## What is Guitar Theory Studio?

Guitar Theory Studio turns your phone into an interactive fretboard, chord book, and practice partner. Explore any scale, key, or CAGED shape on the Fretboard Explorer. Build and hear chord progressions with the Chord & Progression Builder — free for every user.

The progression builder comes with a library of 20 classic progressions — the ones behind songs like Don't Stop Believin', Stand By Me and Sweet Home Alabama — in any key. Every chord is numbered in both Nashville Number System notation and Roman numerals, so you can read a progression as theory and move it to another key instantly. All free, no account needed.

Unlock Premium to add Arpeggios — diatonic sweep patterns for every chord in a key, generated from the progression you actually built — and Practice Loop, a metronome-driven drill generator. Practice major, minor, harmonic minor and melodic minor as three-notes-per-string patterns across all seven positions, plus pentatonic and blues boxes, with ascend, descend and bounce sequences and unlimited saved presets.

Notes and chords are spelled the way the key is actually written — B flat in F major, not A sharp — so what you read here matches what you read anywhere else.

Whether you're learning your first scale or building a practice routine that actually sticks, Guitar Theory Studio keeps theory and the fretboard in the same place.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-17

• Ask is now free — type a question like "show me D Dorian" or "12-bar blues in E" and the right tool opens, already configured
• Drop tunings (Drop D and friends) in the Practice tool
• Fixed: Sign in with Apple or Google now returns you to the app instead of the browser
• Song library corrections and clearer answers when a song isn't covered

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-13

Nashville numbers have moved into the Chord & Progression Builder, and they are no longer behind Premium.

WHAT THIS MEANS
The separate Nashville Numbers tab is gone. Everything it did now happens where you actually build progressions - and it is free.

- A library of 20 classic progressions, built in. The ones behind Don't Stop Believin', Stand By Me and Sweet Home Alabama.
- Switch any progression between Nashville numbers and Roman numerals with one tap, in any key.
- Change the key and the whole progression transposes with it.
- See the relative major or minor of whatever key you are in.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
- Share a progression as a link, or export it as a chord sheet image with every shape drawn.
- Notes are now spelled the way the key is actually written - B flat in F major, not A sharp. This runs through the whole app: fretboard, chords, diagrams and the degree labels.
- Open the app straight into the fretboard. No signup wall before you have seen anything.
- The neck uses the full width of a tablet or a large phone instead of being capped.
- Fixes: audio cleanup, safe-area handling in full screen, and the chord sheet export now contains your actual progression rather than a single chord.

### 1.0.9 — 2026-08-05

• Sign in with Apple or Google — no password to create or remember.
• Chord & Progression Builder: the Duration and Inversion controls are now clearly labeled, and chords sustain for their full written length instead of cutting off early.
• Premium tools now show you what's inside before you subscribe, including a preview of the actual tool and a plain description of what it does.
• Clearer subscription details, including free-trial terms and the fact that one subscription works on your phone, tablet, and in any browser.

### 1.0.8 — 2026-08-03

• Try it free — explore the core tools without creating an account
• Chord progressions now loop on the Chords and Nashville Numbers tabs, with the sounding chord highlighted
• New Playback Tuning on the Practice, Chords, and Nashville tabs — play along in any standard tuning while the display stays in standard
• Your default key now applies instantly across every tool
• Polish and fixes throughout

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-29

Fixed a bug where the screen could get stuck zoomed in after logging in or using dropdown menus.
