## What is Hanadokei?

An iPhone app that puts a small living scene on your home screen.

Your step count moves it along. A seed sprouts, buds form, and the
flower opens — one stage at a time, from walking alone.

The pot follows the real world. Clear, cloudy, or rain shows up in
the scene, and the light shifts in direction and colour as the hours
pass. Every plant is modelled in 3D, so you can turn it with a finger
and look from any angle.

■ What you can do

- Flower clock widget: the time, the date, your steps, and the plant
in bloom, all on your home screen
- Choose the clock's typeface from four
- Weather in the scene: clear, cloudy, and rain each look different
- Light through the day: morning to evening, and a lamp after dark
- 19 plants from around the world: Rose, Tulip, Daisy, Lavender,
Sunflower, Poppy, Columnar Cactus, Lily of the Valley,
Baby Blue Eyes, Japanese Morning Glory, Money Tree, Japanese Maple,
Cherry Blossom, Baobab, Ginkgo, Hydrangea, Cosmos, Narcissus, Pansy
- Where each one comes from, and what ten of the flowers have
  traditionally meant
- Six stages from sprout to full bloom, moved only by your steps
- A collection shelf where finished plants stand side by side
- A step diary: keep a day, with the place and the weather beside it
- Automatic step counting through Apple HealthKit

■ Who it's for

- Anyone who wants their home screen to look like their own
- Anyone tired of a step counter that is only a number
- Anyone who would like something quiet to show for the walking
- Anyone drawn to plants and trees from around the world
- Anyone worn out by pushy notifications and ads
- Anyone looking for a collection app that stays calm

■ How one pot goes

1. Connect Apple Health and your steps are counted automatically
2. Keep walking, and the plant moves through its stages
3. Six stages, from first sprout to full bloom
4. The finished plant joins your collection
5. Plant the next one and keep collecting

■ Privacy

Step data is read from Apple HealthKit and processed on your device.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5.0 — 2026-08-26

■ Choose your pot

You can now pick a pot from Customize.
Two to choose from: Terracotta and Porcelain White.

Your choice shows on the home screen widget and on the plant in the app.
Plants in your collection are a record — they stay in the same pot, whatever you pick.
When you share, you can choose the pot on the share screen.

■ Growth plays back smoothly

The growth you see when you open the app has been rebuilt.
The plant used to jump at the moment it moved to the next stage.
Now it grows through without the jump.

■ Also in this version

- The plant in the widget sits a little lower, so it no longer touches the top edge

### 2.4.0 — 2026-08-24

■ Tap Grow to move to the next stage

Once you have walked far enough, a Grow button appears on the plant.
Tap it, and the plant moves to its next stage.

Until now it advanced on its own as soon as the steps were there.
From this version it waits for the tap.
If several stages' worth has built up, you can tap through them.

Right after updating, you may find a plant already waiting to grow.
A plant that looks stuck is not a bug — try the button.

### 2.3.0 — 2026-08-20

Toko Bonsai is now HANADOKEI.

■ The 2D bonsai have been retired
The illustrated bonsai are discontinued as of this update.
Bonsai you finished before now no longer appear in your collection.
Anything still in progress will run through to its final stage.

■ Nine new plants, modelled in 3D
Cherry blossom, Japanese maple, ginkgo, hydrangea, cosmos, narcissus,
pansy, money tree, and baobab — nineteen in all.
Turn any of them with a finger and look from whatever angle you like.

■ The scene follows the weather and the hour
Clear, cloudy, rain. Light shifts in direction and colour from morning to evening.

Also in this version
- A lamp warms the pot after dark
- Redesigned in a neutral palette, with Dark Mode support
- Your collection now stands on a 3D shelf
- The diary is bound into one book spanning every month, with quick jumps between them
- Write a diary entry from 2,000 steps (was 3,500)
- A new app icon

### 2.2.0 — 2026-08-06

Flowers, now growing in your pot.

Alongside the bonsai you've been tending, you can now grow flowering plants — ten species including roses, tulips, and sunflowers. Each one sprouts, buds, and opens as you walk. Rendered in 3D, so you can turn it with a finger and look closer.

- Ten flower species, with entries in the catalog and collection
- Light shifts with the hour — morning sun, dusk, a lamp at night
- A clock on the widget
- A redesigned share card that gathers your days into a single record

The days you walked become the record itself.

### 2.1.1 — 2026-07-26

・Bug fixes and improvements
Fixed an issue where the keyboard would not dismiss when tapping outside of it on the diary entry screen. Added a "Done" button above the keyboard to make finishing your entry easier.
