I redownloaded it for the nostalgia to find the unpleasant surprise of not being able to adopt new cats without buying a GamePlay subscription. In order to be able to do everything you have to pay a subscription. And I don’t think for a mobile game you should have to pay $5 a month. **Developer response:** HackyCat is part of a larger game subscription service called GameClub — all-you-can-play access to a large library of curated games (including HackyCat), with hundreds of hours of gameplay within the subscription. I know it's just a game, but they should not be teaching kids to these things. I mean, a child is not going to read the warning in the beginning of the game (which happens to pop up for a bout half a second before disappearing. Angry birds is a different case: It has no influence on children, seeing as you can barley tell those are birds and pigs. And besides, it's far too unrealistic to have any sort of effect on their imaginations. To them, it's just a mindless game where you throw bombs on boxes, but in hacky cat you can clearly see a human kicking a cat in the air. ### 1/5 — Please fix bug! *2013-04-04, version 1.0.2* I love this game, but I'm currently experiencing a bug where not all cats inside the super kick circle are getting launched. I'm playing as Corrine, and often a cat on the outside edge of the circle will launch but another cat that's fully inside won't go. I tried clicking the app support button, but it isn't working. I will change this review to 5 stars if they fix this bug. ### 1/5 — To much space *2013-04-03, version 1.0.2* If this is a 40 mb game, how come it takes up about 240 mb on my iPad? I've deleted it, takes up to much space for frells sake. I love all the cats you can get like mustiasio except you have to subscribe to be able to adopt the cats. And that is okay. ### 5/5 — This game is satisfyingly demented and addictive *2020-06-20* I’ve been been playing this game since it came out and for a while there it wasn’t updated with this iOS version so I experienced unfathomable sadness as you could imagine (as this game is definitely one of the staples of go-to amusement on my portable glowing communication devices) so I am insanely grateful that it’s back and I’m glad I never deleted and kept it there even when it wasn’t working because I missed it. Just kept the app in my graveyard of Apps and refused to delete it and I’m glad I never did. This game rocks. I feel like your brain would be one I would pick. Props friend. It has wrought much delight. Glad it’s still supported. And hearts. <3 woo! ### 5/5 — Hackycat *2019-11-01, version 1.1.12* To address the review below mine, like the publisher has said, you only need to offer your email if you're signing up for GameClub. This is not required to play the game and if you previously bought the game, you can swipe over to the last screen on the GameClub pop up (that only appears the first time you run the game) and hit 'restore purchase' to get the update for free without signing up for the GameClub subscription. They have handled these updates MAGNIFICENTLY. It's very rare when a publisher switchover happens and they give you ZERO reasons to be upset with how they handle it, however, that's exactly how it's been implemented with all of these GC games. Now, as for the game, I bought this the day it was released because, well, I bought EVERY Adult Swim game that wasn't free the day it was released. And while at first I thought that this was one of the least impressive games that AS published, it grew on me. Quickly. And now I'm SO glad that GameClub has brought it back from the dead. I do wish that GameCenter or a dedicated server used for score keeping, because this is a PERFECT game for score chasing, but the unlocks will keep you busy for a while and then once you unlock everything playing to better your own score is great. 3 different gameplay modes (not including a training mode), and TONS of cats to unlock along with 3 different characters to choose from, each with their own perk that changes the gameplay a bit more. I usually hate games that require a grind like this (and yes, I understand that the grind IS the game....) but in this case, the grind is actually incredibly fun. And if you have subscribed to GameClub, this is definitely another game you should at least give a chance. And then another chance because you might not like it at first.... but it DOES open up a bit once you start unlocking things. So.... after all that... THANK YOU GameClub for bringing this game back!!! And thank you to the original developer for actually creating this game!
