### 3/5 — Update needed

*2021-03-03, version 4.0.5*

Needs to update its setting as when I click New Zealand sign language and it comes up blank but still hear voice overs. Same goes with American and Australian sign language

### 3/5 — Animal names

*2020-12-24, version 4.0.5*

Mostly just animals names. Got for the Auslan. It is good for descriptive signs, been waiting for them to add sign language in the form of ASL, Auslan or NZSL to the rest of the series but after 2 years it does not seem they will unfortunately.

### 3/5 — Had to buy aga

*2018-11-15, version 4.0.2*

My grandchildren love this book. I bought it previously and have been receiving messages that the developer needed to update it, which has never happened. Consequently I’ve had to pay again for a working version......not happy

### 4/5 — Narrated by David Tennant

*2016-11-08, version 4.0.1*

"Narrated by David Tennant (oh, that's me)"

### 4/5 — Hairy Maclary

*2013-07-09, version 2.1*

Love this signed version. Can we please have more books which includes the signed language version. Please please, always on the look out.
Thanks Lyn

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2013-04-16, version 2.1*

Love, love, love. Please make more! I'm a fan of Alex Jones' work (Auslan interpreter).

### 4/5 — Signing Hairy

*2012-12-27, version 2.1*

Really love this story and the Auslan signing is the best part. My son has special needs and we do Key Word Sign with him so having this story with Auslan is fantastic. Would like to see more books with this extra feature, it would be pleasing if all the Hairy McClary series had Auslan interpretation. Finally, I also enjoy David Tennant's voice and wish he narrated the whole series.

### 5/5 — Fabulous

*2012-05-20, version 2.0.1*

This is such an awesome development! This story is a long time family fave! Now we can truly enjoy it as a whole family. Thank you so much! Please, please, please make some more! Worth every cent

### 2/5 — Underwhelming

*2012-05-20, version 2.0.1*

My kids love the book, we read it often. This app is really no more than the book with audio. No point buying if you already own the book, as the app adds very little. Incredibly disappointed when you consider the price..... Buy the book and make up your own dodgy Scottish accent, better value

### 5/5 — Classic

*2012-05-19*

You can't go wrong with Hairy Maclary and David Tennant's narration fits perfectly with the way we always read it growing up. This is a must have for any digital library.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Do not purchase

*2018-12-24, version 4.0.2*

This is the second time I have had to purchase the app as it stopped working after the upgrade. Now the app is rubbish. I should have read the reviews first. No longer easy to use, read along with children, no longer easy to colour. Definitely NOT designed for iPad use any more. How can I obtain a refund??

### 1/5 — Crashes on all devices

*2016-10-19, version 4.0*

Please fix this.... It's been crashing since the update on all devices in my home!!

### 1/5 — Was great but now Crashes

*2016-10-11, version 4.0*

Latest update immediately forces the app shut on my sons ipad2 it didn't that before the new ui update, he is distraught as he now can't read his bedtime story.

### 1/5 — No longer works after update

*2016-10-09, version 4.0*

We used to love this but after the recent update it no longer works. Don't purchase it! Buy the books instead because they last!

### 1/5 — Parents/Carers section

*2016-06-13, version 3.3*

I can't access the Parents/Carers section. The whole app shuts down when I click on the icon! Not good!

### 1/5 — Doesn't open!

*2013-10-02, version 3.1*

Have tried downloading this 5 times now & the app won't open. Have also emailed support twice but received no reply. Total rip off!

### 1/5 — Hairy maclary from donaldsons dairy

*2013-01-27, version 2.1*

Does not work at all! Total rubbish....Gutted

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2012-03-26, version 1.4*

Love the book, but disappointed in the iPad version. Very expensive with far fewer interactive features than other similar books. Only purchased because my son loves the story, but other books such as The Monster at the End of this Book provide far more creativity and interactive opportunities. Wouldn't recommend, not worth the money.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — NZSL Version

*2014-05-17, version 3.3*

This is probably one of the best apps I have ever downloaded! The fact it has the NZSL interpretation is fantastic and my son, who is deaf, loves it! Thank you!!

### 5/5 — A digital book worth buying!

*2013-12-31*

This book is fantastic! The story is well told, and I absolutely LOVE the sign language and art options! Alex Jones uses entertaining expressions that flow along with the story as he signs. The art options include a few basic tools to adjust and play around with the pictures. And allowing the parent or child to record his/her own version of reading the story is a nice touch as well. I would love to see more of these digital books with Mr. Jones signing them as well!

### 5/5 — Hairy maclary.

*2013-08-14, version 3.0*

Love this book.....my disabled daughter watches it over and over.
Please, please make more of your books with the Auslan. She gets so much enjoyment out of it and is even trying to communicate with signs.

### 5/5 — Nice app with extra features

*2013-05-27, version 2.1*

This is a nice app and both my kids love it. The story mode is great and you can choose for it to be read by David Tennant with the words on screen highlighting as you go, or the kids can read it themselves. If you touch the words they are read out too which is nice.

There is also basic colouring feature so the kids can colour in the pictures from the book. My kids love this and it keeps them occupied for hours!

### 5/5 — Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy

*2013-04-15, version 2.1*

Thank you for creating a story with Auslan. Both our children have hearing impairments & they love this story. I just wish there was more of them. David Tennant is amazing. The kids watch it over & over.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2013-04-02, version 2.1*

We love reading this together and the auslan is a great extra

### 5/5 — More like this please

*2012-12-18, version 2.1*

Love it and the auslan option is wonderful, just wish we had more books available to us with the auslan option, I would buy them happily. My deaf daughter can't get enough of it.

### 5/5 — Hairy's great

*2012-08-18, version 2.0.1*

Nice to have the words highlighted and move when spoken. Love this app is a favourite.

### 5/5 — Great

*2012-05-30, version 2.0.1*

This is fantastic with the option for Auslan now we can learn to sign one of her favorite books..

### 5/5 — A great wee digital book.

*2012-05-22, version 2.0.1*

My 15month old loves this. While David Tennant (or I) am reading the book, she can tap the dogs to hear the different barks, or the cat's yowl - and she will even bark along with them.

The ability to play the entire book, or each word as it is clicked on, adds a good level of diversity, allowing each word to be 'read' and sounded out. She's a bit young for that feature yet, but I can see it being useful as she gets older.

The "coloring book" feature is also popular with my girl.

Overall, this QBook is a bit spendy - but I have found it to be good value for money.
