### 2/5 — New Update

*2026-08-05, version 1.0.3*

The latest update has made the game SUPER unbalanced! It doesn’t feel like the perfect balance of skill and luck anymore. It’s a real shame.

### 3/5 — too many ads block flow

*2026-08-04*

well built game but obtrusive ads make it no fun

### 3/5 — Feels like playing against an entitled brat.

*2025-08-02*

The mechanics are solid, but the points system makes the entire thing feel like playing against an entitled brat who stacks the rules against you and insists that you have to keep playing until they win. As a result none of the achievements actually feel like achievements and the fun is sucked out of the whole experience.

There's way better ways to feel frustrated if you really want to.

*2025-07-10, version 1.0.2*

### 3/5 — Nice Game

*2024-08-08, version 1.0.2*

For those just getting into Hanafuda this is a great game with helpful hits in play.

Adding a 3, 6, and 12 round game would complete this game.

### 3/5 — Overall Good Game

*2024-08-03*

But when you start making good points, somehow the bot have tons Moon Viewing and Blossom Viewing one after another.

### 3/5 — Difficult Endless Koi Koi

*2023-07-21*

Not a very balanced game. Since the goal is to accumulate as many life points as possible to keep playing, the AI will constantly make choices to whittle away your life points no matter how little. It will not make reckless moves or consider to give you a chance.

The game is okay for people who want to play on a really difficult version of koi koi but it stops being fun after 100 games.

Too many ads with little reward. The AI ‘coincidentally’ gets better combos than you do and revs up in aggression/luck when you get near S-rank (120 points). I made it to 116 points in one round with 50+ life and the AI began winning over and over until it was 0.

### 4/5 — Enjoying the game! Wish I could remove ads though.

*2022-10-31*

I pretty much never write reviews (this might be my second one ever), but I felt like chiming in on this one. I really have no idea what I’m doing, but the game moves along quickly, and I’m just there for the ride. If I could change one thing about the game, I’d add a small fee to remove ads. Just a few bucks. That would make me even happier with the game. Regardless, it’s a lot of fun, and I hope I will someday understand what’s going on.

### 1/5 — Can’t see my cards due to ad placement!!!

*2026-08-07*

I used to LOVE this app - this app is how I learned how to play Koi-koi, and where I fell in love with the game, to the point that I was inspired to design my own Hanafuda cards for friends! The layout is simple, the mechanics are good for beginners and still helpful once you’ve played for a while. I also love the paintings reward system, as a little incentive to level up your playing, as well as expanding the world of the app, and making the process of playing feel like it’s something bigger.

However, recently I have become increasingly disappointed with this app.

My first and long-standing issue is with the points: losing life points from BOTH losing a round AND every time you play a card is too much. It makes it impossible to extend a run on just small victories if your luck is bad but your strategy is good. A great koi-koi hand for you can only serve to buy you time, and winning a round can still drain you of life. Meanwhile, the computer can get one great hand and in one fell swoop end an otherwise promising run.

This is frustrating, but I always treated it as an eccentricity of the app, and motivation to get better at the game.

Which brings me to issue number two: the app started showing me adds a while ago, during the games. This is annoying, but I understand it’s a part of how things are now. The developers need to make a living, I don’t begrudge them that. I wish I could buy an option to get rid of ads, I’d gladly spend money on that, but if that doesn’t support their work enough financially, I understand.

Until recently, the ads hovered over the opponent’s cards, in the top left corner of the screen. This was fine, since the opponent’s cards are turned over, so the ad didn’t block anything. Now, though, the ads appear in the lower left, directly over MY cards - making it impossible to view my cards LET ALONE PLAY THEM. The app is now unplayable!

To the developers - please fix this!!

I don’t want to move to a different app, but I’m not going to stop playing a game I’ve fallen in love with. Especially when this app is what drove that love in the first place!

### 1/5 — Was Good, Got Greedy

*2026-08-04*

A nice miniature version of koi koi with a decent life system until they added an ad banner right in front of your hand. Seriously?

### 1/5 — Update ruined the game

*2026-07-30*

Until two days ago there were zero adds, and the resolution of the game was perfect and it looked and ran fine, now there is a splash add every screen change, an add bar at the bottom of the screen covering where your hand is during game play. And the resplution has made every card look terrible. Sad cause this game was great, think i might have even paid for no adds before the update.

### 1/5 — Ads have spyware

*2026-06-11*

Newly added advertisements in the game are contain links to spyware. I am uninstalling.

### 1/5 — Rigged Losses

*2025-06-26*

CPU player somehow almost always pulls off the combos back to back with ease

For example: It plays to get the Sake card, then the next card is often either the Moon or Sakura Festival card(s); sometimes it often get both!

### 1/5 — Computer cheats

*2025-04-25*

I dont care if the game is luck based, the sheer amount of times the computer player gets “lucky” with the top card comboing or just having better cards in the starting hand, is just ridiculous. Its like trying to beat yami yugi in yugioh, hes cheating so theyre literally no way you can win because hes just gonna draw literally whatever he needs. Terrible ai, only good thing is how fast it loads.

### 1/5 — Incredibly Unbalanced

*2024-06-27*

While I don’t consider myself a Koi Koi expert, the AI on this game is so challenging to the point where it’s not fun to play at all. At best I can make 1 point combos, but the AI can build different brights/light variations and manages to always snag the sake cup. I had to delete this app because it got to the point where I knew what card the AI would “magically” pick up and win the round.

### 1/5 — CPU absolutely cheats

*2024-06-21, version 1.0.2*

the random algorithm of this game is not random and the CPU absolutely gets the draws.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The best!

*2025-10-31, version 1.0.2*

I love this app! Hanafuda without any bloated ads or funny business! It is engaging and has a progression system! Its the best app in all honesty!

### 5/5 — Amo esse jogo!

*2024-07-25*

Os desenhos são lindos. A estética é agradável.

### 5/5 — Exactly what you’re looking for!

*2024-05-22, version 1.0.2*

Honestly the best hanafuda experience!

### 5/5 — Fun

*2023-06-10*

This actually is pretty fun. It is a bit of luck that you need for the cards but you definitely can win if you pay attention to the cards that are played and the combinations that you need to win.

### 5/5 — Lol.. bunch of crybabies.

*2022-03-16*

I literally win all the time. Average rounds are past 12. If you’re losing, you probably just don’t know how to play well. Go buy a different app.

### 5/5 — Child porn

*2021-09-15*

I wouldn’t even give this a one star aside from the fact that I absolutely was so happy when I found the game in English. However the most recent ad that came up between games was of a barely 18-year-old young woman with a backdrop of preschool kids drawings and she was half clothed. Please give your public the respect of believing that perhaps mature educated women would like to play this game and are not thrilled or appreciative of your child porn ads! It is 2021! Get a grip and an education.

### 4/5 — What it needs to be

*2025-01-31*

A lovely little version of koi koi that has some nice elements like organizing the cards and listing the different combos you are close to making and giving some cute little meta progression with collectible art you can get for scoring high enough. I just wish there was a way I could like, pay to get rid of ads so I could play offline without service or Wi-Fi like when I am flying or camping

### 4/5 — It was better

*2024-02-15*

There’s too many ads now but I still like it

### 4/5 — CPU seems a little too lucky

*2023-07-04*

I love this app, and I love that it’s in English. The painting collection is a fun little gimmick that I don’t mind — I like seeing artwork that I haven’t seen before! My only complaint is that the CPU seems to be a little *too* lucky. I understand that the game isn’t only luck based, and is also strategy based. However, it is not uncommon for me to play several rounds in a row with complete garbage in my hand, whereas the CPU has a wonderful hand and wins almost immediately, giving me no chance to win. It makes me question if the cards are actually dealt at random or not.
Other than that, it’s still fun and challenging to play, and I love the game.

### 4/5 — Lucky bastard AI

*2023-01-20*

The game is all about luck of the draw and playing the right cards, but i hate the stupid points system, i would much rather a best 4/5 or something, i don’t mind that people play like that, but i wish they’d give more options. something else that’d be nice is a more customizable playing top, maybe instead of tatami give the option for a table? or maybe on cobblestone and such, it’s a good game with lots of potential. I feel like the AI could use work as well, as sometimes I feel like it’s just the right level of challenging and sometimes I feel like it’s just cut throat, I feel like a few different types of game modes would be nice.

Ex:

Casual, best 2/3 - 5/6 type of deal, nothing crazy, and give that gamemode an easy or ballsy AI.

Competitive, the game we have now, gives you rewards in the form of commissions, which are only achieved via competitive, but you have lives and points which wouldn’t be present in the casual.

Online, as the name suggests find a way to make it multiplayer, i’d recommend letting people have the options of Moon/Blossom viewing in the multiplayer menu because I can see how some people would get tired of that quickly.
