### 2/5 — Needs work.

*2024-12-29, version 1.492*

Audio problems. Frustrating.

### 3/5 — IPad gen 5 with os 16.4

*2024-02-23, version 1.492*

First impression of this morse code app is that it doesnt rotate into the landscape view, which I need for the attached iPad keyboard. I either have to view the screen sideways, or type sideways. Cheesh. It is the most expensive app for Morse code training…probably should have made screen rotation available…?

### 4/5 — Good to learn morse code in ham radio

*2023-12-02, version 1.492*

I learn morse code by this app in iphone.

### 4/5 — Stops with screen in dark mode

*2023-07-28*

I like to listen with the screen turned off to save
power. This is not possible with this app. Whenever
I turn the screen off (darken) the app stops working.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2022-05-20, version 1.470*

I’m using this to finally learn Morse and I am enjoying it! It’s perfect for what I need!

Only slight gripe is it doesn’t appear updated to support the larger iPhone screen models. But its not a deal breaker for me.

Thank you for making this app!

73!

### 4/5 — Excellent! But…

*2022-03-01, version 1.470*

This is a great Morse training app. It has most anything you need to learn and practice code.

But it has one problem. The word spacing seems to be the same as the character spacing. It should be a bit over twice that long - seven dits. Thanks for the app!

### 5/5 — Started working again

*2022-01-22*

Cancel my previous review comment. It has begun working.

### 3/5 — Insufficient Speed Adjustment

*2022-01-17*

Simon, I really like most wverything about your app, but cannot find any way to adjust the PER CHARACTER speed! I have read, and agree, that each character should be sent quite fast so that the learner is forced to copy/translate based on sound alone (no mental picturing of the di-dah sequence). Then the learner can asjust learning speed by only adjusting the INTER-CHARACTER speed (spacing between characters). If the app HAS that feature... I cannot find it. Also... no matter what I set the "char speed" to... i get the same... about 13 wpm. I had this app about three years ago and was able to change speed. Not sure why I cannot anymore. BTW... I'm using this on an iPhone12.

**Developer response:** Hi Zeppilen - Thanks for reaching out. In theory, you should be able to adjust the Per Character speed using 'Char WPM' on the settings page to however fast you want the individual characters to be sent (I think the default is 20wpm). You can then adjust the Inter-Character speed using the Speed slider on the front of the app, e.g., you could have the Character Speed set to 20 wpm and the speed slider set to 5 wpm and you would hear characters sent at 20wpm with inter-character and inter-word spacing adjusted to slow the overall speed down to 5wpm. You can reach me at simont at aa9pw.com if this doesnt solve things.

### 5/5 — Perfect for me

*2022-01-15*

This is just what I was looking for to improve my rusty CW skills. Very versatile and useful. Unlike some I have not had issues with sound. Apple may have changed something in iOS. The developer might add a few tweaks and recompile with the latest tools. That should make them go away.

### 5/5 — No Audio on my iPhone 11

*2021-10-24*

Updated:
I’ve since fixed the missing audio issue on my iPhone 11. The app requires the mute switch (on the left side above the volume buttons) to be in the unmuted position otherwise the sound is muted. The app now works perfectly and is now my “go to” Morse training app.

“I get no audio on my iPhone 11 with OS14.8. I’ve checked all the settings in the app and the phone and everything indicates it should be working. To test the app I also installed it on my new iPad Air also running OS14.8 and the audio works just fine. Not sure what I’m missing here.”

### 5/5 — The app that made Morse easy to learn

*2021-07-19, version 1.470*

I tried many apps and web sites, and this app is really the best in my opinion. It helped me get back into Morse code after many years, as sell as with continuing practice. It can be customised in so many ways that I can practice exactly what I need to practice. It’s been invaluable for my Morse skills. 73.

### 3/5 — Needs major modern updates

*2021-05-03*

While the only app for iOS for “practicing protocol of exchange”. The words are drawn out and the rst reports are completely horrid. I’ve never heard a 343 rst in Cw. Maybe ssb. It need abbreviations and cut characters like you would see in a qso. Hw? Gud, Tu ur wx hr is. If these could be updated it would be well worth the price and perfect.

**Developer response:** Hi there, many thanks for the feedback. The app does have all these abbreviations if you select the QSO option. Can you give any more information about what you mean when you say the words are drawn out? The RST reports are randomly generated within reasonable limits, in theory 355 is the lowest it should go but I will check the code and see what might be going on to give 343.

### 2/5 — No audio on iPhone

*2021-03-05, version 1.470*

App looks good but doesn’t do me any good wig no sound. I figured for $4.99 it ought to at least work.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App shuts off when screen is black

*2024-10-22, version 1.492*

App won’t run unless screen is on. I’d like a refund.

### 1/5 — Koch spacing seems to be off

*2023-11-24, version 1.492*

The app cannnot handle Koch spacing for some reason, and spits out word at the same speed regardless of character speed setting.

It also is a pain to re-set char speed (that doesn’t work) every time I change the wpm and relaunch the app. Wood not recommend and use Morse world instead.

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2022-07-16, version 1.490*

July 16, 2022 Update.
Bug apparently squashed.
As per my review ten years ago, although not perfect, this is still the best CW training app available.

As I stated in my previous review, I would like to see more emphasis placed on the new characters a person is learning in the CW trainer and les repetition of the characters one has already mastered in previous training sessions.

I particularly love the RSS feed feature. I see that in the current version there are now only 10 feeds. I would appreciate it if more could be added at your convenience.

Thank you for your quick response and communication in fixing this bug in the latest update.

Just downloaded the new version on 07-08-2022. Now it just opens and closes while still showing it is running in the background. Deleted app and reinstalled without effect. Used this app for many years. Please fix. TNX

### 1/5 — Loved this app but new update crashes

*2022-07-10, version 1.485*

This is my favourite code practice app and would get 5 stars but the version I downloaded today (July 9, 2022), crashes instantly upon opening on my iPhone 8 Plus running IOS 15.5. Please fix soon!

### 1/5 — No sound

*2022-01-10, version 1.470*

No sound, no support, no good

### 1/5 — No sound

*2021-11-06, version 1.470*

I purchased the app and installed on my iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation) running iPadOS 15.0.2, with much expectation. To my disappointment, there was no audio at whatever volume level nor tone setting. This is a morse code practice app that does not work. I advise no fellow ham should buy it. /VR2CH, AC6CH

### 1/5 — No sound

*2021-02-24, version 1.470*

I was looking forward to this great app but get no sound on my iPhone 12.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2021-02-08, version 1.470*

I can’t get any sound from the app. Not with headphones or the built in phone speaker. I’m seeing other reviews that say the same thing. Disappointing.

### 1/5 — No sound on iPhone

*2020-07-11, version 1.470*

I was really excited about this app but alas there is no sound and it’s unusable.

### 1/5 — No audio

*2020-05-12, version 1.470*

Should have listened to the reviews no sound

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app for new or not-so-new ham operators

*2025-07-09, version 1.492*

This app is excellent for learning or refreshing one’s ability to copy morse code. Lots of adjustments in speed and spacing allow you to copy code at your current speed and to improve your ability to copy faster and more accurately. Great way to improve your CW copy during long road trips

### 5/5 — Ham Morse

*2025-02-18, version 1.492*

One of the best CW training apps available. Get this and DahDit and your set. I used this app to learn while driving to work & just passed my 10 WPM certificate.

### 5/5 — Excellent for Practicing CW Receive

*2024-05-02, version 1.492*

I am working on regaining proficiency in Morse. The range of options available with this app is the best out there. This app can help a beginner learn Morse code, but it can also help those who already know code advance their speed to the next level, from 5 to 50 wpm. I especially love that I can listen to a simulated QSO or even a news report. I can hit play and listen hands-free while doing other things. In my opinion, this is the best Morse practice app (for listening) out there.

### 5/5 — I love this program

*2024-04-02, version 1.492*

Have had it from day one, great way to learn code.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-06-08, version 1.492*

It’s perfect from what I can tell in the features, had an issue with the app, developer responded same day fast, was more of a me issue, then an app issue, if your looking for a Morse code app, select this one. it’s worth the small amount of money, will recommend it, when someone is looking for an app. Tons of resources out there, but this is perfect for my needs

### 5/5 — Love it! (but has a tiny bug)

*2023-04-06, version 1.492*

I love this app. After many ham-inactive years it helped me get my pencil copy from ~12 wpm to 20 wpm. It also helped me fill in some gaps in the punctuation marks. That worked really great. I could turn on just the ones that needed work. Since then I have been working on head copy. It has proved a struggle. I alternate between Morse Code Ninja podcasts at 28 wpm and Ham Morse in QSO mode at 20 wpm. QSO mode is great, too; very realistic. I wish I could set Ham Morse to keep sending when the app is “asleep”, i.e. when the app screen is not displayed. Downcast will do this for podcast listening. It saves battery drain and makes the app immune to inadvertent screen touches. The bug: In Punctuation mode the app will not play the double quote: “ I have tried it with other punctuation marks, and with just the double quote selected. The “ marks show up in the text display, but you don’t hear them. Devices: iPhone 13, iOS 16.4; iPhone 6S, iOS 15.7.3; iPad Pro 10.5, iPad OS 16.3.1

### 5/5 — CW morse

*2022-07-15*

I love this app as i am keen to improve my morse recieving. This app is the best , up until a week ago . Now the app will not load on my iphone xr. I uninstalled and reinstalled but will not work . Dissapointed.

**Developer response:** Hi there - please try the new version 1.490 that came out yesterday, this should address the issue you are describing. Please let me know if it doesn’t solve the problem and I’ll work with you to investigate further on your device.

### 5/5 — Great practicing app

*2022-07-13, version 1.485*

I like the various options to practice in a straight-forward manner. Today, however, the app suddenly stopped working even after reloading. Hopefully, it will resurrect! It’s been a great help.

**Developer response:** Hi there, can you tell me what iPhone model you have - I think the app’s UI logic js not handling certain screen sizes. It would be really helpful to know your model so I can confirm what might be going on and get a fix in place.

### 5/5 — App is no longer working on iPhone 10s

*2022-07-12, version 1.485*

This app has been the best Morse code training app but unfortunately it suddenly stopped working on my iPhone 10s running iOS 15.5.

### 5/5 — Highly Recommend!!!

*2022-06-29, version 1.470*

Excellent tool for learning Morse the correct way. I have no complaints or issues what so ever. The app is highly adjustable to your own personal needs. Tone, character WPM and total words per minute rate. You can choose to focus on just letters, numbers, punctuation, or ProSigns, etc. Be sure to read “So You Want To Learn Morse Code” by N1IRZ in the settings tab FIRST! It discusses the Koch method, which is the heart of learning the code.

Highly recommend Ham Morse!!!
