Being able to input a scale and highlight chord notes so quickly is amazing. Nothing else comes close, I was about ready to build my own until I found this. Nazar is also incredibly responsive to emails, and quickly acknowledged a bug I found. I use this app constantly to identify scales for songs and try out ideas by tapping the fretboard. The wide array of selected forms (arpeggios, triads scales, etc) is useful as a dinghy is when stranded on an island. Bought the full version, no regrets. Learned a lot already in just a few days with the “trainer” mode. Actually the trainer mode is more like a game. I don’t often write reviews, but I feel compelled to write one for this so that the developer can continue, and that anyone who wants to learn guitar has the opportunity to use this app. It is absolutely free to try and I encourage all musicians who use a fretboard to try it out! You won’t be disappointed. The ability to explore scales, triads, modes, build your own diagonals, etc. it’s amazing. Now we’re adjusting the scale colors to match Scotty West’s Absolutely Understand Guitar program. Then there is the training element … Oh, and when I’ve had questions, Nazar has been quick and thoughtful in his responses. This one has it all. ### 5/5 — Modern, beautiful and informative!!! *2024-12-09* The UI in this app is so well designed that you don’t need to reference a manual or spend hours trying to figure it out. Example- the names of scales , triads and the way information is presented are always categorized in a clean column that displays well in my iPad and iPhone. A very elegant modern design and worth the price for learning scales on the fretboard. ### 5/5 — The guitar app I have been searching for *2024-12-02* I have tried every guitar app out there. This one does exactly what I want it to. All the others are miss something or just don’t quite present the fretboard right or wont show the interval and note. Then the trainer games are perfect. Its utility is almost absurd (lol) it’s so good. How many apps can you say that you use daily. This is the one. Customization is the best. You can see notes from chords, triads, and scales just on certain strings and or frets and save them. ### 5/5 — Very useful *2024-11-02* This app is so useful for fiddling around and learning notes, intervals, scales, modes, CAGED. Very clean interface. Easy to use too. Cant play more than one note simultaneously (like for double stops, thirds and sixths, etc). But all things considered, I like this fretboard app more that most of the others just cuz its easy to use. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Buggy, do not buy *2025-09-02* App randomly deletes your custom scale patterns and has no way to let you rearrange their order. So if you say wrote out the modes for a few different scales in order, then reopen the app and it deletes one at the top, that’s potentially dozens of scales you have to delete yourself just to re-add it so it’s in the correct order. Every single time I’ve opened the app it has deleted patterns I’ve saved. Incredibly frustrating **Developer response:** Hi, please contact me using menu -> report a bug (that will be via email, or just use email: nazar.vorotnyak@gmail.com) and we can go through everything. Patterns are added for specific tuning and specific scale. If you added a scale, then added patterns and then removed the scale because you want it in a different order (order can't be changed as of now, that's true) then patterns will be removed together with the scale (Right now the app doesn't show any warning, I will add the warning). Patterns can’t magically know that they have to be preserved and then added into a new scale that you will add later. Because the one you removed is a different scale from the one you added later even if they both have the same intervals and the name. Patterns disappearing when you remove the scale is expected. About deleting a scale at the top. I am trying to reproduce it and I can't, I will investigate it more but if you showed me what you do and how that happens it would help. Rearranging patterns is available. Drag and Drop. You can move patterns between different groups too. Rearranging of groups isn't available but the group is just a name. You can rename them and just move patterns around to match whatever you have in mind. In any case, please contact me and with more details I will be able to fix everything or at least explain why something happened the way it did. ### 1/5 — No setting for capo *2025-04-18, version 1.2.13* I believed there was a capo setting. There isn’t. Complete waste of money. ### 1/5 — It was good but *2024-12-07* With scales and chord websites a dime a dozen, the audacity for any app to expect you to pay for additional tunings is astonishing. Your app is not worth spending money on when I can just open a website. Looks like that’s what I will be doing. **Developer response:** In the free version of the app you can add 1 custom tuning in case you can't find the tuning you need among free ones. The app has a lot of stuff for free that you won't find in other apps of this kind. One star review just because you don't have for free what you expect and simply missed the feature that can give you what you want for free (adding a custom Tuning) in the app that I develop for 3 years. I will assume you just had a bad mood. ### 1/5 — Unusable *2022-06-12, version 0.4* Crashes when you try to change scale mode. ### 3/5 — Nice but *2024-09-27* Nice collection of guitar fretboard uses and training. However, no explanation of how the trainings should be done. Also when you touch fretboard in interval training to move location it results in a wrong answer. Be nice to move fretboard some other way. **Developer response:** Hi, which game is the problem in? "Identify interval" or "Find Interval". I will assume "Find interval" because this is where you have to tap on the fretboard to answer. When you tap you select an answer, when you scroll it scrolls and doesn't select an answer. That's how it works for me. Unless I scroll very very slowly then it may select the answer (but it is unlikely for people to scroll so slow). What device do you use? Maybe small screen sizes have this problem that makes small scroll to appear big. You may contact me via email using Menu -> Report a bug, it will be easier to figure out what exactly is wrong. As for the tutorial for Trainers, I think I will make a series of tutorials for everything in the app later and put in on YouTube and reference it from varies places in the app. Will be much easier to explain everything. But that will be later, first I wanna finish some features I am working on like Melody ear training Trainers ### 3/5 — It could be useful. *2023-11-29, version 0.7.8* I am not exactly sure what the app is for so I have not purchased it. My hope is that it can be used to write chords so that I can copy and paste them to a document. The problems so far are the size of the chord photo in that I’m not sure if it will fit at the top of a chord sheet like usual. Secondly, when I delete a note from the chord, it deletes that note from every position. I am sure there is a way to have a single G in the G chord rather than all of the possible G notes with in the chosen frets. ### 5/5 — Great App! Fair and Responsive Developer *2026-08-25* The free version is great and only requires one ad a DAY. Wanted to write this review just for that alone to support a free app that’s actually usable. Lots of features and customizability. Sometimes I feel there’s too many features/options/buttons cluttered together, but other than that generally great. Thank you! **Developer response:** Thank you for such a review. Yes, there is some clutter built over the years, it is always a compromise between making it simple for newcomers and having more features for those who already got used to the app and know their way around. The clutter is less scary for the latter. There is a structure to the app and once you see it , it won’t be so hard to navigate. For example the main page: you have menu button, toolbar and the fretboard, three distinct areas, the toolbar has a lot of icons that could be called “clutter” but once you know the most important ones you just ignore the rest for now and learn about them later. There is also a review of almost everything in the Menu -> Video guide to help see what is available and where. ### 5/5 — Extremely helpful app *2026-08-18* This is hands down my favorite guitar education app. It is easy to use, many great features and it is absolutely worth the paid subscription. Thank you!! ### 5/5 — Amazing app 9/10 *2026-05-25* Such a under rated app I love it I use it almost everyday just one thing, I wish in the fretboard it had a mode to show both the flats and sharps and not just one of them as I would like to also memorize both notes names EX: Ab/G# A Bb/A# B C **Developer response:** Thank you, Note trainers have an option “Combine Sharps & Flats” where if you select both C# and Db it will ask you them combined. As for the main fretboard right now there is no option to do that because note names are derived from root note and intervals of a selected scale (one scale may have C#, another Db, for the exact same note). There is an option to make them static (hat icon, in the Menu > Video guide there is a section “Enharmonic settings” where I show how this works) where they will be either all sharps or all flats or whatever else you configure. For this mode I could probably think of something to make it possible to combine for such case. I will do it but unfortunately that will happen later because I am working on bigger features right now and wanna finish them first. ### 5/5 — Essential app for a guitarist *2026-04-04* If you are serious about expanding your chord and scale vocabulary, this app is the best. The interface is very flexible and you can customize it to focus on shapes vs intervals. You can customize existing scales and chords and save the new ones. Any tuning you play in can be used within the app. Also chord and scales can be saved as photos. It allows you to quickly input a note progression on one string, and it automatically populates them in the rest, and if it matches an existing scale, it will let you know. To shift the key, all you have to do is select whichever key you want and all the notes adapt to the new key. That’s just to name a few excellent features of this app. ## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Amazing *2026-01-25, version 1.3.15* Amazing little app. Found it on a Reddit sub and use it daily for memorizing the notes on the fretboard and caged system. 1 ad per day and you have the choice to pay a 1 time fee of $24. There’s so much to this app, but it shines in getting you into a state of pattern recognition. I wish you could still buy the pro version instead of a monthly subscription, though. **Developer response:** Hi, thank you for such a feedback. There is a lifetime option to buy (one time purchase). You maybe missed it. If you decide to purchase lifetime just cancel your subscription, wait for it to expire (one month since the last renewal/purchase) and then you can find Lifetime option. If you just purchased the subscription you may try to refund it (just google how to do it, I can’t issue refunds myself, Apple doesn’t provide such a functionality to devs).
