(Glitch only when select from the Today Page) Finally after much experiment, noticed a tiny white “back arrow” mixed in on top left. Hard to see arrow in the screen image there. Once discovered little arrow all worked great. For others to find easier, perhaps try and highlight it better or a different colour or a bolder easier to see arrow on that page that doesn’t blend with the background quite so well? Other pages all have a clear black exit X at top. Appears to be just when make selection from the Today page that the little white arrow comes in play. All good!
