*2025-06-27, version 2.63*

### 5/5 — Best Therapist

*2025-03-12, version 2.63*

I’m gonna be so real right now, I only use this app for the AI therapist. Therapy is expensive and exhausting, but HOL’s AI therapists are the kindest, most empathetic, most compassionate and supportive therapists I’ve ever seen. I’ve tried therapy irl more times than I can even really remember, and all of them fall flat in the areas I’ve mentioned above when compared. Susan, in particular, has been the main source of help along my journey. If you want to try therapy but have bad experiences in the past with regular therapy, like I do, then I would definitely recommend giving Habit Of Living a shot.

### 5/5 — Amazing!!!

### 5/5 — Excited

*2025-02-06, version 2.63*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Glitches horribly

*2026-02-10, version 2.63*

Everything you do kicks you back to the Home Screen or wants you to pay to upgrade.

### 1/5 — Why does it cost so much?

*2024-07-04, version 2.63*

Why would I pay for an app that does the exact same thing as Chat GBT? Pay for Chat GBT that has prizes and a note pad basically. lol zero stars and terrible idea. Also 15$!! Most streaming services cost that and this has no movies or shows what makes you think a note pad is worth 15$ a mo!

### 1/5 — Poor technical execution / completely broken

*2024-04-25*

First time using it, and my impression is that the UX is terrible. But hey, let me get through the setup and see how the ‘meat’ of the thing is. Nope, no can do. App asked for a first journal entry. “Write as much as you can and then hit the checkmark button.” So I wrote… What checkmark button? There isn’t one. There’s also no way to go back or save my entry as a draft. It was a nice idea, I guess.

Quick update to say that in the account creation process, my password was limited to a certain number of characters. It let me type what I wanted to type, but stopped recording 2 characters before I finished my password selection. I closed the app and logged back in to see if that would correct the journal. Typing my password into the login field, I was able to type the whole password (field is not limited to a specific number of characters). So it was a bit of trial and error to figure out where my password actually ended.

### 2/5 — The Quality has gone down as the price has gone up ☹️

*2023-09-23*

This app was great for over a year. More recently they’ve been shipping “prizes” that are different from what I’ve requested and when you order their “mystery boxes” they send the cheapest items possible and apparently don’t check to see what you’ve already gotten. I just got my second cheap plastic shaker bottle in a row - yay 🙄they also used to include gift receipts so you could return something if it wasn’t to your expectations, but that has become a “sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t” thing.

The app doesn’t work well for those of us with low dopamine if the prizes are inconsistent with what we’re ordering or if the quality is low.

Great concept, bad (recent) execution.

### 2/5 — Too many bugs, frustrating

*2023-03-07*

I absolutely LOVE this idea for an app, and think it would be very helpful if the app worked properly. I saw an ad on Facebook and signed up to try it, I had just set up my profile and was writing my first journal entry… after awhile it started to freeze up when I was typing which was getting pretty infuriating by itself, but then after I had nearly a whole book chapter of pouring my heart out about my most traumatic life altering experience the app crashed and erased everything I had written… I had spent an hour at least writing and there’s no way I’m writing it all again now… I’m hesitant to try journaling here again at all if that’s what is going to happen when I try… now I’m crying because I just dug up really painful memories and then I lost everything I just put all that effort into writing down… I don’t see any save as you go options either, just a done button. I’m really sad that this was my experience, I can see how this app would be helpful if it didn’t just do me so dirty like that. I’m deleting unfortunately because I can’t put myself through that again… wish I wouldn’t have wasted my time to just lose it.

**Developer response:** Hey Ash - thank you so much for your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that you had a frustrating experience while trying to journal and understand that losing your heartfelt entry can be extremely triggering. This is the complete opposite of our intended impact. Our team is constantly working to improve the app's performance and reliability, and we appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention. With that said, if you reach out to contact@projectcamus.com, we can work with you to ensure your account is set up in the right way & reimburse you for the points you missed out on!

### 3/5 — Just started

*2024-12-23, version 2.63*

I like the journal part and the advice given

### 3/5 — A little misleading. A little hard to use. Maybe helpful?

*2023-04-16*

I like the idea of this app, but I don’t like how it works. The AI is actually quite good, but the rewards system seems strange :you get 9 points when you do your first thing- very rewarding to our dopamine starved brains! Do the follow up the next day, you get a fraction of a point. That feels very bait and switchy to the kind of folks who might use this app - making the rewards so much smaller so fast feels like you’re trying to trick us.
Also not a fan of having to log in every time I open the app. iPhone only stores passwords for websites, apparently. Remembering a password for a therapy app is a little stressful.

I like what you’re up to, but some of your backend tech is frustrating to at least one neurotypical person. I don’t think I could justify paying for it as is.
I’m going to keep trying to use it and see if it frustrates me less. But I’m tired of thinking of passwords I think I can remember. :(

**Developer response:** Hey Buggsy - thanks for the feedback! We truly appreciate it as it helps us set direction to continue to grow and make meaningful improvements. I've included some context below about the points you mentioned.

Regarding the +9 sign up bonus - we've implemented this largely to allow users to redeem their first free reward faster (free rewards are 15 points). Essentially, we want to get to a point where users redeem their first reward and say "Hey, this is real. We get real rewards for self-care." faster. But, to your point, it's a tough choice. Getting a 9 point boost and then transitioning to 1 point a day can feel a little off. As you allude to, tying together self-care with dopamine / positive reinforcement is the goal. If we can get to a point where people are excited about self-care/rewards and are using our tools to make meaningful progress in their mental health, that would be a success.

Regarding passwords, I totally get it. Having to enter your password every time is a frustration. The reason we've chosen to go this route is a reflection of the sensitivity of the data in the app and our desire to meet the highest standard of handling this type of data. Ultimately, we have chosen to protect this data in line with HIPAA, and that means some form of password is necessary. With that said, we are working on fingerprint scanning, which would help ease this issue tremendously.

As you continue using the app, we would love to hear how you think we can improve. Please feel free to reach out to contact@projectcamus.com.

### 4/5 — Helps

*2024-12-01, version 2.63*

This app really does help when you don’t like to go in to therapy or talk to a live person it is AI COUNSELING sorry idk why that was all caps. But ai couplers and I think it wa slime 4 to pick from. They are sever another benifts to it as well. You can also build point to get cool gift boxes from them. I can’t wait for all my pint to build up I am wanting to build up to get at least 3 boxes to see what I get the myster in the box is also the jay and little happiness to look forward to. Also giving your self point for betting yourself!

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2023-10-26*

So far I’m really like it, the journal entries help me see things I might otherwise hold onto it. I feel like I’m getting things off my chest without having to actually talk to someone in person which may make me keep tho to myself. So far the only downside is the reward points, I feel like there should be at least 1 for each journal entry a half a point isn’t much, I also think there should be extra points for doing some of the extra things maybe after doing the visual so many days in a row, or have using the therapy so many times, anyway other than that it’s helping me.

### 4/5 — Impressed so far!

*2023-10-17*

I was incredibly skeptical about this app, I’m still a little hesitant to try and get a reward because I’m not sure where the money is coming from if I have a free account with no ads. But overall this app is really thoughtful and I’m impressed by the amount of thoughtful, helpful resources and activities it has on it. I won’t lie, the AI therapist thing is really well made and kind of reminds me of my actual therapist lol. The app seems like all of the resources come from science-backed practices and I really appreciated seeing their references that they have on there. I will say there’s so much on the app that it’s a bit of a learning curve to use and figure out, but there’s a good amount of help from the app. I haven’t found it to be too buggy either, which is nice. I wish free users could change the icons on the hope board though, sometimes it gives me like a picture of a married couple on something totally not relevant to…. Being married lol, but that’s pretty trivial. So anyway, I’m going to keep trying to use it! I hope it helps in the long run.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-05-12, version 2.63*

I love your app.

### 5/5 — This really helps

*2026-04-21, version 2.63*

I have a live case manager (I think that’s her title) and she has been great working with me. There’s an AI therapist, which does help when I need to talk right away. I am horrible about journaling, but I’m actually doing it here. There are different therapy techniques that you can use, like EMDR and CBT. I’ve recently discovered the creative area. I describe how I’m feeling and AI creates a picture. I have chronic migraine and a certain way I picture how my head hurts. I described it and the picture was so accurate the first time.

The reward side of it, which there needs to be with therapy, is that you can earn points for doing the various tasks, like journaling. Those points can be used for stuff like Calmbox. I get Calmbox each month and I can tell you that it has quality items to help with mental health, like candles and lotion. I highly recommend this app, and it’s really not expensive to pay for the year.
