### 3/5 — Hints

*2022-08-14, version 1.1.2*

Is there a way to turn off card hints.

### 3/5 — Fix the music interruption

*2022-07-19, version 1.1.2*

Every time an ad pops up or you get a game over, your music will get repeatedly interrupted. Infuriating, & needs to be fixed immediately.

### 3/5 — The only game I play on my phone... in spite of the flaws!

*2021-03-28, version 1.1.0*

Ads that won’t load, ads that crash this app, ads that BLARE sound at you, apps that feature some lame kids game......
It spite of all these I still enjoy the game. PLEASE ADD A QUIET MODE!!!!!! The video ads have disgusting sound levels (& crappy music choices).

### 3/5 — Eh

*2021-01-15, version 1.0.9*

Yeah it’s koi koi but there’s no way to win, you just keep going until you lose.

### 2/5 — Great app (except for ad audio interruption)

*2020-03-06, version 1.0.5*

Edit March 2020: The audio from the ads is now taking over and I can’t listen to my radio and even open the game at the same time without my radio turning itself off. This significantly reduces the enjoyment of playing. ☹️ And now banner ads are turning up during game play which gets in the way of the game and turns off game audio even when I’m not listening to the radio. It’s making game play in a formerly great app tedious. And a bit ironically when I went back to try the game again after posting this the game had CRASHED - black screen - but the ad was still playing. I was trying the game again thinking that the ads can’t be that annoying but they really are becoming all intrusive.

Original 5 star review:11/11/19 Excellent app, good gameplay and easy to see cards. My only issue is that I can’t find a way to pay for the app to get rid of the ads. While the ads are minimal, they happen at the end of a match and if I’m listening to audio the ads take over the sound and stop my audio. That’s irritating particularly if you’re listening to live radio and can’t replay what you’ve missed. But other than that this is a great app.

### 2/5 — Reasonable game play annoying ads

*2019-05-26, version 1.0.3*

Ads cover the play area and detract from play

### 2/5 — Needs better description of points.

*2018-07-14, version 1.0.2*

The first version was easy to understand. Please explain the rules and points better. I’m not even sure if I win or loose!

### 2/5 — Bad Terminology

*2017-06-30, version 1.0.1*

Hanafuda are the name of the cards, not the game, and Koi-Koi isn't 'rules', it's a play style and t's own game. If your going to pretend you know what your talking about, do a bit of revision first.

### 1/5 — Rigged for more ads

*2016-11-28, version 1.0.1*

After having played this for a couple of days, I'm convinced it's rigged against you so that it can show more ads between games.

### 4/5 — Shiitake

*2015-03-02, version 1.0.0*

This has been a great game for introducing me to this wonderful game. Since I got this game I have actually bought a real hanafuda deck and I am looking forward to sharing this game with others.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — House always wins

*2024-05-01, version 1.1.4*

The computer is so stacked against you to make you lose so it can run an ad.

### 1/5 — Blocks Iphone in the current version.

*2022-08-27, version 1.1.2*

Worked in the older versions but the current one completely blocked my phone with endless pop-up messages. Had to force restart.
Needless to say I’d strongly suggest NOT to download or use this app.

### 1/5 — Game setting

*2022-02-17, version 1.1.2*

Like the old game. Old game can play 3, 6, or 12 months (hands). Never played using this scoring system in Japan or Korea.

### 1/5 — Ads

*2021-10-08, version 1.1.0*

This app has a lot of pornographic ads, so I wouldn’t recommend for family use.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2019-12-04, version 1.0.4*

The first version was much easier to understand. Is there no tutorial option?

And why are my points actually ticking down within a round every time I play a card in my hand? I was winning but my points went from 20 to 0 in 4 rounds anyway, and I have no idea why!

I’m uninstalling this tonight by the way. If the point system weren’t so annoying I would have kept it

### 1/5 — Ads?????

*2018-06-04, version 1.0.2*

I get ads but give me the option to buy ad free version

### 1/5 — If I only knew Hangul or Japanese

*2018-04-04, version 1.0.2*

I ONLY play this version because I’m can’t read any Asian language. The previous version was WAY better graphics-wise and gameplay. I don’t know why they messed up something that worked so well. I learned to play on v1, while this version doesn’t make it easy to learn. BRING BACK THE OLD VERSION!!! Or at least make this one better. A Hangul (Korean) version in the App Store looks like fun but I don’t get the nuances to make it fun for me. A Japanese version looks good but again, I can’t read the kanji.

### 1/5 — Worse than 1st Version

*2018-03-09, version 1.0.2*

Played the original app and loved it. Then one day the app stops working because it’s no longer supported by newer iOS. So download this new version — and it’s horrible!

They took away options, made the interface worse, and even took away functionality. Why would you take stuff away in the newer version?

Super disappointed that an app I loved is now gone and replaced with this nonsense.

### 1/5 — Misrepresented in the description

*2018-02-22, version 1.0.2*

It boasts that in other versions you only get to play 6 - 12 hands, but this version you get to play for a high score. First: that claim is not true. You play for like 1 minute loose and game over. Cue the commercial; and second what’s to stop anyone from playing another round? No one is stopping you from having more fun. Ohh wait this game is. Because it’s bad!

### 1/5 — Disappointing Hanafuda App

*2017-10-09, version 1.0.2*

Nice graphics but I’m convinced this app is rigged so a player can’t get very many hands in before he/she loses all points and ends up with a very low score. I’ve played this card game using another mobile app and scored much higher. Also the app will not allow you to change the player level from easy to more difficult or vice versatile. Needs a lot of improvement.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good for beginners

*2026-01-19, version 1.1.4*

Plays a good game, with rules in English.

### 5/5 — PEAK

*2025-10-29, version 1.1.4*

I LOVE hanafuda but I don’t have the cards to play the game so this is perfect!

### 5/5 — Hanafuda2

*2024-06-04, version 1.1.4*

A great game, it seems a little unfair that every time you lay a card down you lose a point

### 5/5 — Great Game and Achievements System!

*2023-08-24, version 1.1.4*

Just recently got addicted to Koi Koi and this game (almost) has it all! Good art style, very visible cards. Very much appreciate the detail of pointing out which cards you can play. Figuring that out always takes me the most time. Glad that Sakura viewing and Moon viewing can be turned off because those sets are too powerful.
I love the achievements system. There are so many things to do so there’s always a goal to shoot for even over multiple games.
The change in rules from 2-player koi koi to this 1-player game are very fun, and the records of high scores give me motivation to beat my best.
The only change I would want is to add the flower of the month set and have an indicator on the right half of the screen showing which month/flower it is for the current round. With that, maybe a 12-round mode could also be added.
There are also a few visual bugs when you score too many bright/animal/ribbon cards and they start to overlap with the cards in your hand. Maybe in this case, the scored cards could overlap a little with each other, showing half of each card. That would be preferable to covering up the cards you have yet to play.
Despite these minor problems, it’s a great game and I’m having a lot of fun.

### 5/5 — Good

*2020-12-31, version 1.0.9*

It’s a good game and the ads don’t get in the way the one thing I don’t understand though is the points system but apart from that good game

### 5/5 — Good

*2020-07-12, version 1.0.7*

Clean layout and detailed rule set makes it easy to pick up. Ads only really cover achievement unlocks so isn’t a problem. Great f2p app.

### 5/5 — Not updating

*2020-06-22*

Not updating to last update on iPad 4 iOS 10.3.3, on iPhone 6 iOS 12.4.6 updating successfully.

### 4/5 — 对手拿的牌每一局都很好

*2024-11-06*

己方的来牌太差了

### 4/5 — The house always wins

*2022-08-01, version 1.1.2*

The point system is so confusing and is stacked against the player so the game is over even when the score is high. Just go back to the 6 month or 12 month play format, it’s fairer.

### 4/5 — Pretty fun

*2019-04-30, version 1.0.3*

I know the gist of the cards and how to play I’m still trying to memorize all the winning hands but one thing I don’t understand is how the game over works I’m trying to figure it out but it’s so odd
