## What is Hangul Tactica?

Hangul should not have to feel like homework—or a wall of symbols you are forced to memorize.

Hangul Tactica is a story-driven way to learn the Korean alphabet through guided play, active recall, and practice from different angles. Instead of beginning with isolated lists, you meet each new jamo inside an authored journey, learn how its shape and sound connect, move it, match it, recall it, and type it.

FOLLOW THE STORY CAMPAIGN

Begin with the Prologue and continue across 22 chapters and eight Court Tests. Characters, palace and village scenes, guided explanations, and tactical challenges introduce new signs step by step—from basic consonants and vowels to batchim and cluster finals.

LEARN BY DOING

• Glyph Slide — move Korean and Roman tiles together, then recall the hidden answer before the pair clears.
• Pair Rush — sharpen recognition and contrast by matching related signs under time pressure.
• Typing Drill — produce the answer in supported chapters instead of only recognizing it.
• Flashcards — strengthen the connection between each sign and its reading in either direction.
• Glyph Orbit — practice the same relationships through changing Hangul and Roman prompts.

Each mode approaches the same learning targets differently. Movement builds familiarity, matching trains recognition, hidden answers demand recall, and typing turns recognition into production.

RETURN TO CHAPTER PRACTICE

Return to chapters you have reached and choose the practice mode that suits the moment. Review a new sign slowly, test close contrasts, type from memory where supported, or revisit the same relationship from another prompt direction.

REVIEW WITH PURPOSE

Study Insights turns completed sessions into clear Overview and By Chapter summaries. It can identify repeated misses, weaker speed, incomplete coverage, and material that may need another pass. Recommended Review and the Review Queue help you decide what to revisit, while Review Now opens the suggested practice directly.

Recommendations are based on your completed study results.

UNDERSTAND HOW HANGUL WORKS

The Library goes beyond answer checking. Use Learning Guides and Chapter Companion to explore glyph names, readings, syllable structure, finals, clusters, and links back to relevant practice.

History & Culture includes a five-page editorial feature on Hunminjeongeum, alongside material about Hangul and King Sejong. Learn not only what the signs are, but how the writing system was designed and why it was created.

MAKE HANGUL PART OF THE DAY

On iPhone, an optional Hangul Clock turns Korean time into a small reading habit. See the current time in Korean, notice highlighted jamo, open Clock Lessons, and try Quick Recall.

Jamo Watch brings the same idea to Apple Watch. Read the current hour and minute in Korean, see the Roman reading, notice a glowing jamo, tap anywhere for one Quick Recall question, then return to the clock.

STUDY DEEPER ON MAC

Hangul Tactica for Mac offers a dedicated Study Desk for longer, focused sessions. My Planner and Daily Mission organize wider reading, physical-keyboard practice, Glyph Slide, Flashcards, Typing Drill, and Pair Rush. The Mac app maintains its own plan and study records as a distinct desktop learning environment.

Hangul Tactica is designed for learners who want a strong foundation in the Korean alphabet before moving deeper into reading, vocabulary, and grammar.

Learn through story. Practice through play. Remember through use.

Romanization note: the official romanization is “Hangeul,” but Hangul Tactica uses “Hangul” as its brand spelling.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-02

What's New in Version 1.3.0:

A New Story-Driven Hangul Tactica

Version 1.3.0 rebuilds Hangul Tactica around a complete Story Campaign, five Free Study modes, a new editorial Library, and clearer results-based review.

Begin with a cinematic Prologue, then continue through 22 chapters and eight Court Tests. Meet Sejong, Inji, villagers, guards, and scholars across palace, village, library, and court scenes. Each chapter combines guided explanations, Glyph Slide movement and recall, independent Proof Boards, Pair Rush, Typing Drill where supported, story endings, replay, and chapter-specific review.

Free Study now offers Flashcards, Glyph Slide, Pair Rush, Typing Drill, and Glyph Orbit. Glyph Slide adds randomized one- or two-chapter boards, custom Hangul and Roman input, wrong-answer rewind, and dedicated result scenes. Glyph Orbit is now fully available with Hangul Prompt and Roman Prompt. Completed Glyph Slide and Glyph Orbit sessions now contribute to Study Insights, including Overview, By Chapter, Recall Accuracy, recommendations, Review Queue, and prompt-aware Review Now.

The Library has been rebuilt as an editorial reading space with a revised Learning Guide, a complete Chapter Companion, expanded references, improved search, and a five-page History & Culture feature about Hunminjeongeum. The title screen and first-run Welcome Tour have also been renewed, Settings and Hangul Clock sheets redesigned, Hangul Clock can be shown or hidden from the title menu, and alternate app icons are now available.

The previous Legacy Campaign and iOS My Planner have been retired so the app can focus on Story Campaign, Free Study, Library, and Study Insights. This release also includes extensive localization, accessibility, audio, video, compact-device, performance, and reliability improvements.

Important: because the learning structure has been rebuilt, Version 1.3.0 performs a one-time reset of local learning progress. Full Access purchases and your language, appearance, and accessibility preferences are preserved. This update also turns BGM and SFX on once. Any changes you make to those settings afterward are preserved.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-06-23

What's New in Version 1.2.1:

Quick Recall Comes to Hangul Clock

Tap the glowing glyph in Hangul Clock to turn the clock face into a quick jamo quiz. Choose the matching romanization, receive immediate correct or incorrect feedback with sound when enabled, and return automatically to the clock.

The quiz keeps the selected glyph fixed while you answer and draws its choices from your available study range.

Free Study chapter selection has also been refined. Longer unlock requirements on locked chapter cards can now use two lines and scale more effectively, making them easier to read across supported languages.

This release also includes accessibility, layout, and reliability improvements.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-06-20

What's New in Version 1.2.0:

A Bigger, Smarter Study Experience

This major update redesigns Free Study, introduces Study Insights, refreshes Hangul Clock, and brings extensive visual, audio, and reliability improvements to iPhone and iPad.

Free Study now brings Flashcards, Typing Drill, and Pair Rush together in one cinematic palace-library space. Choose a Study Mode, select Hangeul Prompt or Roman Prompt where supported, browse clearer chapter cards, and use the new Random Prompt lens in Flashcards to practise both directions in one shuffled session.

Study Insights now uses your completed Flashcards, Typing Drill, and Pair Rush sessions to provide clear Overview and By Chapter summaries. Recommended Review and the new Review Queue help identify what may need attention, while Review Now starts the suggested practice directly. When there is not enough evidence yet, Study Insights clearly shows More Data Needed instead of treating missing practice as a low score.

The Title Screen now opens over a cinematic Korean palace scene. Hangul Clock has also been refreshed with a starry-night background, streamlined controls, and darker glass-style Clock Lessons and Watch Control sheets.

The What's New sheet has been redesigned with a cleaner two-tab layout. This Version presents a concise summary of the latest update with a compact archive for earlier releases. Developer's Note shares news about future plans and includes a direct support link so you can send feedback and help improve the learning experience.

This release also adds dedicated background music for the Title Screen, Free Study, and Hangul Clock; improves video and audio playback; makes study results follow your selected app language more consistently; and includes accessibility, localization, performance, and reliability improvements.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-06-13

What's New in Version 1.1.1:

This update improves Chapter Select, Full Access promotion support, and Hangul Clock localization.

Chapter Select now shows visual progress inside each chapter circle. Chapters begin with a planted progress image, then grow into pine tree artwork in Sejong mode or plum tree artwork in Inji mode as you clear more stages. Tapping the selected chapter circle now also enters the chapter, just like the Enter Chapter button.

Full Access screens now support limited-time promotional presentation when an App Store offer is active.

Hangul Clock Lessons now better follow the app’s selected language. Generated lesson meanings now match the in-app language setting instead of falling back to the system language.

This release also includes UI polish and reliability improvements.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-06-05

What's New in Version 1.1.0:

Version 1.1.0 is a major Hangul Tactica update built around daily Korean time practice and the first Jamo Watch companion app for Apple Watch.

New: Hangul Clock on iPhone
• Read the current time in Korean with native Korean hour words and Sino-Korean minutes.
• Open Clock Lessons to freeze the current time and study it as a small reading lesson.
• Break Korean time words into syllables and jamo with clearer beginner-friendly rows.
• Review helpful notes about sound shifts, such as how a consonant can sound different at the start or end of a syllable.

New: Jamo Watch on Apple Watch
• See Korean time on Apple Watch.
• Notice one glowing jamo from the current time.
• Tap anywhere for one Quick Recall question.
• Answer from a simple 2×2 Roman reading layout.
• See quick feedback, then return to the clock.

New: Watch Control
• Review the Watch Glyph Range from iPhone.
• Customize iPhone Clock and Apple Watch visuals independently.
• Choose glow colors, card letter colors, and Modern or Classic glyph style.
• Learn how the Watch experience works with a new guide inside Watch Control.

Jamo Watch is intentionally lightweight. It gives short ambient recall moments, but it does not complete Campaign, Planner, Mac study tasks, scores, or chapter unlocks.

This update also includes localization, accessibility, visual feedback, and layout polish across the new Hangul Clock, Clock Lessons, Watch Control, and Jamo Watch surfaces.
