Perhaps skip the breed. **Developer response:** Please try the new version- result should be much better, we have over 60 breeds now! ### 2/5 — Inaccurate, but a great idea *2020-08-29, version 1.0.0* I hope it improves with time as it’s such a cool idea. My mission (impossible) is to try and get a photo of her that is “happy”... ### 2/5 — No Australian dog breeds despite being developed at Melbourne Uni? *2020-08-23, version 1.0.0* My Kelpie/Koolie cross is labelled a French bulldog, miniature pinscher or Scottish terrier. Why are there no Australian breeds in your breed database, when this was developed in Australia? Seems like a no brainer.... 🤷🏽‍♀️ ### 2/5 — Disappointing *2020-08-22, version 1.0.0* The app only has a few breeds of dogs it can identify, excluding very common breeds. I didn’t expect it to accurately identify the pets feelings (which it doesnt) but it cant even identify dogs from the top 20 dog breeds. ### 3/5 — A tech demo *2020-08-22* This is a cool idea, but pretty barebones: facial expression recognition (with a fixed set of unsettled/happy/sad/anxious/neutral) applied to pets (also somewhat limited number of breeds are known). The photos also take up to half a minute to be processed. **Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback - we are still tweaking the app and adding new breeds on a daily basis and will also release a new version soon where you can give direct feedback if results seem wrong. Maybe after that we can try and make it more pretty, too! ### 3/5 — Trained on limited data set. Only novelty value *2020-08-21* Does not seem to have been trained on big enough dataset. My Weimaraner is recognized as GSP. They should allow users to to capture and submit their own photos. This would enrich the training faster. Pretty sure that isn’t right. Can you add in a button that lets users report a issue and sends the picture to you? Too ambitious? *2020-08-20, version 1.0.0* App got the breed right each time but CONSISTENTLY said my dog was 100% angry...even when she was wagging her tail like crazy just about to go out on a walk. If you could pls add Australian Cattle Dog to your list of breeds that would be fabulous. Keep tweaking. 😀😀 ### 4/5 — Just Fun *2020-08-20* We didn’t expect too much from it. It correctly identified our great pyrenees 98% of the time. And wavered pretty good between havanees and poodle for our little Coton. But my daughters chihuahua with a severe underbite was identified as pitbull, rottweiler etc... pretty funny stuff. Received some good and some mhe emotional readings. Says my long haired chihuahua is a pomeranian half the time and that my Japanese spitz is a Samoyed. Both dogs have results of being unsettled 100% of the time which while hilarious was wildly inaccurate. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn’t recognise my cat *2022-09-10, version 1.1.0* Thinks he’s a Siberian Husky ### 1/5 — Not ready - questionable findings *2021-03-21* Tried the app out after the app developer sent me a link. Tried a photo of my dog - a well-known and distinctive breed at that. It recognized it as 3 completely different and dissimilar breeds each time. Not sure how much one can believe the mood indicators given the bad results on breed identification (on which several other apps do a great job). ### 1/5 — Not good *2020-08-31, version 1.0.0* This app needs to add rabbits ### 1/5 — Inaccurate *2020-08-25, version 1.0.0* When I was taking a photo of my Purebred Dachshund it said it was a Labrador Retriever, and it said my American Bulldog (that was sleeping) was an unsettled Labrador Retriever. ### 1/5 — Useless app *2020-08-22, version 1.0.0* It showed my smiling whippet as “unsettled” chihuahua. ### 1/5 — Hilariously Innacurate *2020-08-20, version 1.0.0* This app thought my dachshund was an English cocker spaniel and all the photos of him on walls and such were 99% angry when he was as happy as can be. Some photos with clear lighting and directly on his face it couldn’t even tell he was a dog. ### 1/5 — Wildly inaccurate ! *2020-08-19, version 1.0.0* I really wanted this to work, but it's just hopeless. In 5 tries, my Golden Retriever was correctly identified twice, then twice as a totally unrelated breed, then once this app couldn't even tell that she's a dog. When it worked out that she's a dog, 3 times it said she was 98-100% angry, and the 4th time she was 78% angry. Load of rubbish - she was playing her favourite games in all of them - listening to Mozart with me, rolling on her back for a tummy rub, running on the beach, etc. She's a loved and pampered Golden Retriever - I don't think she's got an angry bone in her whole body ! I so wanted it to be right, even occasionally, because it'd be so cool, but it was so inaccurate that it wasn't even fun any more Thanks for trying to do something fun, and I know this is a hard task, but sadly this app totally misses the mark ### 1/5 — Fido2 *2020-08-18, version 1.0.0* All the photos of my dogs came back as sad and angry. Even the sleeping poses! LOL - Also, the photos descriptions on the breed type for Pomeranian show a Border Collie type breed. This app needs a lot more work. ### 1/5 — Absolute rubbish *2020-08-17, version 1.0.0* So apparently I have an American pit bull (she’s a whippet) who is always Angry, Scared and Sad (even when her tail is wagging like nuts because she’s so happy and excited). This is a really fun app to use, and I think it paints AI in a positive, fun picture. However, I think that the prediction for emotion is quite biased - it predicts happy and neutral far too often, but I think it probably resembles the training set distribution (I couldn’t find that many sad photos of my dog, anyway). ### 5/5 — Please explain how this works!? *2020-09-23, version 1.1.0* Mood seems accurate - how?! Doesn’t have my dog breed (Dalmatian) but picked English Setter which is definitely the closest breed of the ones available. Going to enjoy using this and loved reading about how it works and was created! Keep going with this guys - it’s great. Agree would be great to have a feedback feature in the app itself. I wonder if the AI learns more the the more photos we take? ### 5/5 — Inaccurate but funny *2020-08-21, version 1.0.0* I entered a photo of my dog asleep and it said he was 67 percent unsettled! It got the breed correct but I am pretty sure none of it was right. I entered a photo of a vizsler from the internet sitting on a towel and it said he was 100 percent sad which made no sense. According to this app, my dog is almost always extremely unsettled even though he is a very calm dog. Funny but needs A LOT of work. ### 5/5 — Everyone needs to chill out *2020-08-20, version 1.0.0* I downloaded this app after listening to the developer on RRR this morning. These reviews are intense! It’s a lighthearted app, made as a uni project after young people at a music festival got into the idea of what pets are thinking about - or at least that’s what I picked up whilst I was half asleep listening to breakfast radio in bed. It’s a free app and I’m sure it will continue to improve the more it’s used. Everyone being really aggressive needs to remember this is free and a learning process. You didn’t pay $50, so just chill out. It got the breed of my pet correct, along with the mood as to what I thought as well. It did say ‘sad’ but pugs have a resting sad face though, so that’s not surprising lol.
