### 2/5 — Great content terrible interface

*2026-03-15, version 3.1.1*

Using these lessons on a computer presents reasonably well. The video can be viewed in parallel to the tabs. On an iPhone, however, the tablature is too small to read while the video is going. Even selecting full screen tabs retains the far too small print, forcing you to zoom in on selections and dragging manually. This is a terrible way to learn anything as 50% of your time is spend fiddling with the app instead of PLAYING YOUR GUITAR. Lessons content is fantastic.

### 2/5 — Can’t access Apple TV app

*2026-02-15, version 3.1.1*

As an intermediate player, the lessons I’ve sampled so far have actually been pretty good, introducing alternative approaches that could lead the way out of some well-established ruts. That’s great.

What’s not so great is that even though this app is advertised to function on three platforms, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, it’s impossible to log into the Apple TV app. I created and account with the “sign in with Apple” option, bought an annual subscription, and created full login credentials.

On the Apple TV app, two options for access are presented. The simplest (which works well for other apps I use) is the “restore subscription” option. This is supposed to simply recognize that my signed-in Apple ID already has a subscription purchased via my iPhone, and install the same credentials on the Apple TV app. Try this, and it does nothing. The other option is to login with your Guitar Tricks username and password. Try this, and it says the credentials are invalid.

I submitted a help request to the Guitar Tricks “contact support” option in the iPhone app, and never got a response.

So, two stars for some good lessons, but no more than that for one of three platforms being inaccessible, and zero response from customer help.

### 4/5 — Clunky UI

*2026-01-29, version 3.1.1*

I’m enjoying the lessons, but it’s always a crapshoot to resume where you left off after closing the app.

### 4/5 — Great for learning but…

*2026-01-05, version 3.1.1*

App tends to freeze a lot when pausing videos and trying to resume. Also, no way to mark a lesson as completed manually and the lessons don’t start back up where you left off. Every time I reopen the app is have to figure out where I left off. The lessons in each module could be easier to find.
The lessons do a good job of showing finger placement and the camera angles are helpful. Instructor is clear and concise and the learning is fun. I feel like it gives a certain level of satisfaction because there’s a clear path of learning guitar. Not just giving you exercises to do with no explanation as to why you are doing it.

### 2/5 — Missing Features

*2025-12-26, version 3.1.1*

You don’t get access to all the features on the app like you do on the desktop.

### 2/5 — Apple TV not working.

*2025-12-22, version 3.1.1*

I’ve tried every method on the Internet for logging in to the Apple TV, but it still says I have the wrong credentials. The fix I read from GuitarTricks is to use AirPlay, which is not a fix, just a workaround, so their app is useless on Apple TV.

### 4/5 — Great but needs a UI refresh

*2025-12-10, version 3.1.1*

Content is great, tutors are great. I do have a problem where it keeps forgetting my progress though and the whole UI could do with a refresh

### 3/5 — Almost there

*2025-11-25, version 3.1.1*

The app is convenient and simple to use. I am on the go all the time and primarily use my phone for lessons. So, I appreciate having it right there and in a good mobile format.

That said, even though it appears almost all the website’s functionality is there, it’s just not all there yet.

Progress is something that is clunky in the website. It takes a few steps to get there. It’s even harder on the app.

It’s not tracked up front on the app. You have it. It’s there. It is just hard to find.

In the lessons area every time you log on it looks as if you have done nothing. So if you don’t recall where you were you waist time looking around.

It isn’t a minor issue. But it’s not a deal breaker. I still think it’s nice to have the app.

But I do hope they work out a more graphic based or flow chart style of tracking progress. It helps motivate when you see ALL you have accomplished. And discouraging when it looks like nothing.

Good luck!

### 2/5 — Not enough music showing on lesson with iPad or Mac app. Jumps etc…

*2025-09-30, version 3.1.1*

Looking for tool that is easier to see music while teacher runs through material. Disappointed in app. Decent selection and maybe if I had huge monitor showing full lesson it would not be any issue

### 2/5 — Unreliable

*2025-05-08, version 3.1.0*

Often won’t load lessons, won’t restart. The lessons are good, my sons enjoys them and is progressing. But going into song library to learn songs, they won’t even load! Super disappointing!!!

### 1/5 — YouTube much better than this

*2025-02-25, version 3.1.0*

Seriously? The beginning lesson says just use the c over g with a bar chord and it’s easy. There is no way anyone intermediate or lower can follow this and there is no help or explanation.

### 4/5 — Great app wish there was a bit more features.

*2025-02-23, version 3.1.0*

The only thing I wish was better is the ability to slow down a song as you learn it. 50% is way to slow. If there was more build up to playing a part full speed that would be awesome.

### 2/5 — User friendly

*2025-02-20, version 3.1.0*

Not that user friendly and was a little disappointed that a lot of the artists or even songs that I like are not listed !

### 4/5 — Needs more songs

*2025-02-08, version 3.1.0*

Needs more songs. specifically Red Hot Chili Peppers.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App isn’t up to par

*2026-07-13, version 3.2.0*

I’ve been using GT for a decade at least. I’ve learned so much and the instructors are fantastic. The website is good but the app is almost not worth having. The app should be better than the website at this point. The interface is terrible. This review isn’t for GT in general, that would get 10 stars! Please make the app useful. I tried it once and never went back.

### 1/5 — Great but needs a UI refresh

*2026-03-15, version 3.1.1*

Content is great, tutors are great, but this app is awful.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t keep track of your progress

*2026-02-24, version 3.1.1*

The guitar tricks App has several challenges but the most frustrating quirk is the App doesn’t keep track of your progress. Each time you open the App it thinks you’re starting from the beginning and that you haven’t completed any courses

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2026-02-14, version 3.1.1*

Can't actually test the app because it's freezing and then crashing on iphone

### 1/5 — Monkey

*2026-01-17, version 3.1.1*

It’s not loading

### 1/5 — Full access

*2025-12-29, version 3.1.1*

After having full access for years, they have bumped the price up and now I don’t have full access. It seems to me like they can increase the cost of full access at any time and deny those who have already paid for full access, access.

### 1/5 — Good lesson bad application

*2025-11-24, version 3.1.1*

Very laggy and full of error app

### 1/5 — You have to pay

*2025-10-20, version 3.1.1*

Please be clear that this app has a cost attached to it so we don’t waste time downloading it, every song I clicked it took me straight to purchase, this is why I rated it one star. I cannot commit unless I see if I like it or not and you 7 day trial is a hook and commitment

### 1/5 — Full access

*2025-06-03, version 3.1.0*

I have a full access subscription but the app is asking me to upgrade

### 1/5 — How to find me

*2025-04-27, version 3.1.0*

Don’t like the format

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Outstanding instructional

*2026-08-29, version 3.2.0*

This app is outstanding. It takes you from knowing nothing to playing fast. I love this coarse

### 5/5 — Terrific Beginners Guitar Course

*2025-11-20*

I’ve been looking for a course that takes me step by step from the beginning. There a several apps with nice people, but I love this app! I really feel I am learning something progressively without too much talk. Worth every penny!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-10-13, version 3.1.1*

Great app. Easy to navigate and clear progression of lessons. I started this app as a slightly experienced player, but never having started a formal training. The trainings start very basic, and are slow in their teaching so that it is easy to follow along. Easy to skip ahead to lessons that may be more your speed. And from what I have seen much more technical lessons that allow for deep progression of skills.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2025-08-09, version 3.1.1*

I had issues getting in when I signed up with Apple, but switching to an email and password fixed everything.
Customer service were amazing - and ridiculously fast!

Totally recommend!

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2025-06-13, version 3.1.0*

I love this app. Anders is an amazing guitar tutor. He covers so much but in perfect little steps to keep you improving with every lesson. I’ve played a long time but stagnated on my skills and what to play. I love these lessons because it shows me new chords, techniques etc which I then play around with when noodling around for fun. Highly recommend this app. Thanks Anders!

### 5/5 — Please update app already!!!

*2024-12-30, version 3.1.0*

Great website interaction but when it comes to the app, you guys finally need to update.

Please include “Tools” like the website offers to users, the best learning apps provide this.

The app should reflect excellence and be as useful as the website is.

Do better…

### 5/5 — Anders teacher

*2024-12-11, version 3.1.0*

As an old man who has been a pretty ordinary self taught and intermittent player for 60+ years, I can now say that structured learning is everything. Anders takes you through your new beginning with a style that resonates, and I now feel that I am on a good path and finally building the foundation of being the player that I realistically want to be.

### 5/5 — Quitter back at it

*2024-10-11, version 3.1.0*

I started guitar several years ago and the second kids hit and I could not find the time. Wanted to try again and was torn between Fender Play and Guitar Tricks. Considered personal lessons also but they are expensive.

Honestly it chose Guitar Tricks on an introductory offer that was affordable over Fender Play.

I have complete fundamental section and have learn more in a month that I did the entire time before. Anders is a great teacher and I dig his style. Guitar Tricks works and has kept me interested. I look forward to practicing.

### 5/5 — Absolutely fantastic

*2024-08-23, version 3.1.0*

From not knowing one end of guitar from another to enjoying playing as relaxing hobby. Learning something new every day, can flip back and forward for reminders.easy app to follow

### 5/5 — Good

*2024-07-11, version 2.2.0*

It’s an awesome app and free but if you want to learn songs and if your a beginner you only get a couple of basic lessons but overall it’s an awesome app if you want to catch up on guitar or if you want to start guitar for example I just started today and learned 2 chords and 2 Melodie’s
