## What is HA LiveKit?

HA LiveKit connects Home Assistant with iPhone Live Activities.

Create real-time Lock Screen and Dynamic Island activities from your Home Assistant automations, entities, and Apple Shortcuts.

Use it for:

• Door and window status
• Washing machine progress
• Robot vacuum cleaning status
• Lights, plugs, and switches
• Climate and temperature sensors
• Energy usage
• Timers and custom states

HA LiveKit works with a Home Assistant custom integration and supports entity-based actions. This means your automations can use an entity ID and automatically read its friendly name, state, unit, and progress value.

You can start, update, or end Live Activities from:

• the HA LiveKit iOS app
• Home Assistant automations
• Apple Shortcuts

Features:

• Lock Screen Live Activities
• Dynamic Island support
• Home Assistant entity-based automations
• Apple Shortcuts actions
• Background update support
• Demo mode
• Diagnostics for connection and activity status
• HACS custom integration for Home Assistant

Requirements:

• Home Assistant
• HA LiveKit Home Assistant integration
• iPhone with Live Activities support
• Notifications and Live Activities enabled

HA LiveKit is designed for Home Assistant users who want fast, glanceable smart home status on iPhone.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.1 — 2026-08-17

This update makes background Live Activities far more reliable:

- Re-running Set Live Activity with the same Activity ID now always updates the same activity
- Dismissed activities are cleaned up automatically the next time the app opens
- Updates sent while an activity is still starting are no longer lost - the newest content appears as soon as it is ready
- Clearer, more helpful error messages in Home Assistant

Tip: use one stable Activity ID per entity.

### 2.1 — 2026-08-12

HA LiveKit 2.1 adds secure controls to Live Activities.

• Optionally add On and Off buttons when creating a Live Activity for a light, switch, or input boolean.
• Control supported entities directly from the Lock Screen or expanded Dynamic Island—without opening the app.
• Every command requires local device authentication and is tied to the exact activity, entity, and Home Assistant instance you approved.
• Improved Live Activity layouts and entity icons for lights and switches.
• Includes stability and compatibility improvements.

Action buttons are opt-in and off by default.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-07-20

Version 2.0.1 fixes Live Activity starts from Shortcuts and personal automations. “Start Custom Live Activity” and “Start Entity Live Activity” now work without opening HA LiveKit, while still starting instantly on your iPhone.

### 2.0 — 2026-07-14

HA LiveKit 2.0 is our biggest update yet.

• Redesigned Home, Create, Health, and Settings.
• Preview Live Activities on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island before starting them.
• More Quick Presets plus safe Home Assistant automation YAML generation, review, copy, and sharing.
• A new Health Center and dedicated redacted Debug Logs.
• Important Notices and update reminders.
• Secure Relay Auth v2 with administrator device controls.
• Major improvements to connections, caching, background updates, and reliability.
• Modern app icon support across iOS appearance modes.

Important: Update the HA LiveKit integration to 2.0.0 in HACS and restart Home Assistant for full compatibility.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-07-07

• Fixed background Live Activities not starting: the relay configuration
was missing from the previous beta build, preventing the app from
  registering for push-based Live Activities.
• After updating, open the app once so it can re-register with the relay.
• No other changes — Home Assistant connection and foreground Live
  Activities work as before.
