### 3/5 — Multiple light control

*2022-02-22, version 2.5*

Currently in order to control multiple lights you need to manually set all lights to a single channel. Set the color. Then change the channel manually of the lights which you want to stay that color. So if 2 of the lights are the color i want and all 3 are on channel 11. I will change the channel of the lights i want to keep to 9 then the remaining light can be changed to a new color.

The problem is when you change the channel in the app the channel of the light changes as well. This is pointless. The channel of the light should be changed manually with the buttons on the light. The channel of the app should only effect which lights are being controlled. It should not change the channel that the light is set to. Please fix and it will be a 5 star app.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2021-07-15, version 2.3*

Worst app ever - at least the knobs on the lights work

### 4/5 — Glitchy, but works!

*2021-05-25, version 2.3*

Figured it out despite the UX!
1st: Turn WiFi mode on one of the lights
2nd: Open WiFi and connect, password “gvm_admin”
3rd: Open app and it should show the color wheel immediately!

Channel number seemed irrelevant, but play around with that as well.

Super happy to have gotten it to work and it blows my mind that I can control the colors from an app. I originally thought I needed 10 different colored sheets, ha! Technology is amazing.

4-stars because eventually it worked 🥳

### 1/5 — App Doesn’t Connect... or seem to work!

*2021-05-19, version 2.2*

The physical Lights seem solid, but the app feature that remotely controls them won’t get past “connecting”.

What’s the deal?

The manual doesn’t explain how to solve this — don’t even know if this feature even works or if it’s a scam to sell the product :/

Seems to be a common problem — Can you please explain what’s going on or how to solve it?

For now 1 star.

### 1/5 — Registering app

*2021-05-10, version 2.1*

When I open up the app it doesn’t allow me to register with a username and password it just goes straight to dials that don’t do anything. Please help

### 1/5 — Light won’t connect to the app

*2021-04-11, version 2.1*

I tried for a while and my gvm desk mount led won’t connect to the app even though I successfully connected to the light’s wifi.

### 1/5 — SCAM

*2021-04-01, version 2.1*

What a horrible feeling to have been scammed...as others have described, can’t get past “connecting...” And wow, only 8 reviews. What does that tell you - wish we would have known before purchase. The name of the app is even SPELLED wrong in the instruction booklet from our Amazon purchase (whole thing riddled with spelling errors like it was slapped together in 2 seconds)...??! How do you spell the name of your own app wrong...what a joke...clearly NOT from the USA or anywhere that actually speaks english as falsely indicated...shame shame shame...

### 2/5 — How to set each light to separate colors in the app

*2021-02-28, version 2.1*

I bought the GVM 50RS RGB led light panels. I can use the GVM Easily app to control them as master/slave and they cast the same color. But I want to set each light on a separate channel and control each light separately with different colors in the app. I’m not able to find instructions how to do that. I also don’t see a way of saving settings for each light. Has anyone figured out how to do this in the app?

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2021-02-18, version 2.1*

The actual app you download from the QR code in the manual does not match any of the steps you are told to do in the manual. There is no way to actually connect and choose your lights. No options. The app does not look like the screenshots from the manual. So if you’re looking for lights that actually connect by app these are not what you are looking for.

### 1/5 — App is crap

*2021-02-13, version 2.1*

This app doesn’t work and provides no guidance on how to troubleshoot.

### 2/5 — App won’t connect to 2 lamps

*2021-02-09, version 2.1*

How can I connect to the two lamps that I’ve purchased? The website and the app shows 2 different screens. This app only connects to 1 lamp, not 2. Instructions do not explain how to do this. App does not give option to switch device as the website shows. Please advise / correct.

### 1/5 — Pointless app

*2021-02-07, version 2.1*

The main feature of this app is to be able to Control 2 lights at one time through this app. This failed to do what it promised. Such a waste of time. Don’t download. Tech support offered no help or remedy to this issue. Don’t waste your time.

### 1/5 — Glitchy WiFi Hog

*2021-01-31, version 2.1*

Main way to control it is via a WiFi connection direct to the lights themselves. In theory, this means you don’t need an internet connection, but it also prevents you from USING your phones internet while connected to the lights (which connection usually needs to be reset every 10-20 minutes anyway bc it disconnects on its own). So if you want to play music on your phone or control any other features through your phone at the same time as using the lights, your screwed. You’ll end up wasting time connecting and reconnecting over and over.

The lights themselves work great. But without a reliable app to support them, it’s mostly a waste.

### 2/5 — Gum 480-LS

*2021-01-14, version 2.0*

Bought a set of two. Everything works good except for I could not set up master/slave. Option on app does not work.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Never got it working.

*2025-01-27, version 2.9*

I own three GVM 800D lights. I was not able to get this app to sync with any of them. I can't tell you how great the app is as a remote for the lights because it simply won't connect to them. It's garbage. The lights seem to work just fine except for the fact that the app will not connect to them. This app is worthless.

### 1/5 — Frustratingly Frustrating

*2024-12-08, version 2.9*

It might seem like a First World problem that I can’t just get up and switch the lights on and off manually, but because of where my lights are positioned it’s very, VERY inconvenient to do so. If only this app were a reasonable alternative. It’s not.

Instructions for my lights say that the app should have a Switch Device setting option. It doesn’t. There’s a channel selector, but apparently that’s not relevant to my lights, so why does that appear? And there’s a headset icon that, when tapped, just locks up the app for 30 or so seconds.

Of course, I echo the complaints of other reviewers: it’s extremely frustrating that each light needs to be on a separate ad hoc network to be controlled. I’ll go further and say that it’s ridiculous for these lights to be controlled over an ad hoc network instead of by Bluetooth. Changing networks three times to simply turn them on and return to my Internet connection (and doing it again to turn them off) leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Finally, let me just suggest to the developer that they pay a small stipend to somebody for whom English is their first language and clean up the app.

### 1/5 — The app is pointless

*2024-10-12, version 2.9*

The app’s interface is absolute garbage and so is the Wi-Fi connection feature to connect to the light. While I’m able to connect to one light, there is no way to connect to multiple lights. Other reviews have pointed out the same thing and I was hoping that this issue had been fixed. The app shows different channels, but there is no way to set the lights to a specific channel and have them all connect since they each have their own Wi-Fi signal. I’ve also heard. About being able to slave the other lights to the master, but the lights that I purchased don’t have any kind of mode button or a way to know which one of the three lights is a master.. If you just bought these lights and can return them, do it and save yourself the headache.

### 1/5 — The worst APP ever!

*2024-06-30, version 2.9*

Please overhaul this app; it's unreliable, connecting inconsistently. It's frustrating to wait for a stable connection or reconnect to WiFi. Why should I need this much patience for it to function?

Invest in redesigning this outdated app. Allocate more funds and hire skilled developers. Realize the app's antiquity and consider adding a convenient home Screen widget for quicker light control access, or at least offer a purchasable remote.

### 1/5 — The App Makes the Lights Worthless

*2024-02-21, version 2.9*

When I picked up the GVM 50RS lights, I was excited to begin creating with them!

I mounted them up on a truss since they would be accessible with the app!

Well, they are completely worthless since the app is the single worst user experience I have ever had to deal with. 45 minutes of refreshing WiFi, changing networks, restarting my phone and tablet, all trying to get this app to work.

And the worst possible outcome is if you get the lights to turn on…because then you have to do the same wrestling for almost an hour to get them to reconnect so you can turn them off.

It’s truly bewildering how something so common (remote connection to a light) is so utterly broken. If I could return my lights, I would… but they are actually worth less than nothing since they cost me client’s time and money.

I actually threw these in the trash and ate the loss. Avoid at all costs.

### 1/5 — App is glitchy and won’t connect

*2023-05-20, version 2.8*

I’ve been trying to connect my lights for the past 4 hours without success. I regret buying these lights cause this app is garbage and no one seems to be working on it.

### 1/5 — Wow!

*2023-05-11, version 2.8*

I paid nearly $400 for a set of these a few years back. I only recently opened them to try using for live streaming. I can’t find ANY helpful information how to get them to work properly. Tried BOTH these GVM mobile apps. I’m just SHOCKED for the cost they are not more user friendly. The connection making its own wifi? Seems just like a bad design. I am stuck with one color brightness and no way to navigate or use different “effects” as advertise on that page in the menu I can’t switch from “Lightning” Very disappointed I thought I had some high quality lights put up for when I needed them.

### 1/5 — Horrible Wi-Fi connection

*2023-01-19, version 2.8*

It doesn’t even attempt to connect

I’ve watched many YouTube videos and they all say the same.
Please for the love of lights fix this

### 1/5 — Please take a note from Sidus Link

*2022-11-03, version 2.7*

This is extremely annoying to use with the Wi-Fi connection. Some sort of Bluetooth connect would be great. Sidus Link does this extremely well.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time and money on GVM

*2021-07-29, version 2.3*

If I could give 0 stars I would! Even -5 stars would be perfect! The worst app I’ve ever came across. It’s pretty simple to create an app that just connects to the same brand lights I bought! Nope. The instructions do not match the app. A Chinese knock off desk instruction Manual is clearer than this 💀 I recommend Govee! They have no issues and actually works. Can’t wait to get my money back from GVM. BEWARE

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Update app does work not on iPhone 14 Pro Max works on iPad Pro

*2024-06-17, version 2.9*

App was connected to iPhone 14 Pro Max an did not work I put the light panels away an something said try on the iPad Pro 12inch 6 gen it worked on this device. So I tried the other light it worked as well.
App developer check for iPhone connection

### 5/5 — Connection hints are very helpful

*2022-12-07, version 2.8*

A connection hints will pop up at startup. Follow its steps, and I can quickly control my light. Thank you

### 5/5 — Just connect to WiFi

*2022-11-28, version 2.8*

Just connect the mobile phone to WiFi, and my light can be controlled.

### 5/5 — Good product, can't put it down to describe

*2022-11-22, version 2.8*

It’s good,I can control my lights

### 5/5 — The lights are so cool

*2022-11-18, version 2.8*

I like these lights, and this App helps me control them well.

### 5/5 — Awesome Lights and App Is Fine

*2020-12-15, version 2.0*

It took me nearly 2 hours to finally figure out how to get the lights working with the app, but it was my own mistake. I watched 10 different YouTube tutorials on how to get the app to work and despite my best efforts, I couldn't figure it out.

But then I realized, even though my phone showed me connecting to the GVM_LED Wifi network, I couldn't get a connection through the app. And I sat for a minute and it hit me. I have a VPN client that automatically enables when I connect to an untrusted network. And in this case, the GVM_LED network was not trusted, and the app couldn't connect. Once I trusted the network, the app worked like a champ.

The other not intuitive thing is that you don't control multiple lights at the same time from the app. No, once you connect, you can rename the WiFi network associated with the light you are connected. And then, to switch between different lights, you simply connect to the associated WiFi network. You have to connect to each light separately to make adjustments.

Once I got past these issues, changing the settings of the light through the app was way easier than using the controls on the back of the light. I've been able to dial in my studio lighting and I'm very pleased.

### 5/5 — Works great!!

*2020-12-11, version 2.0*

You can control each light individually in the app.
1. Put all lights on channel 1
2. Put all them on slave mode except the one you want to hook up to the WiFi
3. Once WiFi is connected set the slave lights to desired color.
4. Change the channel on master light to 2 and set master light to what ever color you want.

### 5/5 — Works fine

*2020-10-03, version 2.0*

I have the GVM-Y30D160 10.6” LED Video Light and it works fine with this light. I can lose the WiFi connection if I’m too far away but otherwise works as expected. I’m not sure why there are so many bad reviews. The UI isn’t that great but hey—it works!

### 5/5 — I wrote a bad review before my apologies

*2019-09-06, version 1.0*

These lights are the best. Especially when you can control them with your phone. I will update this review in 1 month and see if everything is still working good.

### 4/5 — Private MAC address kills connection

*2021-08-20, version 2.3*

I love your products this app only has one tiny flaw: iOS automatically connect with a private MAC address every time it refresh his Wi-Fi. By default, this MAC address switching breaks the conversation between the light and the iOS device. I found control to be very smooth when connected, but the light could jump back to a pre-app-modified-state when the iOS device reconnected. Fix that tiny bug and you’re golden. Respond to this review when it is fixed and I will be your first five star review. As an app developer myself, I can’t imagine giving one star to this over such a tiny flaw. Keep up the great work.
