Ben has reached out and helped me when l've been stuck. This is a great training tool especially having the videos in your pocket to revisit when out in the field. Using the app coupled with visiting local gundog trainers for 121's and group sessions has really brought out the best in both the handler and the dog. My training journey started in May, and I look back at then and now and see the results day by day it amazes me. We started using it at 8 months and since then we have had very positive results. The app has clear and consist video that go from the basic right through to complex training and combined with the monthly webinars I think it’s a great package that’s very good value. Having this app has been a life changer for me. I got my second WCS two years ago and have been using the app for my training. This season I have been out in the field picking up for 82 days, I have had the time of my life! The dogs have been amazing, all the training has paid off! There is still room for improvement, which I will be doing over the Summer, however I couldn’t have achieved any of this without the Gundog app. Thank you Ben. I am now looking to for another working cocker to add to the pack! ### 5/5 — Turned my dog’s training around *2021-12-16, version 1.2* To be completely honest, I was really struggling with training my three-year-old Labrador, Nimrod, before I found this app or knew anything about Ben Randall of Beggarbush Gundogs (BG) or his BG foundation methods. I had heard of Ben, because I am a journalist who writes about the countryside, and I had a vague recollection that he won the Cocker Championship two years in a row (in 2011 and 2012) with a liver-coloured cocker called Heolybwlch Fatty. So, I knew he was a world-class trainer, who had proven himself at the highest level, but I didn’t know anything about his specific methods and ethos. However, it wasn’t until lockdown and I was spending far too much time on my phone, particularly on Instagram, that I started to notice lots of videos of Ben and his dogs displaying the sort of steadiness and skills that, at that stage, I could only dream of achieving with my dog. I have owned lots of Labradors in my life and have really enjoyed going picking-up on shoots with them, but never managed to achieve great steadiness and control. I had lots of help with Nimrod, read countless books and went for 121 lessons with a local trainer and made some progress, although I never felt completely confident in my dog or myself. I’d get so far, then he’d start running in or dropping the dummy and messing about and I would feel such a fool and so useless that I often cried out of shame and frustration. Above all, I worried that I was letting my dog down. So, I decided to give the app and Ben’s proven, positive-rewards based methods a go and could hardly believe how quickly my dog responded. We still have some way to go and yes, the app can feel a little overwhelming at times, because it contains more than 300 videos of all sorts of exercises. However, I have found that, if I focus on perfecting a couple of exercises for a few weeks, it’s easy to work through the advice. The fact that you can message Ben at any time and take part in monthly webinars, where app subscribers can chat through any issues they are having, is a massive game-changer for me, too. The support of the online BG community also really helps. I can safely say that this app and Ben’s advice and encouragement have totally changed how I feel about my dog and our future. We have a much stronger, trusting partnership now and I enjoy our training sessions and days out shooting so much more. He’s also far more relaxed around the home. I cannot recommend this app enough, as I am confident that it will help anyone who wants to build a better and more fulfilling connection with their dog. ### 5/5 — Excellent Training Aid *2021-12-16* This app is just as useful for training pet dogs as working gundogs. The progression from basic training to more complex is very user friendly. It encourages you to progress at your own dogs’ pace. You also get a strong sense of achievement when you succeed which however complex your dog’s nature is, is attainable through the training videos which take you through each stage of a skill you want to teach the dog. The monthly webinar meetings are very informative as not only can you ask about a problem you may be having, you also learn from other people and their mistakes. It’s also nice in this time of limited socialising to meet people, albeit on camera, with similar interests. I have definitely benefited from using this app but more importantly so has my now 11 month old labrador pup and 5 year old dog. I have used it since I got the pup at eight weeks of age. Lots of content, and there are monthly webinars where you can have your questions answered and your training videos critiqued. No harsh handling methods, it’s all positive and reward based gundog training. Ben is too far away from where I live to go and see him for 1-2-1 training - this app is the next best thing. ### 5/5 — Couldn’t ask for better *2021-11-04* This app is absolutely amazing I couldn’t say anything bad about it. I got an 8 week old cocker and as much as I’ve trained dogs before you can sometimes forget the simple things. Well this app has kept me on track and reminded me to keep doing the right thing, never worrying to go back a step or two. The videos and instructions along with each one are ideal, short and to the point. After I saw the 2nd year purchase I reached out to cancel and get a refund without a single response. As to the App, You can find everything for free spread across numerous podcasts/channels. Best regards, Kristian ### 1/5 — Have paid but can’t access *2024-11-18* I’ve been subscribed to the app for a while and not had issues before but recently I have not been able to access the videos even though I am continuing to pay a monthly subscription (not cheap) I have tried contacting through the tech support form twice now but no response. I can’t find another way to contact them which is extremely frustrating and disappointing. ### 1/5 — Not actually positive gundog training *2021-10-09* A gentle correction based on fostering negative feelings to the extent the dog in the demo is displaying such avoidance and submissive behaviour but the trainer still continues with forcing the return/recall in order to apply the “BG correction”. Lots of avoidance behavior in the demo dogs. Better than force training but not quite there. Not the resource I hoped it to be. Demands payment every 15 seconds of every video. ### 2/5 — Limited information you can do something with *2024-09-20, version 1.7* There are a number for short 2-3 minute videos that show various exercises being performed but there is little to no information on how the exercises are actually taught or progressed. ### 2/5 — Lacking in content and clarity *2024-06-11* A good idea, but sadly lacking structure and the videos are far to brief and vague to be of any significant value for a nee gun dog owner. Extremely expensive considering the minimal content ### 2/5 — Good concept. Poor execution. *2024-02-27* This training method is a great concept. Unfortunately, the videos are all examples of dogs that have already learned or mastered the desired behaviors so there’s limited instruction on trouble shooting or luring the behavior to begin with. Also, the noise at the beginning g of each video is is incredibly loud and obnoxious compared to the volume of the audio in the video. ### 3/5 — Slow to Access / Content needs Improvement *2025-07-17, version 2.2.0* The videos are frustratingly slow to download or play. While the content could be good, the videos are fragments of clips rather than throughly thought out modules and therefore big gaps in the arc of instruction. The creators have plenty of knowledge of instructing dogs, but could package their videos in a more thoughtful and longer format approach to share their knowledge rather than what feels like a YouTube short. ### 3/5 — Not what I was looking for *2024-09-21* I found these videos to be lacking start to end teachings, and often picked up somewhere in the middle presuming he handler know what they are doing. The videos are also very retrieving based and not so much hunting based (although there is a little) so possible would suit a lab owner more. The training is also very formal, watched one of their reps introducing strict steadiness and directions at 14 weeks old is a bit more formal than where I’m looking to be with my pup who is a little younger ; I’d rather keep it light and fun. Good resource for some but not for me sorry. Going to use spaniel pro instead as videos are more comprehensive ### 4/5 — Great resource *2021-10-07* This is a good quality resource for anyone wanting to make progress with their Gundog. We have had a trainer in the past costing over £30 for a 25min session, so this is good value and always on hand. Also their is good support from the guys behind the app should you have particular queries or issues with your training. Also invites to regular online webinars where a lot of areas are discussed further. I would like to see additions to the app going forward, such as perhaps laid out training programmes for the total layman as to what you should be mastering first before moving on to another area with your dog. As well as perhaps ratings for exercises from beginner to advanced depending on where you are with your dogs progress. As I find the app layout a little odd and I sometimes struggle to know which video I should be working on. Overall a great app and one I hope will advance both mine and my dogs training. ### 5/5 — Simply The Best *2025-07-12* To truly master any dog training you don’t learn how to train a Dog! You learn every possible mistake there is to ensure you have the tools to correct them when you need to! So why not have the benefit of Ben Randall who over the many years of dog training has truly mastered the craft!! If it’s your first gundog like mine or your experienced and need to retrain or get the next dog perfect the BG App is with you throughout your journey. Every possible scenario is covered within the app with easy to follow step by step videos and like no other app you also get support, customer service, monthly webinars and even a extremely positive community forum to share experiences, ask for advice or questions and discuss with other users so you’re never alone. This is a whole package where you get a step by step process on how to train your dog with so many videos from the champion Master trainer Ben Randall. This app has changed our life completely and makes it pleasurable with our 6 Cocker Spaniels in their behaviour, their work ethic, their bond with us, their listening ability and much more.
