices will synchronize those changes. Transition between offline and online is made seamlessly without any user interaction.
Guarded Key uses smart synchronization, which can handle all conflicts:
a) Change one record on two devices at the same time or while devices are offline.
b) Change a record on one device and delete the same record on another device.
c) Add record A on one device and add record B on another devices, after synchronization both records will appear on both devices.

Other Cloud services will be available in future versions.

Guarded Key "Declaration of Independence" on cloud services: With cloud service enabled, you can still use iTunes on your desktop/laptop computer to access and backup your database. If cloud service is inaccessible for any reason, Guarded Key will be fully functional and data accessible from locally stored database.

How to enable cloud service:
a) Go to "Settings" on your device, select "iCloud" and setup your account if you haven't done already.
b) Turn "Documents & Data" setting "On".
c) Start Guarded Key and sign into your database.
d) When iCloud is enabled on the device, Guarded Key app detects it and enables iCloud synchronization automatically.

How to disable cloud service:
a) User can disable iCloud service on the device in "Settings -> iCloud" by turning "Documents & Data" Off
b) User can leave iCloud on the device enabled and disable cloud only for Guarded Key by selecting menu item "Settings" in main menu of the app and switching radio button "Cloud service" to "Disabled". In this case other apps will have access to iCloud, except of Guarded Key.
