### 3/5 — I love Gubbins *but*

*2026-07-12, version 1.1.2*

When it stopped working across iOS platforms today, it gave me pause. There’s no clear way to contact app support, and during my search I realized that there haven’t been any app updates in about a year, which is no bueno given how many security vulnerabilities that can open your users up to.

Here’s to hoping there’s a fix and a major update soon (and that you don’t reset everyone’s streak since we’re all locked out today).

### 3/5 — Freezing issue

*2026-06-17, version 1.1.2*

I’ve played the game before but just redownloaded on a new phone, it’s a great game but my new phone is frozen on the Studio Folly screen. I hope there is some way I can play cause I was really wanting to do it again

### 2/5 — A bit hard to grasp

*2026-06-16, version 1.1.2*

There’s a lot going on in this game, and you’re only allowed to play once a day without spending money. I can feel that the developers have put a lot of time and care into developing something fresh and fun here but I can’t help but find the paywall frustrating. $8 is a pretty fair price for unlimited play, but it’s a fairly complicated game as you unlock more ‘gubbins’ and if you’re only playing one quick game in the morning you could easily get overwhelmed the next day trying to remember how things work or what your strategies are. I think it would benefit a lot from a free trial period for new players even if it’s just two or three days. I want to play more, and I would totally pay to play more if I understood the mechanics better, but as it stands right now I don’t even know if it’s something I would want to play more of since there’s so much thrown at you and not a lot of space to process anything.

### 3/5 — This is cool and exactly

*2026-05-04*

You are the best

### 4/5 — Amazing!! Only flaw is the paywall.

*2026-02-27, version 1.1.2*

Love love love this game! As an avid word-game player, I was thrilled to find a new one! However, you can only play once a day for free, and that simply is not enough to curb my linguistic cravings.

### 2/5 — Bit disappointing

*2026-02-19, version 1.1.2*

Very fun game and very cute as well, really great concept but you can only play once a day or else you have to pay. Honestly a bit disappointing.

### 4/5 — Eh

*2026-02-06, version 1.1.2*

It’s good I guess
Nice style
Wish it wasn’t only one game a day tho

### 3/5 — Crash

*2026-01-13, version 1.1.2*

Game keeps crashing when I try to play the classic. Paid for full version too

### 3/5 — awesome concept mid execution

*2025-11-22, version 1.1.2*

love this game and it would def be 5/5 stars if the postcarding UI was better. the postcard making part is so fun but truly so horrible to work with. at the very least it needs an undo button. would also appreciate a way to lock layers and a better way to select colors for words bc refreshing until u get back to the right color is so annoying especially when ur finger keeps missing the refresh icon bc u have to press such a specific place for it to actually work. all those icons/buttons (refresh, font choices, etc) need their activation radiuses or whatever to be bigger bc they are all so hard to use. and in a similar vein sometimes when you are trying to select a layer even if u press exactly where that thing/word is, it’ll latch on to some other object that is nowhere near and u just have to delete everything and start again to fix the layering. i love this game but the best part (postcards) becomes way too consuming and frustrating.
i also wouldn’t mind more free unlockable things/images. the amt of in app purchases is lowkey unhinged like i understand paying for the unlimited plays version but the rest of it is absurd. it would be more acceptable if there was also some sort of in-game point system where some things can be bought w points instead of only real money

### 5/5 — Gubblover42

*2025-11-04, version 1.1.2*

I love this game. That's all. I really wish I could’ve restored all of my punctuation packs, though. Oh well.

### 5/5 — Tens across the board

*2025-10-24, version 1.1.2*

I absolutely adore this gorgeous game. It’s the perfect engaging and charming app, an antidote to the endless minefield of dopamine and time stealing games that fill you with endless guilt. Please make more just like this one! 💕

### 3/5 — Not good

*2025-10-08*

The game cost to play don’t download it and what should I do when I have to pay for the monsters and the games (you have 3 games for free daily) and then you have to wait 12 h to play another 3 free games

### 5/5 — Cooles Game

*2025-10-08*

Das Spiel ist sehr cool. Das Verbinden der Wörter motiviert einen immer . Sehr zu empfehlen 😁

### 5/5 — Wonderful in every way

*2025-09-24, version 1.1.2*

An incredible little game with everything you could want: great music, adorable animations, simple yet challenging gameplay, and some unexpected humor to top it all off. I opened the daily game and laughed out loud at the prewritten phrase on the board… what more could anybody ask for.

### 5/5 — Great word game

*2025-09-22, version 1.1.2*

Love this game, great graphics and addictive gameplay if you enjoy word games. Would love to see some new Gubbins added to the game!

### 5/5 — Best word game

*2025-09-20, version 1.1.2*

Seriously the best word game ever. From the background music to the funky gubbins, you really can’t find a word game that beats this

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2025-08-31, version 1.1.2*

Too many bugs that bounce good Gubbins off the board before they’ve done their thing. Pointless.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No tutorial

*2026-04-14, version 1.1.2*

Couldn’t even learn how to play it during the free trial then it became paid and I never even successfully played it

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing my phone

*2026-03-20, version 1.1.2*

Love this game but it keeps crashing my phone! Especially when I’m listening to a podcast etc. really sucks!

### 1/5 — Pay

*2026-02-15, version 1.1.2*

Another game you have to pay for to play, disappointing

### 1/5 — Data harvesting

*2025-08-16, version 1.1.2*

Once I realised the app was tracking me and harvesting my data I deleted it. I would gladly pay for the app if it respected my privacy

### 1/5 — Had me fooled

*2025-05-30, version 1.1.2*

This concept is interesting but it’s not fleshed out. The goal is get the high score, but how you get there is completely up to you. And not in a fun learn as you go way, but feels more like they just haven’t thought to add good instructions. But after awhile you’ll run into littler quirks called Gubbins that mix up the game, and others that ruin it. Not every Gubbin does what it says, don’t know if that’s just bad coding or another little quirk of this game, but it’s annoying and can derail an individual game with ease. Such as returning adjacent tiles to the draw pile, except it changes a Z to an M, completely messing up the word I was spelling. Or the pencil that becomes the perfect missing letter except it split one long word into two shorter words because it chose the wrong letter. There are lot of other examples I could give but I think I’ll just delete it instead.

### 1/5 — Intro glitch - can’t play

*2025-05-22, version 1.1.2*

I was doing the intro and there is a glitch with the rotate words part. I drag down and the words rotate, but then I release and it flings back to where it came from. so I can’t even play.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2025-04-21, version 1.1.2*

Too many bugs that keep shutting the game down and requiring a reinstall each time.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2025-03-10, version 1.1.2*

Needs an update, it’s been very buggy for me lately to the point I deleted the app and reinstalled it, but now all the things I’ve earned and unlocked have disappeared and my data has essentially been reset. I hope my subscription for infinite play isn’t affected by this.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2025-03-10, version 1.1.2*

Fake word game designed to give points for gibberish words and make everyone think they are a master of the English language: If I had known the word list was this bad I would not have purchased. Bummer to see that it is accepting spelling errors as actual words. Chestnut as chestnutt? Boundures? That’s not a thing. Expensive game to have non-words in its word list.

### 1/5 — Pay to play not free

*2025-03-07, version 1.1.2*

Meh

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good

*2026-08-11, version 1.1.2*

Very smart and fun to play like rouge words but with cartoon characters

### 5/5 — Love the art style

*2026-07-13, version 1.1.2*

That’s what first caught my attention. Little did I know it was the same studio behind Dogpile. Love your work. Great game, addicting but still very chill. Definitely recommend!

### 5/5 — Wordplay staple!

*2026-07-05, version 1.1.2*

Love this game- great design, funny and no ads! Did the free version for a while and then bought it, it’s a one time purchase and no subscription- I wanted to support the people that made this!

### 5/5 — LOVE IT

*2026-06-10, version 1.1.2*

SUGGESTION THO: can we have a real infinite play where we get a row of letters every time they run out so we can keep going. and the game ends when we run out of room

or maybe a timed version? idk i dont like that one as much but truly i want a longer version of this game pretty please

is that too much to ask, hank

### 5/5 — Got it and ❤️🫂

*2026-02-16, version 1.1.2*

Thanks yall

### 5/5 — Great Design and Gameplay

*2026-01-03*

This Game is so much fun to Play and has a beautiful Design with cool Animations. Definitely deserves the 5 stars 👍

### 5/5 — Great design!

*2025-12-10, version 1.1.2*

Obsessed with the art style, the fun vibes, the mechanics of gubbins🌷

### 5/5 — Really fun game!

*2025-12-08, version 1.1.2*

Probably one of the best mobile games I’ve ever played. It doesn’t shove any ads in your face, the style is cute, the concept is unique and it’s so enjoyable. My only thing is I wish there wasn’t any timers and that you could play as many games as you’d like in a day

### 5/5 — So much fun!

*2025-11-23, version 1.1.2*

My only qualm is a couple times now, I’ve had a game paused and when I go back to play it, I accidentally hit “end game” instead of the X in the top right to close the pause menu. So, I wish it took a few more steps or was more difficult to unintentionally end the game from the pause menu, maybe an “are you sure?” prompt or something before ending it. Other than that, it’s a lot of fun!

### 5/5 — Great word puzzle game

*2025-11-18, version 1.1.2*

I was writing a super long review about this game while switching between apps to confirm some things, but that disappeared because of RAM, so in short;

The game's great, and is worth the price of entry ($0.00) for the daily play, with zero ads or predatory micro-transactions.

The DLC is fairly priced for what you get, it's all one-off purchases for unlimited play, minor expansions, and some cosmetics for the post-game score card editor.

Overall, great word puzzle game with a vast and lenient dictionary and some very nice music and artwork that complement the gameplay.
