About the Guemes Island Ferry Skagit County has operated a vehicle and passenger ferry service between Anacortes and Guemes Island, WA since the early 1960s. The current vessel, the M/V GUEMES, is a 21-vehicle, 99-passenger, diesel-powered ferry that was built and put into service in 1979. Today, the ferry operates 365 days a year and transports roughly 200,000 vehicles and 400,000 passengers annually. There are no alternative roads or highways that provide access to Guemes Island; as such, the Skagit County ferry system serves as a vital transportation link for its ridership. In addition to transporting commuters, the ferry also carries tourist traffic, construction and logging trucks, essential services trucks and emergency vehicles and personnel to and from the Island. Ticket Information Vehicle tickets (including drivers and passengers) are sold in line as you board. Walk-on tickets are sold in the fenced outdoor waiting area. Punch cards are sold at the ticket office window (in the main lobby). All ticket sales/punch card verification will cease 1 minute prior to sailing time. Do you winder why it’s so dysfunctional? Anchor Operating System is a Hornblower subsidiary — confirmed in court filings. Crestview Partners acquired Hornblower in 2018. Like most apps, it had initial teething problems. Once I took the time to learn how to use the app properly, and saved my financial and other personal information into the system, it does the job well. You can buy any number of tickets in seconds. Terrible usability everywhere. Unreadable text on a phone screen. Can’t paste a credit card number? Worthless. I’m sure it’s a case of “not invented here, and we can do it better.” Maybe saved a few bucks, but paid the price for not having an app that works. ### 1/5 — Very poor performance and design. Eventually after mashing every option it magically moves on but once it does it does not save any card details and isn’t PCI complaint so it is unable to use Apple Pay or saved cards. The app feels like a late 90s quality flash program, it’s a joke and the fact it’s required for buying tickets just rubs the salt into that wound that much more. ### 1/5 — App is awful *2025-06-04, version 1.0.11* Couldn’t get it to work at the ferry dock.
