## What is Harmonauta?

Harmonauta is a music maker for songwriters that starts where songs actually start: with a feeling.

Instead of scales, wheels and chord tables, you get a living galaxy of sixteen emotions. Tap Longing, add a little Joy, pull Serenity closer, and the Core hums the key it hears. Forge it, and Harmonauta lays out a chord progression that carries that feeling: the right mode, the right movement, the right extensions, voiced and played back so you can judge it by ear.

Then keep shaping.

FORGE A TONE
• Blend up to four emotions and weight them by dragging them toward the Core
• Progressions built from a library of emotional archetypes across seven modes
• Depth control: Pure triads, Rich sevenths, or Lush ninths and colour tones
• Feel control: hold, pulse, strum, picked or piano comping, plus tempo and key
• Genre: Pop, Rock, Hip-hop, R&B, Electronic, Folk, Jazz, Lo-fi, Bossa nova, MPB, Reggae or Blues, or let the feeling decide
• A melody line written over your chords, shown as a piano roll, rerollable
• Reroll for another take on the same feeling

HEAR IT PROPERLY
• Ten instruments (pad, glass keys, pluck, electric piano, nylon guitar, crunch guitar, organ, bells, strings, flute) and three basses
• Drums with sixteen grooves, from a soft pulse and bossa to boom bap, swing, samba, one drop, four on the floor and a blues shuffle
• Bass lines that play a real part: a pedal under calm, lush chords, root and fifth, octaves when it gets loud, a walking line through the key; genres bring their own, from a blues boogie to samba and bossa
• Five spaces from dry to cathedral and plate
• Binaural beat for headphones: a quiet tone in each ear around the key note, pulsing in time with the song
• The screen stays awake while anything is playing
• Auto picks all of it from the feeling or the genre; override anything in the Sound sheet

RESHAPE ANY CHORD
• Shards: smart substitutions for every chord, from relative minors and mediants to secondary dominants, tritone subs and borrowed colour
• Change chord lengths, add and remove chords
• See the guitar shape for every chord, with alternatives one tap away

GROW IT INTO A SONG
• The Journey builds an intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and outro from your seed
• Tint any section with a different feeling and Harmonauta rewrites its harmony to match
• Reorder, duplicate, repeat and regenerate sections
• Play the whole arrangement end to end; the trail scrolls itself to the section being played

TAKE IT WITH YOU
• Guitar sheet PDF: chord diagrams above every bar, fingerings, barres, positions
• MIDI export for any tone or full song with chord, bass line, melody and drum tracks, ready for your DAW
• Copy a chord sheet as text
• A library that remembers every tone and song with its mood

Harmonauta is built for songwriters, composers, producers and anyone who has a feeling before they have a chord. It runs entirely on your device, with no account and no internet required.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-10-02

A new name, and something for your headphones.

• Harmonaut is now Harmonauta. Same app, same library: your tones and songs are right where you left them
• Binaural beat: a new switch at the foot of the Sound sheet. A quiet tone in each ear, tuned around the key note and a few hertz apart, so a slow pulse forms between your ears at the speed of the sixteenth notes
• It needs headphones and stays silent on the speaker
• Switch it on for a tone and the song you build from it carries it through every section
• A headphones mark on the tone and on the song shows when it is on

### 1.4 — 2026-09-30

The bass plays a real part now, and the galaxy sits where it should.

• On Auto the bass follows the feeling: a pedal under calm, lush chords, root and fifth at a steady pace, octaves when the energy is high, and a walking line under a shuffle or rich, jazzy harmony
• Walking lines move through the key and step into every chord change by a half step, from one section into the next too
• A new Bass line picker in the Sound sheet: Roots, Root–fifth, Octaves, Walking or Pedal, for a tone or a whole song
• Bass eighths now swing with the drums
• MIDI export carries the bass line you hear, genre lines included, instead of held roots
• The feelings waiting on the belt now circle the Core instead of hanging above it
• The whole sky is framed in the space you can actually see, between the key and the blend, so no feeling hides behind the panel at the bottom

### 1.3 — 2026-09-22

Blues, and a song that follows you while it plays.

- Blues joins the genres: a shuffle kit, a boogie bass that walks up the chord and back down through the seventh, a swung guitar shuffle, and a seventh on every chord, because that is the sound
- Blues brings its own forms too, twelve bar, quick change, eight bar and minor blues, so a blues idea arrives as a whole chorus instead of a four-chord loop, and its melodies reach for the flat third, fifth and seventh
- The Journey scrolls with the music: the section being played comes to you instead of you chasing it
- The screen no longer goes to sleep while a tone or a song is playing

### 1.2 — 2026-09-19

Harmonaut now sounds like a band, writes the tune and plays in your genre.

• Genres: Pop, Rock, Hip-hop, R&B, Electronic, Folk, Jazz, Lo-fi, Bossa nova, MPB and Reggae. Pick one on the tone screen and the instruments, drums, comping, bass line, tempo and chord voicings follow. The feeling still chooses the chords
• A melody line over your chords, shown as a piano roll, with a flute, bells, pluck or crunch lead
• Ten instruments and three basses: electric piano, nylon guitar, crunch guitar, organ, bells, strings and more
• Drums with fifteen grooves, from a soft pulse and bossa to boom bap, swing, samba, one drop and four on the floor
• Bass lines that know the style: walking for jazz, octave for electronic, samba and bossa figures
• Five spaces, dry to cathedral and plate
• Auto picks all of it from the feeling or the genre; override anything in the new Sound sheet
• Strum and piano-comping feels, plus Charleston, bossa, samba and reggae skank figures
• Guitar and PDF fingerings favour the shapes players know
• MIDI export now includes melody and drum tracks
• The galaxy's feelings are planets now, each with its own surface
• Tuning and balance fixes throughout
