## What is Halt?

Quitting nicotine is mostly a series of very bad three-minute stretches. Halt is built for those three minutes, and for the sixty days after them.

THE BUTTON
When it hits, press HALT. It asks what's actually going on — hungry, angry, lonely, tired, or just the habit — then gives you the thing most likely to work on that: a breathing pacer, an urge-surf timer, a two-minute physical task, or your own reasons in your own words.

A SLIP DOESN'T ERASE ANYTHING
Every other quit app resets your counter to zero. Halt doesn't. A slip is one marked day on the calendar. Your total nicotine-free days, your best streak, your money saved, your urges beaten — all of it stands. Most people who quit for good slipped a few times first.

IT SEES IT COMING
The Ambush Map builds a picture of when you've logged cravings before and tells you before that window opens again. "Likely hard stretch today, 5:00pm–7:00pm." You get to decide what you're doing at 4:55 instead of at 5:20.

"IS THIS NORMAL?"
A searchable library of what happens when you stop — the hunger, the flatness, the fog, the sleep, the short fuse — with when it typically starts and how long it typically lasts. Every entry shows its source.

THE NUMBERS, AND HOW THEY'RE WORKED OUT
Time. Money. Units avoided. Urges beaten. Nicotine clearing. Every derived figure has a "How this is calculated" screen showing the actual formula in plain language. No black boxes.

A HEALTH TIMELINE THAT DOESN'T OVERSELL
Milestones sourced to CDC and NHS guidance. If you're quitting vapes or pouches, Halt says plainly which findings come from cigarette research and don't transfer — because the long-term studies don't exist yet, and pretending otherwise isn't help.

WITNESS
Pick one person. Send them a card each day with your number on it. No account for them, no app to install, nothing to reply to. The point isn't the card. The point is that someone would notice if it stopped arriving.

COLD TURKEY OR STEP DOWN
Both, stated straight: in a 2016 Annals of Internal Medicine trial, 22% of abrupt quitters were abstinent at six months against 15.5% of gradual reducers. Published research on methods, not a claim about this app.

YOUR DATA NEVER LEAVES YOUR PHONE
No account. No sign-up. No email address. No server. Everything lives on your device, and you can export it or erase all of it permanently from Settings at any time.

Halt is free to start. Halt Pro unlocks craving patterns, the Ambush Map, the step-down plan and the full record.

Halt is a tracking and habit app. It is not medical care and not a substitute for advice from a doctor, pharmacist or a stop-smoking service. Talk to a healthcare professional before you quit, particularly if you take prescription medication or have a heart, lung or mental health condition — quitting nicotine can change how some medicines work. The health information in Halt is general information from public health sources describing what typically happens for many people. It is not a prediction about you. 18+.

If you need real support, free help is available. Call or text 988 in the US, or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW to reach your state quitline.

### 5/5 — Recommending this to all of my patients

*2026-08-25*

This app has what my patients are missing and I will be recommending it to all of my patients who are quitting smoking. Instead of penalizing you for slipping up, this app coaches you through the slip up and never gives up on you! It’s based in sound science and I’m really excited to have this for my patients.

## Frequently asked questions about Halt

### How does Halt help with cravings?

Halt offers a 'button' to press when a craving hits. It then asks about your state (hungry, angry, lonely, tired, or habit) and provides a breathing pacer, urge-surf timer, physical task, or prompts for your own reasons to help you through the three-minute stretch.

### What happens if I slip up while using Halt?

Unlike other apps, Halt does not reset your progress. A slip is recorded as one marked day, and your total nicotine-free days, best streak, money saved, and urges beaten all remain intact. The app acknowledges that slips are a common part of quitting.

### Does Halt have ads?

Yes, Halt contains advertisements. The app is free to start, and advertisements are part of its operational model.

### What are the subscription options for Halt Pro?

Halt Pro offers weekly ($6.99/week after a 3-day trial), annual ($49.99/year after a 3-day trial), and a lifetime purchase ($79.99) option. Subscriptions auto-renew unless turned off 24 hours before the current period ends.

### Is my data safe with Halt?

Yes, your data never leaves your phone. Halt requires no account, sign-up, email address, or server. All data is stored locally on your device and can be exported or erased permanently from Settings.

### What kind of support does Halt offer for withdrawal symptoms?

Halt includes a searchable library detailing common withdrawal symptoms like hunger, flatness, fog, sleep changes, and short temper. Each entry indicates when symptoms typically start and last, with sources cited.

### Can Halt help with both cold turkey and step-down quitting methods?

Yes, Halt supports both cold turkey and step-down methods. It presents research findings on the effectiveness of each approach, noting that a 2016 trial showed 22% abstinence for abrupt quitters versus 15.5% for gradual reducers at six months.

### What is the Ambush Map feature in Halt?

The Ambush Map builds a picture of when you've previously logged cravings. It then alerts you before these high-risk windows open again, allowing you to plan your activities proactively rather than reacting to the craving when it hits.
