### 3/5 — Was great ...

*2020-11-21*

Now needs a bug fix.
Was one hell of a good idea of an application.

### 2/5 — Is this app being supported?

*2020-09-13, version 2.3.2*

I love the parts of this app that work. Several key features do not work, and when I follow the path to get support it appears the app has been acquired by a larger company. Is this app being maintained and if so how do I receive support for it?

### 3/5 — When it works, it works…

*2019-02-25*

Like MoodAgent, HABU suffers from lack of app development/support to keep up with iOS updates - but that said when it works it does a great job, but sometimes on iOS 10-iOS12 the app won’t launch properly at just show a blurred background and the ONLY way I have found to fix this is to remove App & App data, reinstall, & let it reprofile 15,000 music tracks! A real pain!

(When profiling music, make sure ‘turn off screen’ on your device is switched off & plug device into charger, at least until music is profiled, then re-enable screen off setting & you can unplug too)

### 4/5 — Great application!

*2019-02-06, version 2.3.2*

I love this application. I think it has great potential specially for people with big music collections who love to create playlists. I like the fact that you can explore your music through a different lens (mood) and find new surprising relations between song that you did not think about. It is a great tool to give you ideas when creating a playlist. One issue I see is that the app doesn’t analyze music in the background (you have to keep the phone opened)and that this app is not maintained often; the last update was about 10 months ago.

### 4/5 — Thought this app was gone. GREAT

*2018-10-25, version 2.3.2*

I thought this app died 3 years ago but I kept it on my phone anyway. Glad I did now that an update was made 7 months ago. Works fine on my Xs and now that mood agent is gone this is the only app of this type I can find. Works well to create nice playlists. Wish there was a way to globally remove comedy routines etc but I’ll live with it as it is. Really my go to music player again.
————————

Works fine on iPhone 5 but fails completely on iPhone 6 both running iOS 8.1. Works on iPad 3 with 8.1. Too bad was a favorite app. Developer says they are working on it but it seems to be taking quite a long time.

----- original review follows. I really did like it.

After using this app a few days I'm upping to five stars. Much easier to use than Mood Agent and is got me listening to my music again. The playlists are spot on and it's queuing up tracks I've not listened to for years and they fit the mood playlist perfectly.

I even created a new smart playlist to load my new iPhone 5 cycling available tracks based on rating, last skipped etc. Thanks to thus app I don't think I'll have to buy more music for years!

Also, it's been very efficient in excluding audiobook and comedy tracks. Only a couple of musical comedy tracks have been included and those are probably by design.

In short, worth every penny. I've deleted most of the other music player apps off my phones and iPads. This is clearly the goto app for casual listening.

AirPlay works great with this and AppleTV.

Lastly they must be using the Apple iPod core to play the tunes because the last played and skipped items are updated in the iTunes database making the Realtime playlist updating possible.

Hope all this is useful. I don't do many reviews but I'm very enthusiastic with this simple but effective app.

### 4/5 — Needs an update

*2017-10-25*

I really enjoyed this app but since I’ve updated my phone I just get a message saying that the developer needs to update the app. Pretty please can you do an update?

### 4/5 — Upgrade.

*2017-10-23, version 2.2.0*

Any status on when upgrade for iOS 11?

### 4/5 — Update for iOS 11

*2017-10-06, version 2.2.0*

I love this app. It worked great before iOS 11, but now it is no longer compatible. Can you please update it to work with iOS 11? Thank you so much. This is such an amazing app.

### 4/5 — Love it - when is a desktop version coming??

*2016-12-13, version 2.2.0*

Love this app - no, it's not perfect, but it's great for mixing up your music...

I just wish there was a desktop version...

### 3/5 — Such potential!

*2016-09-21, version 2.2.0*

It's the only app like it in the store. It has such potential and, honestly, if tweeked could be something Apple would buy. It has quite a few glitches and sometimes the music doesn't fit the mood. I hope the developer works on this app because I enjoy it.

### 3/5 — Wider Music Apps

*2015-12-31*

Could make it so you could sync Habu to your Spotify playlist!!

### 4/5 — Good but not great

*2015-10-28, version 2.2.0*

I've been looking for an app that will create playlists from my music for a while now. This one works pretty well although I wish there was more control over how you create the playlists. For example, I wish you could pick genres instead of just using moods. (I assume a mood is just based on the bpm). Perhaps if they connected with soundcloud they can get genre details. Or at least thats what my old favorite app Groove used to do.

### 4/5 — Great idea works pretty well. Just a few things...

*2015-09-26, version 2.2.0*

I like this software I use it most days asa I go to and from work to match my mood. With 4500 songs on my phone its invaluable. There are only a few problems. It does not analyze songs in the background. You have to leave your phone open and the app up front to get the analysis done. Next song titles and lyrics are not part of the dark/positive analysis. So new are songs with dark lyrics and cruel titles end up in categories like soulful groove or romantic. The beat can be deceiving. I wish they would team up with a content analysis company and make the ratings better. Lastly and this is the most frustrating thing. there is no matching Mac Application that can help manage the playback of the 119+ GB of music on my mac. I would love to sit in my office and be able to pull the full range of music from my system based on my mood or the work I’m trying to accomplish. Imagine being able to designate a mood based playlist or two for transfer to the phone or iPad. (I run this on both.) Great Work. I would gladly ship you a few dollars for a mac version.

### 2/5 — Meh.

*2015-06-07, version 2.2.0*

Used it once more or less successfully then it kept crashing trying to analyze music. If they can fix that bug this would be a fantastic app

### 3/5 — This app is almost dead.

*2015-05-27, version 2.2.0*

You can't export your playlist to iTunes or the music app.
The 25 moods is too few for my taste but 100 masses the dots extremely hard to navigate on an iPhone 6 plus.
The like songs feature only is there to sell music on iTunes. Why can't I chose related songs in my library?

It's not a bad app, but never evolved. It has iTunes Match support which is fantastic. The moods are mostly accurate (is only referencing a database so there are a few, huh? Mood songs). This is probably the best app I've been able to find like this but far from perfect.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No longer working

*2020-11-17*

Not working since upgrade to iOS 14 .3

### 1/5 — Still waiting...

*2019-03-30, version 2.3.2*

I used to love this app, but on iOS 12 it doesn’t work anymore. I’m still waiting for an update, but it’s almost a year since the last released version, so probably this is a dead project.

### 1/5 — Stuck at analyzing "network error"

*2017-04-16*

It's been 2 days and I still havn't synced all my playlist, it goes for 5-6 songs then get stuck. After closing & opening app it goes for another 6-7 song and gets stuck again. Now after 2 days of closing and opening the app I'm almost done the analyzing part but it doesn't go past analyzing anymore!!!! What a waste

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2016-07-03*

Won't complete the library analysis step as the app keep crashing. Seems like an interesting concept but until that's fixed I won't be using it.

### 1/5 — Stuck in analysis

*2015-05-17*

Will take ages to analyse songs and reanalyse with every start. Second pass analysis will hang until it finally crashes (ie simply closes). So I have not been able to actually use the app at all...
Will rate again if the bugs are fixed and setting/functionality are improved (have a menu option to analyse music, only analyse music added...)

### 1/5 — Great idea, only error messages iPhone 6

*2014-11-06*

Can't use, open the App and receive several error messages. iPhone 6. Great idea though.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2014-10-27*

It didn't recognize any of my music. All of my songs were unmapped. Please fix! It's also annoying that it can't analyze in the background.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2013-12-18*

This app keeps crashing while its categorizing my music. Every time I try to go back into it it crashes. I am using an iPod 4th generation. This problem has been going on for probably a year and I would still like to use the frikkin app!!!

### 1/5 — Don't say it unless u mean it

*2013-05-08*

Same as other users and not even there
App support knows they have a problem?
It is a good idea but doesn't work

### 1/5 — Great idea, but...

*2013-01-08*

This is a great app that categorises music well, but it takes the mickey to actually sort all your music. It stops analysing your music after 10mins and you then have to reopen the app to get it to continue.
This is ok for the quicker initial sort, but when it starts 'identifying unmapped songs' it takes hours to do (especially as mine seems to restart at a low number every time I reopen it). This means to analyse a large library you have to sit next to your phone for hours reopening the app.
I understand this is probably done to save battery, but please give us a setting to turn it off!
Shame because this is a great app otherwise.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great little music players

*2022-05-22*

I’ve tried it just about every music app out there. This is by far the best.

### 5/5 — At Last!!

*2022-04-09*

I have about 500 albums, and most albums are comprised of songs to display the range and expertise of the artist. In almost all cases the album ranges over many moods. However, when a listener begins to listen to music, he or she begins in a specific mood, and either wants to listen to music in that specific mood, or to intentionally choose music in a specific different other mood!
This app is a golmine for those who recognize its value. May it be available fo to r all future generations

### 5/5 — Enjoyed

*2018-01-22, version 2.2.0*

I thought this was a great idea, and really enjoyed using the app. Wish it was still usable on new OS. Sorry you weren’t able to make a go of it and keep it updated. Very nice concept. Good layout.

### 5/5 — Exceptionally clever way of accessing all your music

*2017-09-07*

I love this app. I really really hope that you will continue to develop it. It's truly the best way to play ALL your music rather than just your favourites. Brilliant piece of coding.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2017-06-03*

What better way to sort music on your device into different moods ready to play.
So clever!

### 5/5 — A cool concept - wish they'd continue to develop it

*2016-10-30*

This app is particularly relevant now with the demise of Genius on phones with Apple forcing users out of their own libraries to their paid subscription service.

I've used this for a long time and simply pleased it still exists ! Please take up the cause again - would be cool to see it evolve and happy to pay for a next gen version to fully replace friggin Genius ;)

### 5/5 — Probably Best Mood Player out there

*2016-08-23, version 2.2.0*

Habu is exactly what im looking for, offline music library mood analyser and player and online music discovery according to mood you choose. Works fine, only a few unpopular songs were not mismatching the selected mood, which is so much better than dreadful shuffle. And the best part is, its totally free!!! 👍🏻

Update: on each launch it re-analyses last 200 songs so I cant choose shuffle option and have to wait for 15-20 mins every time. This is the only annoying bug and I hope they fix it soon!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2016-06-24, version 2.2.0*

HABU works great at what it's for, organizing music according to mood. It would be an improvement if there were a search function so that I could quickly find out what category a specific song was placed in.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2015-09-04*

Love this app... It is really clever and is a great way to experience and rediscover a large music collection according to mood.

The only thing I would change is the 'look'... It is really ugly and the app icon is a mess.

Also it is a real pain I have never been able to explore playlist options as it says they only work when music analysis is complete... And it never is because as soon as it ends it starts again... And it will only run in background for 10 mins after leaving app. I appreciate it needs to update but I'd rather it asked before it did this.

### 5/5 — Great music app

*2015-04-24, version 2.2.0*

This app is better than Apple's genius and many of the other genre band auto playlist generators out there. Might take a long time to analyze large music libraries, but it's worth the wait. I started to use this app for workout music.
