### 2/5 — Pretty bad as no alerts

*2026-07-14*

The interface is pretty good however my main annoyances with it are:
1. If something goes wrong (eg low salt, system goes into pump protect mode) the system just switches itself from auto to off and sends you no alerts that it has done so. This seems like a huge flaw that could be fixed quite easily.
2. As previous reviewers have said - you have to connect to the system every time you use the app.
3. My previous Astral system was smart in that it automatically worked out what speed the pump should run depending on how balanced the chlorine and pH was. This system is dumb and you set the speed of the pump in the scheduled timer - a big downgrade in my view.
4. The display just tells you chlorine ok or low rather than the actual ORP value so you have no idea how badly out the chlorine level is when it is off. Again previous system was far better as it told you the value.

Not particularly impressed overall considering the price of the halo system.

### 2/5 — My pool is named poo

*2026-01-31*

Initially I thought this was a wonderful app while receiving the pool equipment tutorial from the pool company. Then I saw the name of my pool. The L was cut off. Tried to rename, but the app will not allow me to rename. Please update the app to enable me to rename and a few more characters would be appreciated. Plus, reconnecting every time I switch to another app is very annoying.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work remotely

*2026-01-12*

This app used to work whether I was at home or remote. It now doesn’t work at all unless home on the same wifi or in proximity to the system. Super annoying.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work with Google Home

*2025-10-09, version 1.5.6*

Can’t connect it to Google home sadly

### 2/5 — It's ok

*2024-12-15, version 1.5.5*

App and controls options needs some work to be more user friendly, with some basic other features.

### 2/5 — Painful to use

*2024-11-19*

Very useful for controlling the equipment, but appalling in that every time the phone locks and you want to go back to the device, it is so frustrating that it then decides to disconnect and then you have to reconnect, but it frequently decides that it cannot reconnect and you have to go through the process multiple times to get to it. Please fix this, exceedingly annoying.

### 2/5 — Removal of error logs

*2024-11-06*

Apart from poor connectivity, the main issue is that the error logging feature has been removed. There is no reason for this and users need access for warranty purposes. It appears this was done due to a bulk of hardware sensor issues which Astral is now seemingly seeking to avoid replacing.

### 2/5 — Great potential but very buggy

*2024-10-22*

Concept is great and when it works it works well. Ideal for remote management of a pool. However the software is buggy - especially the recent update. The app often won’t connect and requires many attempts - either by wifi or Bluetooth. Often it’s quicker to kill the app and restart in order to get a connect. This stuff isn’t rocket science - fix the issues and you have a decent product.

### 2/5 — Functional but flawed

*2024-02-28, version 1.5.1*

The all lets down all the other hardware, it’s clearly been made by engineers who have very little understanding of UI design.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-01-14*

Cannot log into the app wirelessly comes up that it fails to sync with the relay server. What is the point of this app?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hopeless

*2026-06-16*

Doesn’t work!!!! Rubbish!!! it really annoying me

### 1/5 — Latest update

*2026-05-10*

Ever since the latest update the app consistently fails to connect
If your going to update the app no not break it

### 1/5 — Connect issues

*2026-02-03, version 1.5.6*

Use to work well now it pretty much impossible to connect to the halo unless you are right next to it.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2025-03-10, version 1.5.5*

App is hit or miss. Sometimes works. Sometimes not. Extremely frustrating when you want to remote access your equipment.

### 1/5 — The connectivity is terrible - invest some money into this app. PLEASE

*2025-02-01, version 1.5.5*

The connectivity is terrible. Take forever to connect - invest some money into this app. PLEASE

### 1/5 — Do not buy this system

*2024-11-03*

Just look at the reviews. The lack of developer response and lack of updates is a red flag. App says I need a firmware update but the device cannot find any updates. The app say the heater is always on. The only way to turn the heater off is to do it manually. Spend your money elsewhere. Developers, would you care to respond to the negative reviews?

### 1/5 — Poor connectivity - repeated “Failed to connect”

*2024-10-23*

I can be standing directly next to the Halo Chlor unit with it and my host UniFi network showing a strong wifi connection, yet the app might repeatedly fail to connect to it via either Bluetooth or internet (iPhone 15 Pro Max on iOS 17.6.1). And its seemingly random; sometimes it will connect instantly, other times I give up after several attempts. To make it worse it automatically disconnects you if the phone goes to sleep.

### 1/5 — Worked for 2 hours now nothing

*2024-09-18*

Was really excited to have this system as recommended by our local pool installer.

The app worked as intended for the first 2 hours. Now I can’t connect to the system at all. The HALO box connects to the phone then drops the connection. Have tried on multiple phones and iPads. Pool installer does not have a work around either.

Cannot recommend the product in good faith currently.

### 1/5 — Wont load up

*2024-05-24, version 1.5.2*

App wont load on iphone or other devices. Please amend for pool users who are recommended to this defective by pool companies

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2024-05-23*

My partners Samsung phone seems to work, but the app doesn’t work on my iPhone. Have updated my software, restarted and reinstalled the app multiple times. The app only displays that it is loading. Even after 30 mins it shows no error messages, just continuously loading. The App Store doesn’t allow me to report a problem as it says the page cannot be found, not sure how to resolve this.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Absolutely Awesome

*2022-11-04*

Will their be an update in future to add the system to smart home for google home and Siri control??

### 5/5 — Awesome and simple app

*2022-08-11*

The new Halo CHLOR app is so simple to use. I love how I can control all my features of my pool + control my heating from anywhere around the world as long as I have an internet connection.

### 5/5 — Intuitive and easy to use

*2022-07-20*

Very easy to navigate, simple and well thought out.

### 4/5 — New install

*2026-05-17*

Connects easily. Good communication to chlorinator. Limited functions but useful.

### 4/5 — Good but would be awesome with Google home

*2023-03-24*

Nice app. The whole Halo system is great. Google home or Samsung smartthings integration would be make it awesome as I could integrate the pool with my other routines. Dimming of lights would also be useful.

### 3/5 — Great to have connectivity - BUT

*2026-08-01*

Love having web enabled connectivity to my pool system BUT I am disappointed in a few areas.
1) it would be great to receive push notifications or alerts when there are issues or even to confirm schedules have started. I was really surprised this was not available.
2) would also be nice with all the timer options to have the ability of setting days when we want them to operate.
I have to manually change timers for things like weekends when we run the pump at different times. Again, just thought this was a given when purchasing.
3) would be reassuring to be able to see the actual ORP level, not just OK/Low/High.

All the basics are there, just madly hoping Flurida take some of there comments on and update the app for better end user experience.

### 3/5 — Push notifications just don’t work

*2025-11-29*

I have never seen a notification for an error such as salt warning, pump protect etc however they are there once I open the app. Also it looses connection whenever the phone sleeps or you switch to another app. Could really do with these improvements as I use it all the time.

### 3/5 — App won’t work

*2024-05-23, version 1.5.2*

App will not open after the latest update any help would be good

### 3/5 — Good but needs more polish

*2023-12-21*

This app definitely gives you remote access to some information and control but the UI is quite dated.

Also not clear what some if the information provided is for i.e. is the temperature in the top left the temperature of the pool water??

As per other review - notifications don’t seem to trigger unless the app is opened.

Also - would be great if Astral Pools could support a local API for home automation systems like Home Assistant to access sensor data and control intelligently based on weather, energy rates, solar generation etc.

### 3/5 — A bit too techie in its design

*2023-06-13*

The app works just fine, however it’s complicated unnecessarily. If I have just one chlorinator, and I expect most people only have one, when I open it just show me the controls of that device. I don’t need to see the progress of the connection when it’s being made or see Bluetooth and internet. Please keep the app running for just a little while when I switch apps or sleep my phone so I don’t have to reconnect every time. I also have never received any notifications for low salt or low flow, but these show up when I connect. But it is nice to have remote control of the pump when dealing with the skimmer box.
