### 5/5 — Needs a video explanation after each problem

*2017-06-04, version 3.7.3*

Some problems don't match the explanation overall works OK

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2015-09-27, version 3.6*

I've always struggled with algebra. If you are a visual learner this will help you.

### 5/5 — I see the light!

*2015-04-10, version 3.5*

I now understand! My 6th graders are getting it, too! What a great introduction to this difficult subject!

### 5/5 — If only...

*2015-03-02, version 3.5*

I'd had this program at 14 years old, I'd have gone much farther in both mathematics and chemistry in high school.

### 5/5 — I get it!

*2014-12-16, version 3.5*

Incredible! I've never done well in algebra and always regretted it. Now, at 39, I finally understand!!! Thanks to Hands On Algebra 😃

### 5/5 — Clear and easy to follow

*2014-12-16, version 3.5*

My young son finds this stimulating and fun as well as informative. I sometimes have to help him with the exercises but he can do most of it independently. The videos are good and he often refers back to them if he gets stuck. This alongside Dragon Box is a great way to introduce young kids to algebra. The beauty of this app is that it helps kids understand the need to balance both sides of the equation.

### 5/5 — Wonderful educational app!

*2014-05-06, version 3.4*

This app is easy to use and a great hands on explanation of Algebra. My son loved level one and is now loving level two.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2014-04-26, version 3.4*

My 8 yr old loves this app and can't get enough.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2014-01-25, version 3.3*

I'm a teacher that has to teach this to my students. I've learned so quickly and feel prepared to teach hands-on equations.

### 5/5 — Great learning tool / app

*2014-01-14, version 3.3*

Very easy to understand instructions.

The best I've seen.

Every lesson makes me want to learn more.

Thanks for a great program.

:D

### 5/5 — The next level

*2014-01-09, version 3.3*

If you enjoyed Hands On level 1, then you will also appreciate this. Truly help your child to understand algebraic thinking and how to work through various equations. I wish I had this in 8th grade, but my kids will certainly benefit. Thank you Mr. Borenson!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Too glitchy

*2025-08-20*

The Lesson 12 equations are too hard, and I cannot even understand the tutorials, because of too much jargon, even the Lesson 8 tutorials. I’m Cassie and I’m a math fanatic. Lesson 10 is also too easy, make it harder so my brain explodes so I am stupid!

### 1/5 — Problems with this version

*2019-09-14, version 3.7.3*

There is a glitch in lesson 9, it won’t accept a correct answer. I love the app but if if can’t advance students will get frustrated.

### 1/5 — Hands on equation 2

*2015-09-30, version 3.6*

Even though I purchased this ap (not a freebie) there is advertising on it and even more annoyingly the it doesn't work. I tried to enter the value of x but this turned the ap off. A total waste of money. Bye the way the free version worked so it's neither me nor my device.

### 2/5 — App not working

*2015-10-06, version 3.6*

This app doesn't work for iOS 9...kindly fix the issue where clicking on "value" placeholder crashes the app.

### 2/5 — Need volume

*2012-05-09, version 1.0*

Love the program and the concept. But the volume does not work on the app, so the videos are of little value.

### 3/5 — There’s A Bug in My Number Wheel!

*2025-11-08, version 3.7.7*

Recently, I really enjoyed this app and I use it my free time, but there is a bug that slows my completion streaks down. As you read on my review, you will learn why. First, I like to get it done quick, so once I see the confetti, I directly move on, but the lesson doesn’t count until you listen to all the music. Because of that I have to redo problems over, and it frustrates me when I don’t get to see the cartoons.

*2019-08-04, version 3.7.3*

Bring down the price

### 4/5 — Visual spatial learners

*2017-02-18, version 3.7.3*

I use this for my grade4 student along with Beast academy.

### 4/5 — Not working

*2015-09-22, version 3.6*

After iOS 9 upgrade this app is not working. Just bought this app yesterday.

### 4/5 — Great Review

*2014-07-24, version 3.4*

I tutor and teach. This is an excellent way to review basics.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easy, and well described

*2024-08-18, version 3.7.7*

The app was easy and fun to use, (speaking as an 11 Yo here btw) the guy whom made it described every step visually, and verbally. As he described it, he showed what to do on the app. Then you click “continue” and the lesson begins. It contains 3-4 practices after the explanation; then it goes into ten “lessons” before you are done. I reccomend this app to anybody struggling with algebra

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2022-04-04, version 3.7.6*

The developer needs to keep it going because this is the easiest way I’ve ever seen algebra explained and my brain likes it…

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-09-02, version 3.7.5*

Very good

### 5/5 — Very cool

*2020-11-09, version 3.7.4*

Amazing

### 5/5 — Wonderful App

*2020-08-29, version 3.7.4*

I only took 1 semester of intro to algebra in 7th grade, so not only did I not get enough, but that was over fifty years ago. So this app is a boost in the right direction. Very easy to learn. And they say you can’t teach old dogs...

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2020-05-28, version 3.7.4*

I am a 42 year old kinesthetic and visual learner with Asperger’s Syndrome. This helps think through the steps visually and manipulate the scale to solve the equations. I wish I had this when I first started to learn algebra.

### 5/5 — Pretty good

*2020-02-10, version 3.7.4*

So I use this a lot and it really helps me in algebra. I really recommend this app cus it will help you a lot.

### 5/5 — Great app.

*2019-02-04, version 3.7.3*

Great. Amazing. Those are the two describing words of this app.

### 5/5 — Kids enjoy it + kids learn = winner app!

*2018-01-25, version 3.7.3*

Kids enjoy it + kids learn = winner app!

### 5/5 — Makes algebra so simple

*2018-01-22, version 3.7.3*

Why? Why did my teachers not have this back in grade school? This would have changed my life. I was turned down from good paying jobs because I couldn’t do algebra. I was afraid of it because of terrible grade school experiences. Want to learn algebra, look no farther, you NEED this app. It’s so easy. I rarely give 5 stars to an app. Maybe it will change your life.
