### 3/5 — It’s okay

*2026-04-19*

I find myself frustrated every time I use this app because I have been logged out and it doesn’t remember my login information. Fix this please!

It’s also a little clunky with respect to adding a new read. Sometimes it adds multiple reads if I say I’m currently reading something and try to adjust the dates or type of book.

As others have noted it’s also slow to load at times when I just want to log in a quick update to my reading status.

### 3/5 — Has huge potential but not there yet

*2026-01-13, version 2.1.2*

I love storygraph and I still think it's the best as I only read ebooks and audiobooks. Hardcover however is looking like a strong contender and I do like where the devs seem to be going. My only thing as a non physical book reader it has kinks where my library transfered over with many of them as physical books and it just seems the books in my library still seem to be treated as physical books instead of ebooks or audiobooks. Also when creating my profile I kept getting 500 error code.

### 3/5 — pretty buggy…

*2026-01-08*

i love the concept and the execution, it’s just the lack of responsiveness and constant redirection of what i click on that bothers me, adding books from search is a tedious chore that constantly makes me hit the wrong button because the screen keeps moving! many aspects of the app feel unresponsive or slow to function, which makes it hard to work with this effectively

### 5/5 — Feels good

*2025-10-11*

The app feels really good.
The most important thing for me is that I can participate here.
The fact that the other platform was taken over by the big A made it even easier for me to switch here.
Please make sure that the Hardcover app continues to be fun.

### 4/5 — Letterboxd for Books

*2025-10-06*

The app could be built better (it’s just a website in app form so you do a lot of waiting/loaded) but it’s exactly what I was looking for.

### 5/5 — Better than I expected!

*2025-10-06*

Definitely has a few bugs that need to be ironed out but the features, values and vision of this app is so worth dealing with a few minor kinks.

### 3/5 — I want to like it

*2025-04-07*

I want to like this app so much. Visually it’s great. Using it is unfortunately frustrating. My reading goal won’t update when I add my finished books, and any books that aren’t under the sci-fi fantasy umbrella don’t have descriptions or cover art. I think it has the potential to be great but at the moment it’s not.

### 3/5 — Crashes. A lot.

*2025-03-08*

I’ve had the app installed for less than a day and it has crashed a dozen times, at least. Most of the time, the crash just sends you to the site in your browser. Hardcover itself is nice, but the iOS app still has a ways to go.

### 3/5 — Crashes. A lot.

*2025-03-05*

I’ve had the app installed for less than a day and it has crashed a dozen times, at least. Most of the time, the crash just sends you to the site in your browser. Sometimes you even get a try again link in the app. That also sends you to your browser. The catalog is robust, but in the first few books I added I ran into books where the format didn’t match the isbn. It’s a pretty app. Hopefully whatever is happening in their api is resolved before they leave beta, because it has potential.

### 4/5 — Cool but team needs to do some reconsidering

*2025-01-29*

I hope the team takes the feedback here into serious account!! This app could rival Fable and StoryGraph BUT it runs a little slow, and the stats need some work (even simple things like show average rating number!) - no one cares about pages read in a day. Also, the app should reconsider which features come with the supporter subscription. This app would take off if more features came with the free version. I get that it’s new, but why would someone pay for features they can get on Storygraph for free? You can’t even see all of your read genres without paying. That’s super lame.

### 3/5 — Has Potential But Needs Work

*2025-01-25*

This app could be really good but it needs a lot of work. It is slow to load/update. And it often crashes. I can’t imagine paying for added features with all these issues.

### 5/5 — Excellent alternative

*2025-01-17*

I used to be an adventurer just like you, forever making lists of books that I would lose, until switching to Hardcover.
Very nifty app, a passion project not affiliated to any of the big corpo’s, that can become a wonderful companion if you’re a usual reader.
Always fun looking over stats and other perks the app offers.

The devs are also very diligent and really listen to the community

### 3/5 — Incredibly slow

*2024-12-28*

I want to love it but it is very slow to load, which has discouraged me from using it. I want to spend as little time as possible on my phone and digging around in my apps, especially if all I’m trying to do is log my reading, and sadly the loading time for Hardcover makes it unusable for me. Unsure if it’s specific to my phone model or iOS version, but every other app I’ve tried using recently has been quite snappy, so it’s hard to say.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Nice idea but way too slow in use

*2026-05-10*

Nice idea but really slow in use. It’s infuriatingly slow. Delays while doing basically anything. I just want a slick way to track books I read and might like and to easily add all books in a series or author. Can’t be that difficult

### 1/5 — 2025 wrapped

*2026-01-01, version 2.1.2*

Get rid of the bs 2025 wrapped at the top of the app. I don't want it and newsflash, I already know what I read.

### 1/5 — Nice idea but a really bad app

*2025-06-20*

The idea is great and the connection with KOreader is great. But the iOS app is one of the worst I‘ve ever seen!

### 1/5 — Not functioning

*2024-05-14*

I would love a Goodreads alternative. But currently the App does Not function. While i set up an account the App crashed a lot of times. Now i seem to be signed up and i would Like to sign in. I get the Message that iam signed in, But when i want to use the App it says again i Need to be logged in. Even new Installation does Not work. So the App is currently Not usable for me.

### 1/5 — Still can’t complete setup

*2023-08-22*

Setup process has me in a loop and I can’t complete the account setup process without it glitching and signing me out, only to have to input all my info again. Still can’t get to the library page or add any books.

### 2/5 — Buggy but usable

*2026-07-12*

Love having a good reads alternative but 1/10 times I'm going to come across a bug.

Either the site is down or some strange UI bug occurs. I know the development team will work out it out but need to call out the issues so they can be fixed.

### 2/5 — So slow

*2025-06-09*

I love the app and how it looks, plus couple of functions like the moods in addition to genres and so on. But, these all are just frustratingly slow and most of the time the app is generally unusable. Like you click something and nothing happens. I know you changed your stack couple of months ago for better performance, but I guess your problem lies in another place. The web app is exactly the same in terms of performance and problems.

This could be „the app“ for social book tracking, but these problems need to be solved.

### 2/5 — Looks great, performs less great

*2025-03-10*

App is very slow. It is designed well and looks really good, but lacks polish. Also, it hasn’t been updated in nearly a year…

### 2/5 — Nice design but very slow & buggy

*2024-12-27*

I was looking for an alternative to Goodreads for a long time and I liked that the app is a hobby project and not affiliated with Amazon. I like the design and the fact that the font is big, buttons are big and easy to hit. However, 9 times out of 10 when I try to check my Stats, the app is in a forever loading state. Sometimes it shows an error message, sometimes it redirects me to a browser version of the app. In fact, redirecting to the browser version happens a lot and it’s super frustrating as it only goes away if I completely close the app and restart. It’s been so bad lately that I am ready to move on, it’s not worth the hassle.

### 2/5 — Can’t Create an Account

*2024-11-10*

I tried on the iphone app and on the mobile website, and in both occasions clicking the ‘join hardcover’ button did nothing. I typed and confirmed a passeo, also made sure to click the tos checkbox.

update1: was able to create account, but can’t set it up. Increased 1 star to 2.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Really good

*2026-08-01*

Soo much nicer to use than Goodreads. I love that you can choose which specific edition of a book you’re reading. The app is nicer too — Goodreads always takes multiple seconds to load each page, Hardcover is much smoother.

### 5/5 — Hardcover is amazing

*2026-07-28*

Favourite book tracking up. Nice interface, design and loads of features. Good functionality. Miles ahead of good reads

### 5/5 — An Avid Reader’s Necessity

*2026-02-18*

So glad I found this app! Pairs extremely well with StoryGraph, and even has a few features that are better. Will definitely be becoming a member ASAP.

### 5/5 — Really good!

*2026-02-06*

Better than everything else out there. Props to the developers 👍

### 5/5 — Great Book Tracker

*2026-02-02*

Love this app so far. I always found Goodreads to be hard for me to stick with for some odd reason, but this one feels much more smooth and addictive to me.

### 5/5 — Amazing website

*2026-02-02*

Love it. Better than good reads and most other trackers.

### 5/5 — Just what I was looking for

*2026-01-30*

This app deserves way more attention

### 5/5 — How is this not the most popular book tracking app!?

*2026-01-24*

Great features, looks nice, just a good amount of social features but without feeling too much like a social platform. Like that it tracks audiobook listens and pages individually.

### 5/5 — A Modern Feeling, Functional Reading App

*2026-01-24*

This app feels like it was designed by real readers, for real readers. Easy to navigate, intuitive and pleasant interface, features that actually add to the experience of reading. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Love this website

*2026-01-03*

Best alternative to Goodreads I’ve ever found- literally tried so many others and this was by far my favorite. The stats, the UI, the look of it 10/10. Only annoying thing was when it exported my Goodreads it put an end date to my read books but not a start date so I had to do it manually on 80 books for 2025 but that’s a small price to pay imo
