## What is GYST?

Wear what you own. Pass on the rest. Waste less.

GYST is a wardrobe manager built to keep clothes in use and out of landfill, with a local marketplace for the pieces you're finished with. Know what you own, get more wear out of it, and pass along what you don't reach for.

LESS WASTE, LESS AI
- Every piece you keep wearing is one you don't buy again
- Unworn pieces are surfaced so forgotten clothes get a second life
- Pass things on locally, with no shipping and no packaging
- We're trying to rely on AI less. Every outfit suggestion is built on your phone, and we accept a slightly less polished suggestion when it lowers the environmental cost
- We keep AI where it makes something far better, like identifying an item from a photo, and you can switch it off in Settings
- We think technology is best spent cutting waste, so that is where we aim it

YOUR WARDROBE, CATALOGED
- Add clothes by photo, with AI detection and categorization
- Bags, hats and scarves are cataloged too, and counted as part of an outfit
- Filter for shirts and get every shirt, not only the ones named that way
- Build and save outfit combinations
- See any outfit laid out head to toe, hat down to shoes
- Create capsule wardrobes for travel or a season
- Log what you actually wear

DAILY OUTFIT HELP
- An outfit for today, put together on your phone from your wardrobe and the forecast
- The temperature and conditions sit under it, so you can see what it dressed for
- Own a few bags or head coverings, and GYST starts building them in
- Like a suggestion or say it's not for you, and the next one lands closer
- Tell the Stylist the occasion and how dressy it should be, and it builds an outfit from your wardrobe and the weather

INSIGHTS
- The pieces you wear most, and the ones you never touch
- The colors you actually wear
- Outfit pairings you keep coming back to
- What your closet is missing, and what to look for

SWAPMEET, YOUR LOCAL MARKET
- List clothes you're done with to sell, swap or give away free
- Browse what's on offer near you
- Start a swap circle with friends, and their listings show first
- Invite friends and share listings from the app
- Message buyers and sellers directly
- Meet up locally, no shipping and no packaging

SwapMeet costs nothing to use, and always will: GYST never handles the payment, so there is no cut to take. The app is free to download, with no advertising and no data sold.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.0 — 2026-10-05

Every outfit GYST suggests is now built on your phone, with no AI. That covers today's outfit, the Stylist and the Weather tab, which now shows three picks from your own wardrobe for today's weather. We are trying to rely on AI less, and we would rather give you a slightly less polished suggestion than spend the energy a model takes. The "Build outfits on this device" switch in Settings is gone, because there is no other way now. AI is still used where it does something far better, reading an item's details from a photo, and you can still turn it off.

Swap circles. Start one for friends, family or the office, or join one with the code someone sends you, from the people button in SwapMeet. Listings from people in your circles show first, with a Your Circle badge. Members see each other's display names and nothing else; a circle holds no location.

Give things away. A listing can now be Give Away, free to a good home, alongside For Sale, For Trade and Sale or Trade, and Browse has a Free filter. Clothes you haven't worn in a while offer Give and Swap first, with selling still a tap away.

Invite a friend from Settings or About, and share any listing from its page through your phone's share sheet.

Listing photos are resized before they upload, so they go up faster and take less storage.

Some names changed to match. The AI Stylist is the Stylist, Wardrobe Gaps is Wardrobe Balance, and five badges were renamed: Outfit Explorer, Suggestion Seeker, Stylist, Well Rounded and Secondhand Seeker. Badges you already earned are kept. The Privacy Policy and Terms say what AI is used for now.

### 2.0.5 — 2026-10-03

Signing up no longer says it failed when it worked. If GYST could not save
your profile at the moment you created an account, it showed Signup Failed,
or an error after Sign in with Apple, even though the account had been made
and you were already signed in. The account now carries on as normal, and
the app fills in what it can of the profile the next time you open it.

Signing up with an email that already has an account says so, and a Log In
button takes you to the login screen with that email filled in. A wrong email
or password when logging in gets a plain explanation too. Both used to show
an error message meant for developers.

When an outfit is laid out in two columns, the shoes now sit under the
trousers instead of starting the second column. The shirt and trousers stack
straight down from the top, without the band of empty space that used to
open up between them. A hat, bag or jacket is no longer partly covered by the
photo below it; only the clothes worn together down the body still meet.

Today's outfit reads the weather more carefully. Rain on the forecast now
brings a rain jacket and closed shoes, a cold morning with a warm afternoon
gets a layer you can take off, and a hat and sunglasses come out on high-UV
days if you own them. It also notices how recently you wore each piece, and it
knows all 45 colours the colour picker offers, so navy, tan, khaki and brown
count as neutrals instead of clashing.

The Stylist in Insights now builds its outfit on your phone, from the occasion
you give it and the formality you pick, from very casual to black tie. Photo
identification still uses AI.

### 2.0.4 — 2026-09-24

GYST now notices patterns. When you tap AI Identify on something new, it fills in whether the fabric is striped, checked, floral, printed or plain, and a new Graphic option covers a logo or picture across the front. Every item used to start out as Solid and stay that way unless you changed it, so nearly everything in the app was recorded as plain. The clothes already in your wardrobe have been looked at again, and any pattern you had chosen yourself was left alone.

Filtering by colour finds everything in that colour. The menu used to list every color name ever typed, so Gray and Grey were separate choices and each one found about half of your grey clothes. It now offers the color families your wardrobe actually contains, and something in two colors, like red and white, turns up under both. Search works the same way: grey finds charcoal as well. Colour names already saved were settled on one spelling, and the few with a pattern written into them, like "Black and White Floral", keep the pattern in its own field now. Insights counts colours the same way.

A photo that still has a bed or a table behind it can be fixed in place. The wand button on an item's photo removes the background just as it would when you add something, and if it cannot pick out the garment it leaves the photo as it was. A few photos already in wardrobes that had kept their background have been cleaned up this way.

Rotating a photo re-measures the garment, so it sits properly in outfits instead of keeping the shape it had before it turned. On items whose photo had been replaced at some point, the wardrobe grid also kept showing the old way round. It turns with the photo now.

Deleting a garment, or replacing or rotating its photo, now deletes the old photo as well, unless an outfit, capsule or listing still shows it. Those photos used to stay in storage after you had finished with them.

Add Item Manually works. It opened a form that could never be saved, because every item needs a photo and the form had nowhere to add one. The form asks for the photo itself now, and the rest is yours to fill in.

Turning off AI Insights in Settings now stops everything that uses AI. AI Identify on an item's page, the AI picks on the Weather tab, and today's outfit when set to use the model all went ahead with the switch off. While AI is off, today's outfit is built on your phone and the Weather tab says so.

Delete Account works. It stopped partway, leaving the account and much of its data behind, including photos, listings and messages.

Block User on SwapMeet now blocks. The person can no longer message you, in that conversation or about any other listing, their listings are hidden from
you, and you can unblock them from the conversation.

On SwapMeet, filtering by type finds listings again, and Dresses is one of the types. An exchange completes whichever of you confirms last; it failed when the buyer was second. A seller's rating comes from the ratings people have left, one per person.

Dresses can be filtered as dresses in your wardrobe and filed as one from an item's page, and the category chips when adding to a capsule find things.

Reminders, under Notifications in Settings, turns off the evening reminders. It replaces Marketplace Messages, a switch for alerts that were never sent. The Weather tab shows °C when Celsius is on.

Updates from GYST, also under Notifications, tells you now and then about new features. It is off unless you turn it on. Rate GYST on the App Store, in Settings, opens the review form.

The first time you use an AI feature, GYST says what it sends and asks first. The Privacy Policy, and the messages that ask for your location and your birthday, now say where each one goes.

Photos added or replaced from an item's page keep their shape; they were being stretched into squares. Your wardrobe and other small pictures load lighter previews, so they appear sooner.

### 2.0.3 — 2026-09-19

Filtering your clothes works now. Choosing Tops and then Shirts used to find
the handful of items tagged with the bare word "Shirt" and leave out every
button-up, polo, flannel, denim and western one you own. It finds all of them.
The second menu lists kinds of garment instead of one entry per garment, so
Tops offers eight choices rather than fifty-six, and Bottoms offers Jeans,
Shorts, Skirts, Leggings, Joggers and Pants rather than every phrase anyone
has ever used for a pair of trousers. Nothing in your wardrobe was renamed or
moved to do this, and anything the app cannot place goes to Other instead of
vanishing from the list.

Outfit suggestions read your clothes by whole words. A bodysuit was being
treated as formal because the word ends in "suit", which is what a blazer
scores, so nine casual tops were steered toward dress shoes and away from
jeans. A waffle knit shirt counted as the lightest thing you own, on a par
with a tank top, because the letters of "t shirt" appear in the middle of its
name. Twelve items were being read as something they are not.

The parts of the app that use AI now share a colour. The Weather tab in
Insights is the same rust the Stylist tab has always been, and so is the
shortcut to it from your home screen. Both of them send your wardrobe to a
model, and only one of them looked like it did. Inside the Weather screen,
the AI-picked outfits wear that rust too, while the dressing guide and the
seasonal suggestions below them stay blue, because those are worked out from
the forecast and what you already own.

Today's outfit now says which one made it. A rust edge down the left of the
card means a model put it together. No edge means your phone did. That is the
"Build outfits on this device" setting under AI in Settings, and until now
nothing on the card told you which way it was set.

The Weather screen shows the forecast as soon as it has one. Everything on it
used to wait for the AI picks to come back, so the temperature, the dressing
guide and the outfits from your own wardrobe were all held up by the one part
that leaves your phone and the one part that can fail. Those appear straight
away and the AI section says it is working rather than claiming there is
nothing to show. The paragraph at the top explaining the screen is gone.

Screens you leave and come back to no longer re-read your whole wardrobe, and
photos stay decoded instead of being rebuilt every time you scroll past them.

In Insights, an item whose colour is written as more than one, like "Red,
White, Blue" or "Black/Yellow", shows all of them in its dot instead of
picking whichever the app happened to check first. Gold, Maroon, Ivory, Teal
and a dozen others show their own colour rather than a grey circle.

### 2.0.2 — 2026-09-18

Today's outfit is now put together on your phone instead of being sent away to be written. It is quicker, and it is what you get unless you turn it off in Settings. The AI stylist is still there for when you want to ask for something in particular.

The card shows the temperature and conditions it dressed for, and the whole date rather than just the day of the week.

Tapping Another gives you another outfit. It had been rebuilding the same one.

If you wear a bag or a hat most days, one turns up in the suggestion. And saying "not for me" is no longer only noted: that piece stops being offered unless it is the only thing that fits.

Your clothes have better names. Where the app had recorded a plain "Shirt" or "Pants" it now keeps what it actually saw, so a denim shirt says denim shirt. This went back over the items already in your wardrobe, not only new ones.

Photo tagging picks category names a little better. The instructions sent with your photo were more than twice as long as they needed to be, and shortening them made the names slightly more accurate rather than less.

The Terms of Service now says what the app costs. Nothing today: no paid tier and no in-app purchase. If paid features ever arrive you will be told in the app first, and nothing you already use will start costing money without your agreement.

The commitments under About now name the ones that will hold whatever else changes. No advertising, nothing about your wardrobe sold to anyone, and no commission on SwapMeet, which GYST could not take even if it wanted to because it never handles the payment.
