### 3/5 — So many vegan food not listed just because the place sells lamb

*2026-08-21, version 7.7.7*

This is the first time I’ve ever reviewed an app but I just had to because this app could of been amazing had this one rule be removed. I’d like to ask whats the difference in unaliving a chicken compared to lamb? We download this app because we don’t eat meat, and because it’s hard to find veggie and vegan food. But there is so many places that sell good veggie and vegan food that also serve lamb and I can’t see their establishments because of this. There is a small family owned black business that does amazing veggie wraps and I’d love for them to have a place on the app. But because they happen to sell lamb they aren’t allowed to be showed? Which means many vegans and veggies will miss out on their food. I just find this really poorly done. Why do lambs deserve more morals than chickens or pigs ? You let restaurants who sell chicken and pork be on the app but cross the line at lamb? All meat is animal cruelty not just lamb. Change this feature because I know of countless restaurants that does a good meat free option and no one can see them on the app because of this. And I as a vegetarian am missing out on finding options (the whole point of this app) because of this feature too. It just harms plant based people more than it does help them. Try finding a single restaurant that doesn’t sell lamb, that’s why there is a lack of options to eat on this app. Which is a shame since I payed £5 for this app. If you don’t want to promote lamb fair enough, but then don’t promote any places that do meat at all. Then who would buy your app? There would be nowhere to eat!

### 2/5 — Useful, but IMO needs serious improvement

*2026-08-19, version 7.7.7*

First there is the issue of not having a lot of useful information in areas that are not that popular, though I do understand that it’s community driven so I can’t complain too much about it. But this app is really not great to use. I zoom in to an area of interest and hit “search here” and it zooms way out to an area that is 100 times larger. Every time when you tap on a place it centers the map there. That is not great, I am typically interested in a particular area and I only want to explore the places there, with this behavior I have to re-center the map all the time. And browsing through the restaurants by sliding left and right the options at the bottom is just terrible, no idea what order they are in (certainly not distance), swipe right and I am now on the other side of Bangkok. I actually take the time to input a range of these places in Google Maps and then it’s usable. In this era of AI coding it should be trivial to make this a more usable experience.

### 3/5 — Need more newer reviews

*2026-08-19, version 7.7.7*

Great app but most of the reviews are old

### 2/5 — Spinning wheel of Death

*2026-07-21, version 7.7.6*

Cannot register using the Apple sign in option, get spinning wheel. Was able to register w my email

### 4/5 — Would be 5 stars if I could give 5 stars

*2026-07-09, version 7.7.6*

App would be so much better if I could give non vegetarian/vegan exclusive restaurants 5 stars.

### 3/5 — Sad vegan

*2026-06-26, version 7.7.6*

While I find this app useful as a longtime vegan to find restaurants, especially in unfamiliar areas. I realize that they only allow a 4 star max rating review to restaurants that are not 100% vegetarian or vegan. Most of the restaurants that I frequent offer vegan options, but certainly aren’t 100%. That said, I have time and time again glossed over restaurants due to their lower rating. I recently ate the best meal ever at Nanyea Ethiopian in a conservative white town thanks to a second opinion from Google. As I spoke with the owner, she struggles to get customers through the door, but once they do, they are lifers. I am now too! However, I almost missed this opportunity because of the weighted lower rating from a handful of customers. Not only is this a disservice to those of us that eat within this framework, but it hurts small business owners, especially those that already have a disadvantage.

### 5/5 — The best

*2026-06-13, version 7.7.6*

We have been using the Happy Cow app for 20+ years and even in the most remote places, it has helped us find delicious vegan meals. Thank you to the folks at Happy Cow for all their hard work to keep vegans around the world happy and well-fed!

### 5/5 — Necessity when travelling

*2026-06-13, version 7.7.6*

### 5/5 — Where to eat if you don’t want meat

*2026-05-27, version 7.7.6*

The best. The only. If you’re a veggie or a vegan or if you’re trying to find somewhere to eat with your veggie or vegan friends there is simply no better app to use.

### 5/5 — Helpful

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — BE AWARE - Charged when I did not even subscribe

*2026-08-31, version 7.7.8*

I was charged a monthly fee even though i did not even subscribe and I have no purchase history on the app store for the app. On the app itself there is no way to check my account details and membership charges etc.

### 1/5 — They removed countries visited

*2026-06-26, version 7.7.6*

Bet there’s been a decline in use now and people won’t bother updating their travel food. What a stupid marketing mistake from this company.

### 1/5 — Meat everywhere

*2026-06-02, version 7.7.6*

This is a pitiful selection of restaurants that serve mostly meat but have a $12 boring salad at the bottom of the menu. Worthless to me.

### 1/5 — No support

*2026-05-12, version 7.7.6*

Very unhappy that I’ve had no support when logging in. Keep changing the password and I’m still not able to have full access to the app. Will be asking for my money back if I’m not ignored.

### 1/5 — Closed restaurants and overcharged

*2026-05-09, version 7.7.6*

The App Store indicated the app was 4.99, fine, but then I was charged over $38, WTAF. I started using it and one of the first restaurants on the list has been closed for years with another restaurant in its place, so I’m assuming at least in my area this is useless. What a rip off

### 1/5 — Useless App

*2026-04-11*

The most useless app in AI era. It’s UI / UX is very bad.

### 1/5 — Like Hotel California- once you join they don’t let you leave

*2026-03-06, version 7.7.6*

Unable to find a method to unsubscribe.. not great

### 1/5 — Dead App

*2026-03-01, version 7.7.6*

I've been a HappyCow user for almost 10 years with over 1000 points. Listings are outdated and/or contain incorrect information. A quick Google search is more accurate. Want to add a new listing or correct false information? Cool, your request will sit in a queue and never be approved. The community is TRYING to maintain the website/app and there is 0 response. This is just pathetic. I also tried to leave a review but it said I didn't "own" the app. So I deleted and it said I needed to pay $4.99. Hilarious. And I did, just so I could tell you how bad this has gotten. Try a different app like Spinach or stick to Google.

### 1/5 — Can’t sign up

*2025-11-04, version 7.7.3.0*

I can’t get past the sign up page. It just keeps loading and does nothing. Super happy I paid for this 🫩

### 1/5 — No good for English speakers

*2025-10-27, version 7.7.3.0*

As a vegan I have long enjoyed this app - so imagine my chagrin when I selected a restaurant, clicked on the “website” link, and was directed to a page displayed entirely in Thai? I live in the Northeast of England. My friends and neighbours are Geordies. There is one lovely Thai family in the next village - but I can’t see how this would lead the app to think displaying whatever the website in Thai would increase sales! It looks like a football site, yet the restaurant name is displayed at the very top of the page in English. I have a screenshot but can’t see how to attach it. Fellow vegans, the app claims to have fixed the app’s bugs - they are delusional!! This app is an entomologist’s field day.

### 5/5 — Essential App for Great Vegan Food at Home and Abroad!

*2026-08-28, version 7.7.7*

For almost two decades, Happy Cow has been an essential part of my vegan journey. When I first learned it on the HappyCow website, there were only 10 listings for my home city. I vowed to eat at one of them and every additional vegan/vegan-friendly restaurant. Eventually, so many restaurants populated HappyCow that I was no longer able to keep up. This is a great thing! In London, in Malaysia, and Sri Lanka, in Tokyo, I was able to find vegan restaurants because of HappyCow. It is also been a great benefit during my domestic travel.
I am so grateful for the vision of the founders of this website/app. Needless to say, I recommend it most enthusiastically.

### 5/5 — User for over 5 years

*2026-08-23, version 7.7.7*

Look no further. This is the app for you. I’ve used it for over 5 years and will use it for life. I check it to find new spots where I live and I always plan out where I want to eat when I travel. It’s so easy to use and super convenient

### 5/5 — Very useful!

*2026-08-11, version 7.7.6*

I’ve used this app in Canada, Iceland, and Europe snd found it very helpful in choosing a place to eat. It gives an idea of the cost as well which is great. I’ve never had a glitch or any problems at all with it.

### 5/5 — Best app on planet earth, no better food out there

### 5/5 — Great for finding vegan food

*2026-07-26, version 7.7.6*

Happy Cow helps me find vegan food wherever I am in the world. It has been very useful.

### 5/5 — Lifesaver

*2026-07-25, version 7.7.6*

This is genuinely my go to travel app. I love the community and being able to check pre-vetted restaurants for vegan options when I cannot be bothered to try and look for something in a new place.

When travelling with friends and we are looking for a place to eat they always ask me to look at my “vegan app” so that we can easily find an establishment that works for me quickly. I love how veg option restaurants are labelled differently to veggie/vegan restaurants as it also makes it easier to find stuff when im out with my omnivore friends who dont feel adventurous enough to try vegan food and allows me to quickly locate vegan restaurants when im dining solo.

I love this app so much, it is the only place where I post reviews. I love being part of the community and able to contribute to vegans finding better food options without stress.

### 5/5 — Complete game changer

*2026-07-10, version 7.7.6*

HappyCow makes it possible to thrive as a vegan traveler. I use it all the time and it’s such a fantastic addition to my life—it’s honestly the biggest reason I don’t get a “dumb” phone!

### 5/5 — Life saver

*2026-06-24*

I love you happy cow

### 5/5 — An amazing resource I’ve used for 20 years!

*2026-06-23, version 7.7.6*

I love Happy Cow and am so happy to have it. The app works well, and is a constant lifesaver - especially when traveling.
