### 2/5 — Recipes not checked

*2026-08-13, version 2.6*

Yet another recipe tonight with 2 items on ingredient list that are not then mentioned in the cooking method. Getting tedious.

### 4/5 — Edit: Recipes restored after being lost for a week.

*2026-07-30, version 2.4*

Edit: after a second attempt to sort out the issue the technical team came to the rescue and the recipes are back. I don’t really understand why they went or why they’re back. I think the initial chat function was desperately unhelpful (saying it was all unrecoverable) and I’m grateful to the technical team for sorting it out. I will probably keep the account now but I’m wondering if a backup is available because it was a blow when I thought everything, including my notes, were all lost.

### 2/5 — Unreliable saved recipes function

*2026-07-19, version 2.2*

I’ve been using this app for nearly a year and saving recipes into folders, a significant part of the reason for having the app. Then, for no particular reason, the app lost all my saved recipes. I contacted the help function and the recipes aren’t recoverable, they just said sorry about that. I’m not renewing my subscription and the guardian says I have to go to Apple to enquire about my money back. Most unsatisfactory and disappointing.

### 4/5 — Inspiration

*2026-07-02, version 2.1*

I’m not enough of a cook to pay for this app on its own but it’s included in my Guardian subscription. I like the range of recipes, the layout, and being able to set filters for dietary preferences. It’s mostly the recipes that are published in the paper/on the website so they’re on the fancy side, with lots of desserts. Therefore, for me, it would be nice if the app-exclusive recipes included more everyday/store cupboard/batch cookable vegetarian mains.

### 3/5 — Still glitchy and a bit limited.

*2026-06-12*

Good to have all these recipes in on place. But since it’s not cheap, the app itself is still very glitchy and missing some key features. E.g. it’s not possible to search your own saved recipes (or to filter a search by save recipes). Also whenever I click a link from a notification on my phone it doesn’t take me to the advertised recipe. So that’s pretty pointless. And for the iPad version, the recipe card is very small, there is a lot of wasted screen space. Would be better to have a large recipe card to it can be read from further away.

### 4/5 — Great App - apart from the search facility!

*2026-06-12, version 1.98*

Love this app and use it regularly. I would rate it 5 stars if only the search facility worked a bit better. Nothing works for me - even putting in the exact title of a recipe I've used before Still doesn't find it!

### 4/5 — Good but previous notes gone?

*2026-06-01, version 1.96*

I very much enjoy this app and it keeps improving steadily but I’ve just realised at some point an update has blitzed all my notes I’d added to recipes I’d cooked. All gone. Apart from that, it’s my go to for meal ideas and I’ve only had one recipe I’d not cook again.

### 3/5 — Frustrating!

*2026-05-20, version 1.94*

When tapping on a recipe link in their email, it takes you to the Apple app page. I already have the app, but the recipe Im trying to look at from email does not automatically open in the app..what a waste.

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2026-05-19, version 1.94*

I thought that this app would allow me to saved the recipes I liked on the app from the actual Saturday guardian using the QR code at the bottom of the recipe. I was disappointed that I have to pay monthly for the privilege, when I've already bought the paper.

### 5/5 — The best recipe app

*2026-04-18, version 1.90*

This is a great app, I love that you can add notes because I always tweak recipes, save recipes into different categories and that I can mark as cooked when I’ve tried them. Brilliant

### 2/5 — Self Righteous vegans

*2026-04-14, version 1.89*

The app asked users for input as to what recipes they wanted to see. I suggested short ribs. I received a very pompous and self righteous reply saying the Guardian doesn’t publish beef recipes because of the environmental impact! It doesn’t seem to mind promoting exotic recipes that require food that are imported from across half the world by air such as mangoes while beef farmed a few miles away is taboo.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2026-03-28, version 1.87*

I love the variety of recipes, inspired by cooks, foods and ingredients from across the world, keeping recipes simple and scrumcious. I’m vegetarian and the app is a brilliant source for vegetarian recipes.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-03-22, version 1.86*

Loved finding new meals to make.

### 5/5 — The best

*2026-03-09, version 1.84*

I’ve tried several recipe collections, this is by far the best, especially for vegetarian recipes

### 2/5 — All my notes disappeared

*2026-03-04, version 1.84*

I was enjoying this app so much, making notes on dishes I’d cooked for next time, and last week all the notes disappeared. Frustration and disappointing

### 2/5 — Under-whelming!!

*2026-02-23, version 1.83*

Not impressed with this. I expected better. As I live in Cornwall, I do not have access to Asian shops for the ingredients which many of the recipes need. Also, savouries and sweet dishes are mixed up. You couldn't just look at the app for recipes right before cooking, as most of the meals require specialist ingredients.

### 5/5 — The best cooking app

*2026-02-21, version 1.81*

I used to save the magazine but now I have all the recipes and they are easily accessible. Loads of great recipes and always something fab to try.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work, quits

*2026-06-01, version 1.97*

App no longer works at all. It quits immediately. Simply cannot use.

### 1/5 — Lack of Nuance in global food discussions.

*2026-05-23, version 1.95*

I loved this app, however they have made a decision to not give beef recipes due to the environmental impact of beef but still having avocado recipes. This is a poor and simple minded approach to complex issues. UK beef does not have the same impact as multinational high-intensity farming elsewhere in the world. Buying British beef especially if you can get local is not as harmful as industrialised “veganism” currently about to day with “fake meats”. Buying an Avocado in Britain is likely to have a similar in not worse impact than buying British beef. The Guardian’s decision smacks of high-handed moral superiority removing the ability to have a sensible debate about a nuanced issue. Therefore I have cancelled my subscription.

### 1/5 — App not working & cannot report issue

*2026-05-02, version 1.92*

App won’t open, reporting functions makes reporting the issue that it won’t open difficult

### 1/5 — There really No fish/seafood filter ! And no scaling

*2026-01-01, version 1.76*

There no fish/seafood only filter in the diet section. Did any one actually think though the ux?

The pescatarian filter is not good enough, since it filled with vegan recipes.

Like you bothered to have vegetarian, vegan and meat free but not a seafood only filter? That shows a clear bias to certain recipes.

Additionally no scaling options which Is like the most basics feature of a recipe app, even many recipe websites have that

If the developer responses that you could just search for fish then they missed the whole point, the developers should then reconsider their approach to UX.

### 1/5 — abusive subscription

*2025-09-12, version 1.64*

I already pay for The Guardian, and now you’re trying to gouge me for an extra subscription at an abusive price? I’ll likely cancel my Guardian subscription altogether, I don’t give my money to companies that take advantage of me.

### 1/5 — Good, but could be even better

*2025-09-10, version 1.64*

I’ve just dowloaded this and love the look of the recipes, but some easy tweaks would better meet current expectations. I’d love to see the ability to increase servings with a tap that shows how to raise quantities. It’s also strange that there are no notes for further explanation (at least in the recipes I used). I had to search for answers on the internet. Tips and notes can gives cooks broader context in their decision making.

### 1/5 — Tracking

*2025-08-06, version 1.60*

Any app that tracks your internet activity is not worth downloading.

### 1/5 — Guess the cost - Guardian should do better

*2025-03-30, version 1.42*

Why would I click on a “free trial” link where they don’t state the actual cost (they take payment details for the “free trial” and hope I forget to unsubscribe, right??) This is no way to build subscriptions. People are more savvy than this guys… be upfront about the cost or make people pay to buy the app upfront.

Difficult to even sign in to get to that point.

It would be better if you could open access at least some content per month to let your users see if it’s worthwhile. And if you also told me how much it is per month.

I expect better from the Guardian, where I do actually subscribe

### 1/5 — Access failure

*2025-03-20*

This odd the second time in 3 months since subscribing to the app that I cannot gain access. I have followed all troubleshooting steps to no avail. I love the recipes when it works. When it fails it’s unavailable. Disappointed and seeking refund

**Developer response:** Hi there, we're sorry you're having trouble signing into the Guardian Feast app. If you still require help, please email feast.feedback@theguardian.com and the team will get back to you as soon as possible.

### 1/5 — Paid App

*2025-03-16, version 1.40*

It is not clear at download on an I phone SE that this is a paid app. Fingerprint authentication, was followed by ‘ payment taken’ ? 14 day free trial .. and then how much thereafter please? Any potential costs should be immediately apparent and not buried .
