I found I stayed in my comfort zone at first but the game cleverly rewards you for stepping out. Any game mode you manage to launch from there is also rendered unusable by this buggy zoom. Only drawback is it freezes up and boots you out sometimes. But just restart the game, it's not like I'm trying to get high score anyway. You need a bit of self control to force yourself to use a string you don't know the notes for (most players know the notes on the 6th string). I'm a relative beginner but even the hard mode is too easy.
