## What is Hard Hat Hop?

I'm a firefighter. I built this game between shifts.

It's a one-more-hop arcade game about crossing a road that doesn't end.

Tap to hop forward. Slide a thumb any direction — left, right, even back — and you hop that way. Cars, pickups, buses, cement mixers and freight trains are all trying to flatten you, the pace creeps up the further you get, and your best run is only ever a few seconds from over. Pick up coins on the way. The first hundred lanes are gentle on purpose.

THE CREW

48 workers across 24 crews, a man and a woman on every one. Firefighters, fire chief, smokejumper, wildland, lineman, paramedic, EMT, police, lifeguard, nurse, welder, electrician, ironworker, rigger, coal miner, sandhog, dispatcher, 911 operator, trucker, mechanic, plumber, carpenter, crane op, farmer, line cook, laborer, flagger, mail carrier, custodian and more.

You hire them out of a red toolbox with coins you earned playing. The odds are printed right on the hiring board and in the shop: 60% common, 25% uncommon, 10% rare, 4% epic, 1% legendary. Duplicates hand coins back, and the pity timers mean a bad streak can't go on forever. The firefighter and the fire chief are yours from the first launch, so you always have someone to play as.

Who you pick changes the road. Every job brings its own hazard out onto the grass: a loose cow for the farmers, a purse snatcher for the police, sleepwalking patients for the nurses. Grab a key and your job's vehicle pulls up — the engine, the ambulance, the cruiser, the tractor — and drives you eight lanes with nothing able to touch you.

48 MINI GAMES

Every so often mid-run, a ghost, a seagull or a delivery drone picks you up and drops you into a mini game. One for each worker, and the one you get has nothing to do with who you're playing as — your worker just shows up in it. Hose down a fire. Shock a patient. Shoot out a getaway car's tires. Walk a steel beam. Squash bugs on a windshield. Cook the dinner rush.

They pay coins, they run twenty or thirty seconds, and they can never cost you the run. When it's over, you're set back down exactly where you were with a moment to breathe.

WILD EVENTS

Nine things that can happen without warning, and none of them can kill you.

Lunch Break freezes the traffic. Payday rains coins. An airdrop parachutes a free toolbox pull in. A UFO abducts you and drops you twelve lanes ahead. A seagull flies over and splats the screen. Rush Hour doubles your coins and runs the traffic at nearly double speed. A tornado throws cars around. Night Shift kills the lights and leaves you a flashlight. Giant Mode makes you enormous and lets you stomp the cars flat.

HAZARD PAY

One thing ends runs besides the traffic. Every couple of minutes the job itself goes wrong — the forest catches, the cement truck lets go — and that's your run, however well it was going. You get hazard pay for it. Everyone on the crew has had a day like that.

SCORES

Game Center leaderboard, 11 achievements, and iCloud sync so your crew and your coins follow you to another device. No account to make with me, no sign-up, and nothing of yours on a server of mine — scores go to Game Center, saves go to your iCloud.

ABOUT ADS AND MONEY

Straight, because I hate being lied to about this.

Ads are rewarded only. You are never interrupted by one. They sit behind buttons you choose to press — double your pay at the end of a run, take a free toolbox pull, get a second shift to keep a good run going — and if you never press them, you never see an ad.

You can buy coins if you want them faster. The Foreman Pass is a one-time purchase that turns ads off for good and makes every one of those bonuses free without watching anything. Two of the legendary workers can be hired outright if you'd rather not wait on the toolbox. None of it is required to play, and nothing about the road is locked behind it.
