### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-03-18, version 5.1.0*

Great functioning app with high quality guidebooks of all Northeast climbing and beyond.

### 5/5 — Awesome platform that could do with some extra features

*2022-11-01, version 5.1.0*

Amazing platform for buying/posting guidebooks on the cheap. Really cool that each purchase supports the coalitions that develop the crags.

I love the app and wanted to suggest a feature!

Having a feature to see/rate quality/grade of each climb would be super cool and would help normalize grades across regions/crags (in the style of board apps like Tension and Moon). This would also help for comparing climbs within the same crag (for areas that suffer from inconsistent grading due to the development history).

### 5/5 — Best Guide app by far!

*2022-05-23, version 5.0.7*

This is the best guide book app by far! Without a doubt essential and is my go to for any trip out!

### 5/5 — Real people that really care

*2022-03-06, version 5.0.2*

I am the first to admit that I hate most tech and often have a difficult time navigating my way through any app in a real time setting. Needless to say I found myself having trouble with the gunks app after switching to a new phone. Luckily for me the gunks app has a very helpful support team. The got back to me immediately to help me resolve my issues and then followed up a few days later to make sure I was still good. With people like that maybe they can teach this old dog some new tricks. Thanks

### 5/5 — Reliable, efficient, not bigoted

*2022-02-13, version 5.0.2*

Gunksapp is my go-to app for any crag I explore. Its GPS navigation and topo lines are incredibly accurate and it’s easy to search name or by grade. I tend to purchase new areas early on bc they continually update the areas and it helps save money if you’d prefer. Gunksapps also slightly changes climb names that may be triggering for people of different backgrounds. I appreciate this added care. I genuinely recommend this to anyone who may be climbing in an area they’ve covered. Cannot recommend enough.

### 5/5 — Essential climbing resource

*2022-01-28, version 5.0.2*

This app is nigh on perfect. It does exactly what you want it to do: I can search for specific routes, or for routes of a specific grade and rating. The pictures and typos are incredibly high quality. I routinely browse an area when I’m planning a trip, and also use it on the ground to locate routes. I’ve even used it halfway up a route when I wasn’t sure if I was still on route. If I could only have one climbing guide, this is it!

### 5/5 — 5.15d of guide books

*2022-01-26, version 5.0.2*

Solid work from the Gunks+ team. Setting the bar high for other guidebook(s) services.

Keep it up!

### 5/5 — Best Gunks and Many Other Crags Guidebook!

*2022-01-19, version 5.0.2*

Simply one of the best implemented guidebooks.

Extensive updates for crags, GPS for climbs, GPS for crags incase you get lost, great photos for the climbs, simply hard to beat the implementation of the guidebooks.

### 5/5 — An absolute must for Gunks (and not only) climbers

*2022-01-16, version 5.0.2*

It is absolutely the best and most comprehensive climbing guide app for the Gunks and many other areas. It makes identifying and navigating the crag so much easier than any other available guide. Worth every penny

### 5/5 — Gunks Apps

*2022-01-15, version 5.0.2*

This is an absolutely essential app for climbing in the Gunks. Amazing photos that show you exactly where the routes go and top notch route descriptions. Highest recommendation. Get it!

### 5/5 — Best digital climbing app on the market!

*2022-01-14, version 5.0.2*

I love print guide books, but when it comes to digital guide book Apps look no further than Gunks App. Almost every single area I love to boulder at in the PA/NJ/NY is represented here.
Thanks for creating such a great and user friendly product.

### 5/5 — Concise

*2022-01-13, version 5.0.2*

Best direction and explanations for climbs at the Gunks!! Very clear. More helpful than mountain project

### 5/5 — Best Guidebook

*2022-01-11, version 5.0.2*

This is the guidebook to use for the Gunks! The GPS feature makes locating climbs a breeze and it’s great to be able to easily figure out which climbs are inaccessible due to peregrine falcon closures.

### 5/5 — This is THE Guidebook

*2022-01-08, version 5.0.2*

This is THE guidebook. Comparing this to other guidebooks/climbing apps is like comparing Google Maps on your phone to a MapQuest page you printed off from home. The app does a great job of being extremely detail oriented with descriptions, pictures, and a GPS feature to set you up for success in getting where you want to go, but it’s also considerate to not spray beta that may lesson the adventure.

HIGHLY recommend!

### 5/5 — The Gunks guidebook

*2022-01-06, version 5.0.2*

This is the best guidebook for the Gunks and surrounding climbing areas. The developers are local climbers and climbed all the routes for the app. The topo and route descriptions are really accurate.

### 5/5 — Love the gunks, hate technology

*2022-01-06, version 5.0.2*

The gunks must be pretty darn good for me to rather look at my phone than a print book.

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2021-11-24, version 5.0.2*

This app is a great resource for guidebooks especially in the north east. The customer support is awesome, they helped me quickly transfer licenses when I was in a pinch.

### 5/5 — GunksApps

*2021-10-15, version 5.0.2*

As a stand-alone guidebook the GunksApps series checks all the right boxes: clear topo lines, good route descriptions with just the right amount of beta, route history, and solid notes on safety/variations. Not to mention established trust as authors with a respected and long-term area history.

What GunksApps offers beyond standard guidebooks however is its portability and resistance to obsolescence. Assuming you normally carry your phone, the app adds nothing to your pack weight. And with frequent updates, routes are seamlessly added to your catalog.

As a climber what I really feel stands out or the App however are two aspects, both related to efficiency and safety.

It’s built-in GPS function helps you locate the start (and top) of your route - no more wandering the base and calling up “hey what route are you on” while thumbing through some mini phonebook full of tiny inscrutable topo lines. Also super helpful if you’re looking to drop your rope down a climb but cannot see to the base.

For safety, the clear descent beta for all routes is critical - something guidebook authors forsake in efforts to keep their paper guides small and pack-friendly. With GunksApps all descents are listed, so the stress of finding your way back down is gone.

If you’ve made it this far in the review then you likely need no more convincing - buy the app (it is also more environmentally-friendly) you won’t regret it.

In a few short years it has become commonplace in my climbing area, allowing folks to keep their paper guides at home next to the couch.

### 5/5 — What’s above 5 stars?

*2021-10-12, version 5.0.2*

Around the gunks having “the app” has become standard for the at-crag guidebook. This app has near-perfect topos, photos, and descriptions. The descriptions give good information to keep you on route and safe without ruining an onsight.

I’m happy to see such a user friendly and helpful service grow to provide information for more and more climbing areas.

Get the app!

### 1/5 — Don’t bother

*2019-06-11, version 4.02*

I just spent the better part of an hour and $9.99 trying to access a site on this app and finally gave up.I went through 7 or 8 access codes and none of them worked after I was told I was all ready registered. Tech support has stopped replying to me. All and all the worst app experience I’ve ever had. Now I actually have to give them a star when they don’t deserve that!

### 2/5 — Poor app navigation

*2022-11-10, version 5.1.0*

The app it’s self is horrible to navigate through. The route descriptions are great if you can figure how to redownload them otherwise you spend your money and hope you don’t have to redownload the app.

### 5/5 — Guidebooks are cool but have you ever used GunksApp?🤯

*2024-11-03, version 5.1.0*

What page was that route on? What was it called? Swamy, Swanson, Simon ….SAMSONITE! I was way off.

The app is a better reason to carry a phone to the crag than that’s obligatory topout selfie or ubiquitous belay stance picture of the leaders behind.

Detailed topos overlaying real world photographs of the cliffs. Certain locations allow realtime navigation to the route. Logging, ticking, rating. It’s all there, and then some. There really isn’t a reason NOT to have the app for your chosen location.

### 5/5 — The best digital guidebooks!

*2024-10-17, version 5.1.0*

The only thing better than their thorough digital guidebooks is their amazing customer service and their commitment to climbing! They use local authors, donate proceeds to climbing organizations, and will never be an ad-based or subscription model. Most of the digital world is pretty terrible but GunksApps is always good. Viva la GunksApps!

### 5/5 — My favorite

*2024-10-09, version 5.1.0*

Ad free, concise, thoughtful creators. Love the gunks community and this app that was developed to host other guides for areas as well. Creators always looking for feedback/ways to improve.

### 5/5 — Great app. By climbers. For climbers.

*2024-10-08, version 5.1.0*

App covers everything. Good topo, good pics, good route descriptions. quick, effective tech support. Can’t say enough about this awesome app!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-10-08, version 5.1.0*

Use the app ALL THE TIME! What more needs saying.

### 5/5 — Best climbing app on east coast

*2024-03-18, version 5.1.0*

First off, I needed technical support and got my problem of transferring my routes to a new email figured out in an hour. Second tho, this app allows me to explore my area and I have gotten my moneys worth many times over with how many times it’s gotten me to go outside climbing with me and my friends. Thanks for all y’all do

### 5/5 — The best climbing guide book platform

*2023-03-28, version 5.1.0*

I wish every climbing area was on gunks app. Easy to use. Simply designed. My favorite climbing app from my favorite climbing area. Get it!!

### 5/5 — The best I’ve found

### 5/5 — Digital is the Future

*2023-03-23, version 5.1.0*

The future of guidebooks is this right here. The convience of having a guidebook for a vast amount of areas in the palm of my hand has brought much ease when on multipitch routes or when trying to navigate a new boulder field. The platform offers a wide variety of guide to local areas while also providing affordable guides to destinations in surrounding areas. I enjoy the frequent updates as well! Can't wait to see what areas are next to be added!!

### 5/5 — Excellent app from the folks who wrote the guide book

*2023-03-20, version 5.1.0*

This app is a game changer for Gunks accessibility. It has all the beta you need to navigate the area and pick climbs for your level of skill. The app is updated regularly with new areas being added all the time it seems.

I rely heavily on this app for so many things. Be it my regular Gunks trips, my Powerlinez bouldering sessions, or ventures farther afield (looking at you, Hawaii boulders). This app sets a high standard for what a guidebook app should be.
