### 3/5 — Content is great. App is horrible

*2023-04-23*

App always requires internet, even with download Ed content and is very slow and full of ads.

### 4/5 — It’s a great app only a few improves

*2021-08-02*

Guitar Pro .gpx files needed to download. And the backing tracks to be able to be downloaded all separately. Don’t fear people sharing they can’t share it all. It’s useful for us who play and pay and it’s creates buzz so we say get the magazine it’s great they give you in mag like you do now and they also give you gpx files with all their good tab and backing tracks are awesome. Just an extra few nuggets. You do a great job. Keep it up. Bravo 👏🏻

### 3/5 — No help

*2021-07-24, version 6.0.17*

I cannot get help

### 3/5 — Great mag. Needs access to extra content

*2021-02-16*

I guess it’s priced reasonably given you don’t have access to audio content that accompany the licks, techniques etc. would gladly pay extra if that content was available, it’s what makes the magazine a great learning tool.

### 2/5 — Slow to load

*2020-09-16*

App is Slow to load when using apple subscription

### 2/5 — Doesn’t play well with others and bookmarks are horrible

*2020-05-27*

Great to have access to the back catalogue of GT and the high quality tutorials that have always been a huge part of the magazine. The video element is embedded and works well. This app could be so amazing but the downsides below render it almost unusable to me. Having paid for the entire digital back catalogue it is beyond frustrating how clunky the app is. Major problems I have had are listed below.

Downsides:
The bookmark system is a mess, it’s impossible to sort them out into any system, and the preview pages are so tiny you can’t tell what bookmark you’re aiming for - they are sorted by issue title (why??) but with no discernible order (neither issue number or when you bookmarked them or anything) so if you have bookmarked many lessons good luck finding them again as they’re not sortable into published date or any other system. When in bookmark mode it doesn’t go from bookmark to bookmark, instead just continuing the issue in which the bookmark was found. Surely making personalised list of bookmarks with folders and subtitles would be easy and make the whole app more immeasurably more usable and appealing. Also a mode where you just browsed through your bookmarks without pause, so you could in effect have a private collection of favourite lessons. These things would be so simple to implement and I can’t understand why they’re not standard features

The worst bug in my opinion is that every time you minimise the app it seems to need to reacquire your purchases and verify itself - this takes about 10-15 seconds on my iPad Pro sometimes and this occasionally happens even if you don’t leave the app. Page turns when you’re flicking through a magazine seem to trigger it quite often.

Good luck if you’re using something like AmpliTube to play into your iPad while browsing the app - every time you make a change to your sound it seems like you lose your page and it redirects you to the front page of the app. Basic interactions with other apps are a mess.

It’s a shame that for the lack of a few features and presence of some bugs the app is so compromised. I would save your money and get a guitar pro premium membership instead where the app is a triumph instead of a trial.

### 5/5 — GT is the best Guitar Mag!

*2019-05-10, version 5.2.3*

Guitar Techniques is the best instructional magazine published in English. (Young Guitar Japan is also great, but obviously is in Japanese).

In the US, Guitar Player is mostly fluff, and Guitar World thinks so poorly of its audience that it doesn't even print music above TAB.

GT is loaded with licks, lessons, and full songs from cover to cover. The app provides playback and occasional video for each example. Its an amazing learning tool!

I would love to see a desktop OS X version of the app - so we can read it on the big screen :)

### 5/5 — The best no BS straight down to business Guitar Techniques

*2018-03-25, version 5.2.3*

I’ve purchased all guitar mags and even though we all look at the ads most of them are beefed up ads with no real content. This mag is the best one out there I know of. Every issue is packed with loads of guitar riffs and techniques. I’d have to say this is the best guitar mag for any guitar player.

### 5/5 — Best by Far

*2018-03-25*

The best magazine by far if you're on the learning guitar path and, particularly, if you're interested in learning about different and varied genres of guitar music. Massive amount of new material to get through each month.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2017-12-22, version 5.2.2*

Great app except it crashes a bit and has to be reopened. Like the interactive capabilities and varied lessons . Great app to have

### 5/5 — Great

*2017-11-28*

I recommend this to anyone who wants to improve- learn why you are playing what you are playing. The one time I had to contact the developers the response was excellent. All styles covered but the emphasis is towards blues rock

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2017-09-29*

Such a great mag. Love and learn so much from it. Huge fan

### 5/5 — Great value

*2017-03-19*

I was a subscriber to the magazine before the app and love having it delivered every month, now with the app I have all the issues stored here online. Such great value with all access and a lifetime of awesome information this is a must have for any guitarist at any level of any style. And trust me after subscribing you will be a guitarist of every style anyway, this app keeps me busy every weekend.

### 5/5 — Great app with interactive features, excellent resource!

*2016-10-25, version 4.9.5*

Previously had left a less than favorable review when having problems with the app on my iPad, several emails from support helped identify a problem and I'm happy to say the app has been working flawlessly for several months with all features. Quality of the lessons and artists featured monthly make this my favorite learning tool & well worth the cost. *Tip* if you see the promotion to buy all back issues, do it! Tons of lessons to choose from, and as a classic rock, blues, and southern rock enthusiast with interests in other styles I can say everything is well represented here.
Guitar Techniques is the best guitar lesson magazine available IMO, and having it on my iPad and iPhone to take anywhere? Priceless!

### 4/5 — Just dandy

*2016-10-02*

Does exactly what it says.
Only 4 stars because I'd like more video and it'd be brilliant to have all the sounds for back issues. Isn't there an archive I can access. Having fallen for the back issues ad I discovered that loads of them don't have associated sounds ... Feel a bit scammed !

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paid but no magazine

*2021-04-15*

Once again

### 1/5 — Great mag, but

*2020-10-01, version 6.0.6*

Keeps crashing under iOS 14

### 1/5 — App does not work if you purchased digital through any other vendor

*2017-12-15, version 5.2.2*

Garbage. Bought a digital download through Zinio. The zinio reader will not play audio examples. Even though I subscribe to this magazine, I can’t use the zinio subscription on this app. Will never be able to utilize audio examples. Bitter disappointment. Avoid this app and this company.

### 1/5 — app hangs and no longer can access old magazines

*2017-11-11, version 4.9.5*

App hangs since IOS 11. Can’t read any magazines nor download new ones.

### 1/5 — Fix the app

*2016-10-07, version 4.9.5*

I can't even open my downloads. My advice is don't get it. Huge disappointment. Great mag, lousy app.

### 1/5 — Unreadable previews

*2015-10-26, version 4.2.901*

Check out the Cooking Light app, now!

While not perfect, there one thing that sets this app millions of miles above the rest. FULL PAGE SAMPLES!!!

Because it doesn't have the micro-view offered by Zino and other Newsstand apps you can actually SEE what an issue offers. You almost want to buy every issue, matter of fact I'm getting a subscription!

Imagine-FX, Guitar Techniques, Official Xbox Magazine, Zino and Future Publishing, pay attention and see how it's done right. Bravo Cookling Light Magazine!

Who would think to take a great magazine like Guitar Techniques and put it in an app that is unreadable? The blurry cover and Table Of Contents offers no temptation to purchase the magazine or get subscriptions.

So you are left with searching for the issue online in hopes of finds a clear description of what is being offered that month. Too much work! Low tech app for a high tech mag.

What a shame!

### 1/5 — Good mag, horrible app

*2014-12-15, version 3.8.1*

I am sooo tried of trying to download an issue, it hangs, then I have to go though all of the trouble of deleting the app, turning off the app, reinstalling to get to it, and even then it sometimes hangs. Just not worth the trouble after a while.

### 1/5 — Buggy app - crashes when opening old editions

*2014-10-18*

As above. I've unsubscribed because of how many times it's crashed. Tried again with the latest version and nothing's changed. Content is good, however.

### 1/5 — Horrible customer support

*2014-07-28*

Barely half of the "enhanced" issues' sound files actually work. Wrote to customer support several times and have not heard anything back. Garbage!

### 1/5 — Broken

*2014-01-02*

I am a paid subscriber and i updated to the latest version. My subscription has been lost. Ive written to ask for help and was ignored. The current issue, i do not have, as Ive paid for it, but cant access it. Even if they do fix it, one day, their service s abyssmal.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The BEST guitar magazine.

*2023-03-08*

The best guitar magazine in the world, is made much more convenient and easier to read and access all audio and video files by this app. I just love it, and truly use it daily to learn, get inspired, and motivate myself to practice.

### 5/5 — Bassman42

### 5/5 — Excellent tutorial.

*2020-04-02*

GT is a must for learner & accomplished alike. You think that you know it all, then “BLAM.....” something new smacks you right in the chops. Well worth a read.

### 5/5 — Great Teachings

### 5/5 — If You Are Serious!

*2020-01-09, version 5.6.3*

I just discovered this magazine. I am so impressed. If you are a guitarist at any level, this will make you better, if you practice. The videos, the jam tracks, the analysis and the fun you will have makes it a must have for all guitarists!

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2019-12-28, version 5.2.3*

5 stars all the way!! Killer content, love that the sound bites and jam tracks are built into the articles. Great job!!

### 5/5 — Great ideas and content.

*2019-12-26*

One of my fav mags and especially awesome on iPad.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2019-10-13*

Don't leave reviews often but have to say I love this app

### 5/5 — Great app

*2019-07-05*

This is a great app. It allows you to display the magazines clearly one page per screen and has features with audio and video but I’m much more interactive than buying the magazine on paper. Back numbers are also available. All in all just great.
