But the app is mainly functional when it comes to checking balances and making payments. Except today, when I needed to set up a new payee. I had the details in WhatsApp so needed to toggle between that and the banking app to add the info. But every time I did, it wiped everything I’d already added. I don’t remember it doing this before - and it’s not an unlikely thing that the info I need will be somewhere else in my phone, which makes wiping the screen nonsensical. Not sure why this is happening, but I can’t understand why the developers thought it would make things easier. It doesn’t. ### 3/5 — Good but frustrating *2024-08-01, version 5.9.0* I mostly like the app. However it seems to decide I have a network error and am not connected to the internet every few days. Not related to actual network access. Have to switch phone off and reset each time. Annoying. Thankfully hasn’t happened when authorising online expenditure. But only a matter of time. ### 3/5 — New version *2021-04-17, version 4.1.0* The Log in/ Pin Number bar needs to moved up marginally (iPhone version ) because it interferes with the data input. No such problem on the iPad version. Otherwise good functionality and does what’s required. ### 3/5 — Basic *2020-02-09, version 3.2.2* Reliable app but missing features that should be there- > Face or fingerprint recognition > ApplePay > Real time transactions out of hours ### 3/5 — Very basic *2018-11-01, version 3.1.0* It works, it’s a banking app, but compare it to almost any other bank and it’s way behind. There’s no fingerprint login, no updates to balances outside working hours (even internal transfers) no pending transactions, no ability to add payees, and there’s still a card reader!? Even HSBC\ First Direct moved on from that. Plus the general functionality/ usability of it is clunky. It feels like each element has been built in silos and not as one cohesive tool, and not from the perspective of the end user. It’s way behind others.. and what about Apple Pay too? ### 4/5 — Good *2018-10-04, version 3.0.1* Good functionality but would be really great to be able to do transfers to new payees on a phone without a card reader, even if this was just for purchases under £30. ### 2/5 — Needs work *2018-06-21, version 3.0.0* Whilst this app works “okay”, it is a bit retro and reminds me of the early days of online banking. It is not user friendly and requires some updates to bring it into 2018. Some ideas for improvement: - Face/Touch ID (most other banking apps have this, it’s not a difficult request) - Ability to pay new payees not just saved ones ### 3/5 — Needs improving *2017-06-22, version 2.2.0* This is app is good but not totally useful. You cannot transfer to new beneficiaries, only saved ones. Which is annoying, I cannot always log onto computer to add a new beneficiary with my card reader. Transfers either take longer to process or longer to show up. Balance updates are slow. Not sure if this is a Handelsbanken thing or an app thing, but transfers to and from the accounts never work outside of standard banking hours e.g. Weekends. Would be an amazing app if they looked into that. I avoid using it to be honest. ### 4/5 — Very easy and secure *2017-05-31, version 2.2.0* I have used this app for a few months having used Lloyds and HSBC and I like this the best. Nope. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Works one day not the next! *2024-07-17, version 5.9.0* Temperamental app, works one time & not the other time, it reminds me of an abacus & a calculator, this being the abacus, I think cavemen were more up to date, basically a poor app! ### 1/5 — Would give 0 stars if I could! *2024-06-23, version 5.8.0* The app never works. Each time you try to log on you’re met with multiple error messages. It takes several attempts at entering your passcode to actually gain access to your accounts. Embarrassing for a private bank! ### 1/5 — So many bugs *2023-12-20* Technical error, no network access, unknown errors galore. Works about 1 out of every 10-15 logins. Spent 20 minutes on the phone with HB support and still can’t get the app to work. Not sure how often it updates numbers in the app (might be a day late) ### 1/5 — Outdated *2020-08-19, version 3.2.2* - No face ID or fingerprint recognition software unlike barclays or similar banks - No apple pay yet when many banks that operate in the uk offer this service - Outdated, basic design - The whole service needs a drastic overhaul ### 2/5 — Poor *2026-03-23, version 6.7.0* I mean it’s a banking app, it just about works but it’s clunky and time consuming, not up to a par with modern apps But by far the BIGGEST annoyance is setting up a new payee, it wipes the screen if you toggle to a different app. This is a huge security issue because often you want to copy / paste account and reference numbers (esp long ones) rather than type them in but you basically can’t with this app. There is nothing other than shoddy engineering behind this, it’s totally possibly and almost every modern app allows this Needs to be addressed urgently, someone is going to loose money due to this ### 2/5 — Very Limited *2021-01-20, version 4.1.0* This app is functional for a banking app & does exactly what you need it to do. However it is in the dark ages when it comes to technology and other banks - FaceID, ApplePay, no pending account balance, paying people (without using a card reader to set them up) & a number of other features which are lagging behind the market place. Significant advancements are required for them to keep up with the market/advancing tech world... ### 2/5 — Way Behind *2018-07-13, version 3.0.0* This app is a long way behind competitor offerings. It’s missing the following: 1) Fingerprint login 2) Ability to add payees 3) Ability to change standing orders And daily payments are limited to £3,000—a fair bit below what competitor apps allow. Only useful thing would be if we could add new recipients for payments. Another user in their review complains that transfers between Accounts do not show up until the next day. That is because you cannot physically transfer between Accounts with HB outside of normal working hours.
