I highly recommend this to anyone doing POTA or portable operation of any kind. The only two CONs I can find are. 1. There is no way to import a log if you already deleted it, so don’t delete them. 2, no rig control. I am constantly forgetting to update frequently I’m on so I always have to go back and fix. ### 2/5 — Save Your Money - No Updates *2024-03-18* * QRZ Callsign lookup no longer working * Maps don’t appear to be working * POTA Prefixes changing soon Used to be a solid, quick-use option, but has fallen short over the course of the last year. Two stars for effort. Hope all is okay with the software designer, but cannot give it a thumbs up in its current state. Sorry for the poor review, but it is what it is. ### 4/5 — Great app with some room for excellence *2023-12-04* Layout on iPad and iPhone is excellent. Syncing between devices would be excellent as well as some sort of remote sync of logs with sites like qrz.com or any other appropriate logging sites. I’m excited to see what comes next. I would be happy to pay a monthly fee if those options arrived. ### 2/5 — Map is inop *2023-10-25* I got this app for the easy of logging QSO’s and to see a map of the contacts. Upon entering my data and that of the contacts the map is blank. I deleted the app and reloaded it just in case. No map regardless of what enter and I have verified the app does have access to my position in settings. Not happy ### 4/5 — Simple *2023-09-17* Thanks so much for keeping it simple. Which is not a hard problem. Apple offers it with iOS and qrz.com also offers it. Wound up with several calls at the same moment. If there was a satellite log template and an option to sync logbooks across devices/platforms and/or with LOtW or QRZ’s logging system (for which I’d happily pay), I’d give it 5 stars without hesitation. ### 4/5 — Numerical Keyboard *2022-05-04* Absolutely spot on - extended number keyboard - now I can ditch my physical keyboard and reduce weight whilst portable. this app after a shaky start is going from strength to strength, thank you ### 5/5 — A brilliant lightweight logbook for use in the UK *2021-08-21* I’ve been looking for a lightweight IOS logbook I can use out in the field for SOTA events for ages. At last, I have found it. HAMRS meets the requirements of a fast and easy logger and then some. The fields are large and easy to see in daylight, as is what I type - something that’s been a problem with other logbooks I’ve tried. Creating multiple logs for multiple summits is so easy and when I activated three summits in one day recently it really helped that if you name each logbook according to the summit you’re activating the name of the log sits large and proud at the top of the screen - enabling you to ‘remember’ the summit reference with ease during contacts. I say lightweight, but it does have some great additional features; it’s funny how I know the names of the stations I’m contacting and their locations within seconds of making contact and those stations are often asking me, ‘have we worked before?’. No, it’s just my logging software pulls certain data from online callbooks if you’re fortunate enough to have internet access. Uploading files to the SOTA database is very easy and I can import the adif files it generates into my main RUMlogNG logbook with ease. Being on an Apple infrastructure makes this a doddle as the files are saved to my cloud drive so they’re on my desktop computer before I get home. I have also used the software for operating away from home on field days and when camping on holiday. The different templates adapt the logbook to the particular use to which it’s being put, so irrelevant data entry fields are revealed/hidden according to the template chosen. This software works on my iPad, iPhone, MacBook, Mac Mini and Windows laptop. This means that I will be using it for our next club event and getting my fellow club members familiar with it. This logbook is worth every penny. Sure, I have a wish-list as long as my arm, but if it were to be implemented fully then it’d no longer be lean, quick and lightweight and I’d be complaining. It fits the bill exactly and is great for use in the UK, and anywhere else outside the US I suspect. Enjoy. ### 2/5 — Looks promising but… *2021-08-09* Looks to be a great log book for portable use, however it is very USA and Canada centric and not of great use outside that continent. Export ADIF?? Won’t be using and will return to RumLog which is a little over the top for out in the field use but does the job. So save your money if you are outside N America. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Export problems *2024-12-03* Seeing lots of positive mentions of this software, I thought I would give it a try. It works at accepting and storing QSO details but it is useless to me because I cannot export the log (adi) file via Gmail on my iPad. I found plenty of other users that started to complain about this in October, 2024. When you try to export via Gmail the app states that Gmail will not accept the adi file as an attachment. So, for me, this was a waste of$5 and a few hours of installing, using, and troubleshooting. ### 1/5 — Was Great *2024-03-03* This was once a great program for POTA logging but the developers lack of updates has made it all but useless. It does not have the capability of recognizing parks over -9999 and if not updated soon will not recognize any park numbers. I hope it is updated because it has the potential to be the perfect logging tool for POTA. ### 1/5 — Updates needed. *2024-02-01* I wish I had known this app wasn't being supported anymore when I bought it a month ago. Feeling ripped off. Lots of new parks near me but this app is useless for them. Wish I could get my money back. ### 1/5 — NEEDS A FIVE DIGIT PARK UPDATE *2023-12-01* Come on man… you can do better… This app WORKED great until five digit parks hit the USA…. Now not so much. Please update the app!!! Until then it is PAPER AND PENCIL for me!!!! ### 1/5 — Drops logged contacts *2022-01-12, version 0.11.6* Beware of this app’s known bug. It drops contacts from the log unexpectedly. My last log went from 96 POTA contacts to 79 overnight. Fortunately I had already exported and reported to POTA and QRZ. A logging program should not have this problem- especially if it is already known to the developers. ### 1/5 — Terrible, loses logs and the developer knows about it *2022-01-05, version 0.11.6* I wasn’t going to use this app because it’s well known to lose logs or partial logs but I was in a jam. Downloaded it in the field and it lost 70 of my contacts. I wasn’t touching it, my phone was just sitting on the table and it went white for 2 seconds and then the log showed a much lower total contact number. The developer has confirmed the issues but is still selling it on various app stores which is asinine. ### 1/5 — Beautiful app, but it loses your work *2021-10-01, version 0.11.3* I’ll update this review if the developer fixes the issue with specific QSOs and entire logs disappearing from the application. During the activation, the app worked great. Clearly the developer has put a lot of thought into making an app that can log QSOs in real time in field conditions. But once I was done with the activation, the logbook with 84 contacts vanished. Multiple people have reported to FB and the support forum that that QSOs are lost from their logbook, or that entire logbooks are lost. Reports to the support forum went unacknowledged, then were closed to comments after three weeks. If you’re okay with the app potentially wasting hours of your time, give it a whirl. But if you value your time, consider using a less elegant, but reliable, solution. I look forward to trying the app again when it’s fixed. And once it works, I’ll gladly pay for the upgrade. ### 1/5 — So many QSOs lost *2021-09-04, version 0.11.3* I’ve lost so many QSO records using this app. Buyer beware. Multiple times. It is very simple to learn and use for logging contacts in POTA. It’s progressed from being quite buggy and lightweight to a really serious contender for #1 logging app. I use this to log my contacts once I get off the hill, but I feel like I could probably use it in real time now that it’s matured. I like being able to enter the times retrospectively, and I also like the extended keyboard for entering callsigns. It could be useful to have it on the MGR as well, as it seemed to only be available on the callsign. ### 5/5 — The only logger needed!! *2022-12-30, version 1.0.6* Recently found POTA and having HAMRS has saved my bacon a couple times while in an activation. The design is exactly what’s needed to organize a log while working through a massive pile up! One aspect that would be largely beneficial is having them sync across all devices, so no matter what you have with you, all QSOs are there. ### 5/5 — Works very well but could use a few additions *2022-08-17* This app is fantastic - I’ve been using it for SOTA and it works exceptionally well and looks good - logs can be uploaded right to the SOTA website. A couple things I’d like: * When I set my call sign as /P, it seems to need to be modified on EVERY QSO, which is very time consuming. I just edit the ADI file after now. * There is no notes field for a QSO - why not? Seems pretty critical! * The name field seems to default to all capitals - sort of annoying. ### 5/5 — Looks like a great way to log POTA *2022-04-08, version 1.0.5* This may make my field paper logging easier. This isn’t that but a very functional logger for operating in portable locations, including POTA. First time use observations: - Creates a log for each event we participate in. - Great for Duplicate contact checking - My data is set once for this activation - QRZ.com integration is awesome Stuff that I’d like to see improved - Dark Mode since all that white display background drains my older iPad’s battery - sort contacts by date/time. I needed to edit a few contact’s frequency and they were scattered in the log. - scroll bar if fields don’t fit in box. I lost the Frequency & Mode fields until I realized I could scroll the My Info box. ### 5/5 — Great job…quick suggestion *2021-10-27, version 0.11.5* Thank you for the great app. Suggested by K8MRD! I have one suggestion: the app I was using before, HamLog, which was far inferior to this app for POTA logging, did have one feature that I appreciated…having a keyboard change when entering a call that included a set of numbers instead of the suggested words above the QWERTY keyboard. This would help in inputting callsigns quite a bit, since you wouldn’t have to switch to numbers and then back to letters. ### 5/5 — It’s Awesome! *2021-10-24, version 0.11.4* I just downloaded this app as I was leaving the house. I did my 4th POTA activation (K-2201) today and, while I didn’t log as I went along, I was able to quickly and easily transpose my paper log afterwards. It’s very clean and polished. Pretty great for an early stages app! I look forward to seeing what’s coming down the road. Great work so far!
