### 2/5 — Buggy navigation

*2025-05-20*

App version 5.90 (May 2025) navigating back from wherever you are (article, menu, sub-menu, reading list, etc.) navigating you double back. It makes it a super bad experience.
Such an obvious and easy to detect bug shouldn’t have made it into production. Please improve your app quality.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the inconvenience.
This bug will be fixed in the upcoming version.

### 2/5 — IS THERE A WORLD BEYOND ISRAËL

*2025-02-08*

It seem since quite a bit of time that for Haaretz the world is just something which hardly exist beyond Israel and if so revolves around Israel. Not good for a great newspaper.

### 4/5 — Why is the loading screen still a flashbang when the app is set to "dark mode"

*2024-12-11*

Jesus Christ

### 4/5 — Cookies

*2024-09-29, version 5.69*

Need to set the cookies every couple of weeks. No way to reject all so you have to do it individually.

@Haaretz why can’t this be adjusted.

### 4/5 — Good information source, but…

*2024-06-01*

Every time when opening the app I need to confirm the data protection settings. All "legitimate interest" is ON. There is no option to switch off all in one "Refuse" button, but to agree all is possible. I need to scroll down and switch off all separately, there are dozens.
I am a subscriber and pay monthly.
Please add a button: Disagree all.

**Developer response:** Hi, could you please send us a screenshot of this to mobile@haaretz.co.il? Thanks

### 2/5 — Great news outlet but awful app

*2024-05-22*

App does what it wants. I keep getting news flashes of old articles I already read. I also can easily navigate to certain articles. There seem to be 2 main options for navigation but it’s hard to find your way away from those 2 pages. Can’t always open images up to see captions. Sometimes when you click on a news flash in the live updates it takes you to whatever it fancies showing you. The writing gets 4.5 out of 5 but the app gets 0!

**Developer response:** Hi and thanks for the feedback. You can navigate by:
1. Swiping between articles & sections.
2. Open the sections menu (the button on the bottom of the screen) and choose which sections you would like.
3. Open and article and choose another recommended article.

Regarding the "news flashes" - guessing you mean push notification... so basically iOS accumulates push notifications and you can open them whenever you want. Sometimes the push title does not match the article's title (it is very common in news apps) - but still it's the same article.

For any other issue please don't hesitate to contact us: mobile@haaretz.co.il

### 1/5 — Cannot cancel subscription

*2024-02-06*

Heads up you cannot cancel your subscription!

**Developer response:** Hi, that is not true. Here's Apple's guide on how to manage your subscriptions:

### 1/5 — What happened to the iPad app?

*2023-12-27, version 5.34*

Very annoyed that I’m being forced to this app for an update from the iPad app. This one is not optimized for the iPad.

### 2/5 — Pop up ads seriously interfere with reading

*2023-12-14*

Paid subscriptions to this paper don’t guarantee you can read it. The app is a problem. It is impossible to read an article from start to finish without pop up ads blocking news content.

**Developer response:** Hi, our subscribers don't get ads during reading. Please send us the ad you saw in an article and we will investigate it: mobile@haaretz.co.il
Thanks!

### 1/5 — Great paper - terrible app

*2023-12-03, version 5.26*

The app is one of the worst apps I’ve ever encountered. It freezes constantly. Feeds up endless ads. And won’t let me sign into my subscription - so I am constantly bombarded with pop-ups prompting me to subscribe. Absolutely terrible! Aren’t Israeli some of the best technologists in the world?? Why can’t you build a better app?

### 3/5 — Disappointing Price Alteration

*2023-11-13*

I was considering subscribing to Haaretz as one of the few voices of relative sanity on the Israeli media scene. The annual subscription listed on the App Store blurb was $129.99.
However, on downloading the app, I noticed a ‘Special Offer’. The price for a subscription had suddenly jumped to $199.99 per annum!
This reeks of exploitation in the current terrible circumstances, so no thank you.
I can read the stories I wish to read online for free by submitting my email address when asked to do so, and turning off my ad blocker. Problem solved.

**Developer response:** Hi and thanks for the feedback. The app displays the prices from the store. We verified that. Could you please e-mail us screenshots with these prices you mentioned?

### 1/5 — Impossible d'écrire son login

*2023-10-29*

Cliquer dans le champ approprié ne declenche pas le clavier
Ai supprimé et reinstallé sans effet.

iPhone XR iOS 16.7

Appli inutilisable

**Developer response:** Hi and thanks for the feedback. The login works fine. Simply tap the fields' text, for example: "Email address". We can also send you a video to demonstrate. Please send contact details to: mobile@haaretz.co.il

### 3/5 — Great Paper. Annoying app

*2023-04-19*

Haaretz is a bold and crucial voice of journalism and free speech, but the app itself has become very annoying. Although I pay (a lot) to subscribe, I have to view an annoying ad covering everything each time I open the app. It’s often hard to figure out how to dismiss the ad. This is a bad way to treat your subscribers.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Nervig

*2026-06-15*

### 1/5 — Good content, bad app

*2026-04-15, version 5.108*

Unacceptable to have pop up ads before going to content for such an expensive subscription. Half the time the pop up cannot be closed. How is it that a country that can precisely target Iranian generals in their beds can’t build a decent app?

### 1/5 — Pop up ads? Really?

*2026-03-24*

I pay about $20 a month for a Haaretz subscription in both English and Hebrew. So please explain to me why I have to sit through pop-up gaming ads to access articles that I’ve already paid to read like they’re Grindr profiles. Although I hate them, I understand and can tolerate the periodic banner ads (journalism ain’t cheap!). But timed pop-up ads? That’s a slap in the face to your paying subscribers. Please don’t waste our time like that. It only gives us more time to contemplate unsubscribing.

### 1/5 — Non-Accessible on iPad

*2026-03-04, version 5.104*

I cannot access Haaretz app because there is no way to close the popup ad for chair yoga. I pay money for this?

### 1/5 — Ergonomy? Why?

*2025-09-13*

This app is the typical result of a company dwelling in browser land not understanding how to present information on a mobile device. I would like to give zero stars for not having a settings item where one can change the font and font size. At least I could not find it. This app will serve in my #UX lecture on how not to create an app.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We’re always looking to learn from our users and improve.

To adjust the font size, please follow these steps:
1. Tap the “א” button in the bottom navigation menu to open the main menu.
2. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the screen.
3. Select “Accessibility.”
4. Uncheck “Default font size” and set your preferred font size.

Feel free to reach us with any issue at: mobile@haaretz.co.il and we’ll be happy to assist.

### 1/5 — Trap Ads / Hidden Exit / Forced Interaction Obstruction

*2025-08-28*

The ad covers the entire screen, blocking access to the app.
	•	The close button (X) is:
	•	Deliberately hard to find (very small, transparent, or placed at screen edges where it’s hard to tap)
	•	Non-functional, or worse,
	•	Positioned outside the safe/interactive zone on iPhones—where the notch, status bar, or swipe areas are.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback, and I apologize for the bad experience.
We take this issue seriously, but please note that some of the ads shown in the app come from external advertisers, so we don’t always have full control over the design or placement of the close button.
We’d appreciate it if you could send us a screenshot or a short video by email at
mobile@haaretz.co.il
so we can review the case and address it accordingly.
Eyal from Haaretz

### 1/5 — Terrible customer service

*2024-12-12*

Great journalism but subscription services are fraudulent

### 1/5 — Stuck on Advertisement

*2024-06-27, version 5.60*

The app starts by displaying an that cannot be dismissed. I am a subscriber and can’t get past the advertisement.

### 1/5 — Worst digital news app Login for PAID!

*2024-05-04, version 5.53*

Constant reoccurring problems over 3 different subscriptions over the years.
I had cancelled my subscription two times previously because of login problems with paid subscription.
I tried it again because I really wanted to have more insight into Israel viewpoints.
Once again i paid for a one year subscription and downloaded the app and lo and behold I can’t login as the page is not operable for input.
Technical Incompetence?
It’s a reoccurring issue with Haaretz.

### 1/5 — horrible app. not worth it

*2024-04-05, version 5.48*

have a subscription, yet constantly asks me to sign in. canceling five days after subscribing. moving to a different Israeli news source. Haaretz, you need to up your digital game. your product is terrible.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Formatting doesn’t work with iPhone mini

*2025-08-10*

I subscribe because I think Haaretz does excellent reporting, but I can’t get the app to work on my phone. The overlay ads are impossible to close because the “x” button lies outside my small screen.

### 5/5 — Rare source of news

*2025-06-05*

I am a proud Palestinian in diaspora. I find this news source to be a rare honest and factual source of news about the occupied Palestinian land, otherwise known as Israel. Western news outlets do not even try to hide their lies about Palestine, Haaretz shines through those dark times. It is, however, very disappointing that it requires a subscriptions I will get this news source from Apple News instead of paying a hefty subscription fee. Please continue with the honest news reporting and u covering the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinians and their stolen land.

### 5/5 — Gideon Levy is the most honest journalist in Israel!

*2024-09-25, version 5.69*

I subscribe to Ha’aretz mainly to read the brilliant articles written by the great, the humane, the ELOQUENT, Gideon Levy. Yes, I am proud to call Mr. Levy a friend, and, I am thrilled that Ha’aretz sees that he is an INTERNATIONAL TREASURE! May God bless Gideon Levy and his loved ones and may God protect Ha’aretz!

### 5/5 — Left wing Views

*2024-09-05, version 5.68*

As a centrist, I like to read views on both sides. While this definitely leans left, I think they do so fairly. Easy to navigate app.

### 5/5 — Attention developers

*2024-05-27*

The app is crashing really bad . I tried repeatedly to open and it continues to snap shut crashing . May 16th 2024 EST 9:34AM ---------------------------------------- UPDATE : May 26th 2024 EST 11:30pm iPhone 14 Pro it was because of an iOS update I needed to do that I was unaware that fixed the issue after update was iOS 17.5.1 It was not a technical on your side. ### 5/5 — The login seems to be fixed

*2023-11-22*

The login button started working again.

**Developer response:** Hi Julia, we checked the login and it works fine. The buttons responds. Please e-mail us your device and OS details and we will help you: mobile@haaretz.co.il

### 5/5 — Haaretz app review

*2023-03-13*

I have been a subscriber for a long time. Lately I started noticing adds that appeared whenever I read an article. This is a relatively new finding. They are quite bothersome and they should not be sent to subscribers.

### 5/5 — Wanted a Leftwing Israeli perspective

*2021-08-04*

Everything I get from friends applauds Israel’s every move. Since no nation is perfect, I am now hearing about Israel worts and all. Does not make me love the nation any less.

### 5/5 — Super

*2021-07-11*

Very nice

### 5/5 — Excellent writing

*2021-05-30*

Not subscribed yet. Enjoying my free articles. But I am hooked on the timely and fact finding news reported by the authors. Human interest articles are so enlightening. It seems I learn so much about the area. Having friends living just north ofTel Aviv keeps me glued to the content.
