## What is Hakoniwa Tariff?

What happens if you run a global economy with only 30 people, zero-sum resource auctions, and a Uniswap-style Automated Market Maker (AMM) determining exchange rates?

Hakoniwa Tariff is a brutally transparent, minimalist macroeconomic sandbox. There are no scripted events, no central banks, and no invisible hands—just pure math, micro-behaviors, and the chaotic emergent phenomena of international trade.

Built for economics enthusiasts, simulation geeks, and anyone who wants to play God with global markets, this app lets you track every single dollar and resource across decades of simulation.

■ THE LAWS OF THE SANDBOX
This world operates on strict, uncompromising economic axioms:
• Citizens hold ONLY local currency. All international trade instantly clears through the global AMM.
• Exporting does not earn foreign cash—it strictly strengthens your local currency value.
• Foreign reserves are only accumulated when a government actively devalues its currency via "Currency Intervention" on the AMM.
• Seized physical assets from inheritance tax don't disappear; they recycle back into the domestic market, triggering organic wealth redistribution.

■ THE ENGINE: MICRO MEETS MACRO
The World: 3 nations (USA, CHN, JPN). 10 citizens each.
The Micro: Citizens have age, weight, and multi-asset wealth. They bid on 4 resources (Food, Wood, Metal, Oil). If they face starvation (weight drops below 50kg), they abandon all bids except Food. A built-in 2nd-round domestic food auction acts as a safety net, allowing them to buy unsold food at capped prices to survive.
The Macro: Exchange rates are mathematically determined in real-time by a Constant-Product AMM (x * y = k) liquidity pool.
The UBI & Reincarnation Cycle: Citizens pass away at age 10. Financial wealth is taxed to fund Universal Basic Income (UBI), distributed strictly in local currency.

■ PLAY GOD: POLICY LEVERS
Tweak the engine in real-time and watch the 100-year charts—including Gini Index and Holistic Welfare Index (HWI)—react organically:
• Dynamic Tariffs: Weaponize trade by setting import tariffs anywhere from 0% to 1000%.
• Currency Intervention: Forcefully sell local currency into the AMM to acquire foreign reserves and boost export competitiveness.
• UBI & Welfare: Choose between Flat (Universal) payouts or Progressive UBI heavily weighted toward the poorest citizens.
• Export Bans & Protectionism: Unconditionally prioritize domestic buyers in food auctions, or completely lock down resource exports.
• Helicopter Money: Drop arbitrary amounts of cash directly into an economy and watch inflation soar.

■ EMERGENT CRISES & DEFAULT
The system is designed to break naturally. If you implement reckless policies, you won't get a "Game Over" screen. Instead, you will witness a Minsky-style default. When AMM liquidity dries up, nations lose their purchasing power and are physically locked out of global trade. Watch hyper-devaluation and stagflation emerge organically, then try to fix it.

■ SHARE YOUR DYSTOPIA
Hit a fascinating economic collapse? Use the "Save Data Management" feature to export your current world state as a lightweight Base64 text string. Paste this code on Reddit, Hacker News, or Discord to challenge your friends: "Japan's reserves are completely depleted. Here is the code. Guide them back to stability within 50 years."

■ FEATURES
• 100% Offline: No servers required.
• No Ads, No In-App Purchases: Pure, uninterrupted simulation.
• Bulletproof Engine: Run the simulation for 10,000+ years with zero memory leaks.

Take control of the sandbox. Adjust the tariffs. Watch the world react.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.6 — 2026-05-25

Added Clear Inventory Feature (Advance Edit): Added a function to the Advanced Edit screen that resets the inventories of all nations and all citizens to zero for each of the three resources: Wood, Metal, and Oil.

Added License List Link: Placed a link to the License List screen at the bottom of the Rules screen.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-05-24

Enhanced Dashboard UI: Added real-time visibility for "Targeted Export Bans" directly on each country's dashboard card. The layout has also been optimized with flexible text wrapping to prevent UI overflow errors on devices using larger accessibility font scales.

Updated In-Game Rules: Completely revised the "Rules & Specifications" screen (in both English and Japanese) to accurately describe the latest multi-round auction mechanics. It now explicitly details the 4th-round domestic bailout system for food, starvation penalties, and quality multiplier debuffs, while removing outdated descriptions.

Fixed Domestic Bailout Logic: Resolved a critical bug in the 4th-round food auction where residents were unintentionally blocked from participating in the domestic bailout if they had already bid and lost in their home market during Rounds 1-3.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-05-23

Supply Chain Degradation: Introduced resource quality debuffs in the multi-round auction system. Procuring resources in later bidding rounds now yields reduced effective quantities (e.g., 85% in Round 2, 70% in Round 3), simulating the harsh realities of secondary markets and economic sanctions.

Gradual Starvation Model: Overhauled the resident weight management logic. Weight gain/loss is now calculated continuously using linear interpolation based on the food fulfillment ratio, allowing for highly realistic simulations of chronic malnutrition and gradual physical decline.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-05-21

Important Notice: Due to major structural changes in the simulation engine and data models, this version is not compatible with save data from v1.0.2 or earlier. Please perform a fresh installation or clear your local app data after updating to avoid potential crashes.

Targeted Sanctions: Added the ability to impose item-specific export embargos on specific countries to simulate geopolitical trade policies.

Multi-Round Trade Engine: Implemented a multi-round bidding system (up to 4 rounds for Food, 3 for others) to enable spatial arbitrage and reduce market volatility.

Dynamic Macroeconomic Weighting: Asset valuation in HWI is now dynamic based on supply, demand, and scarcity.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-05-20
