I started and immediately I was so exited, a new Harry Potter game was just what I needed and the art was so cool! Took a little while to load but you know, I just had to trust the process. The first bug I encountered was me having to restart the whole game because I tried joining the same server as my sister. Then, when I finally got it back to where I was the game just wouldn’t load, I tried deleting photos, other apps, just to get this game to work but nothing was working at that point. So, I deleted it, but it didn’t end there. I decided to give it a second shot. I heard the servers were going under maintenance so I thought it was the perfect time to see if they fixed the bugs. Nope. I joined in and my screen turned black, it took me at least 30 minutes to turn my phone back on because it was just lagging my whole phone, to the point I thought it broke. As soon as it turned on I deleted it for good and came to write this. Please do not waste your time on this game, if the creators would just take another year or so to fix this and make it less buggy I will be fine with that. It was great at first. It had several of the original characters & parts felt very similar to the books & movies. Eventually, it turned more to an Asian/anime theme. Many of the characters, music & themes are eastern influenced. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but it just doesn’t feel reminiscent of the original storyline to me. It got to the point where I didn’t feel like I was playing a Harry Potter game anymore, which defeated the purpose of me downloading it to begin with. I wanted to feel like I was in Hogwarts & Diagon Alley with themes that are faithful to the original story that I cherish so much. There’s also an issue with bots in this game. I spent hours, days & weeks building up my dueling points only to be defeated over and over again by game bots, which I don’t think is fair. Most of the “real” players with money can buy their way through this game & advance at a much faster pace than us “regular” folk. I also had a hard time obtaining many legendary cards, regardless of how many gold & silver keys I used. I would often get the same cards over & over again, which was useless. Ultimately, if you want a game that’s true to the original concept of HP, this probably won’t be the one for you. I’ve heard better things about Hogwarts Legacy, so I’ll get rid of this game & try that one instead. ### 5/5 — Very fun just one thing unclear *2024-02-25* Ok I got this game yesterday and it’s been a blast! I’ve been able to change my character with super cool graphics and the storyline looks very promising just one thing. So when I got to Hogwarts and went through the sorting I then went to bed, when I woke up Lottie was in my dorm room and she would ask you if you wanted to go to the dueling club. And when you clicked yes then you were teleported there you can even have a partner. I don’t have a problem with any of that I’m just confused on how long you have to duel before you progress it’s kinds just match after match leveling up friendship with your partner but no progression on the story line because I’ve been dueling for like, the past 2 hrs. It’s a very fun game but that’s just the one thing I don’t know about because there are no alternate things to do. It may be that I have to get to a certain lvl or something but it would be good if you could let us know when the dualing part of the plot line lets you progress into other more interesting stuff. Do you get invited into duels? Maybe a dance? Do you show up to random classes? There is a lot to do and I don’t know anyone who has paid for gear. If you work it well you don’t need to pay to win. I am pleasantly surprised with this game. Also I lucked out and got my best spell like in my 3rd day. People play so different it’s hard to tell if you’re going to step on a higher level or just get demolished by a lower one. The combat is really thought out and when you just need a break you can just chill in a room and chat for a bit. Props to the devs they had an idea and followed through. ### 1/5 — What a Waste *2023-11-18* This game had so much potential to captivate the entirety of the HP community AND extend its appeal to card game enjoyers; however, the developers made it so that your success in main function of the game was dictated by how much money you spent. Now there’s very few players anymore because the developers thought the best way to pursue profits was demanding obscene payments for low value rewards leading to frustrations that were never addressed by the devs and the absence of players. Don’t waste your time: there’s no way to progress as a free to play player not to mention if you’re a new players there’s no hope… it’s simply not accessible to players. Eventually, the game will be barren and it’s only inhabitants will be the bugs and viruses that plague it already. They’ve prioritized profits over fixing any actual issues; complaints about monetization issues have been the biggest concern of players since the beginning and not only have they not changed but they haven’t even addressed the issue; if you want proof, just look at what reviews have developer responses. To sum up this rant, don’t waste your time or money unless they change their game soon and drastically. ### 2/5 — No Qualms About It, This Game is Pay to Win *2023-11-11* I’ve played this game since its launch and while it was enjoyable for a few months (the campaign is great, but updates aren’t released quick enough) it’s become very clear to me that this game is yet another ‘Pay To Win’ cash cow. I’ve personally spent ~$30 on in-game purchases so far, and even with that I still cannot realistically compete in duels with people who are paying hundreds of dollars for card upgrades. This aspect of the game ruins the entire dueling experience and destroys any sense of equity amongst competitive players. The devs have not addressed the overpowered 1% player base issue in a way that’s fair to all, and I suspect that’s intentional because people who aren’t skilled but who have money will pay to be perceived as better. In 1v1 and 2v2 ranked duels, card levels could be capped at realistic levels to make the duels skill and strategy based, but this isn’t done. Instead, devs have implemented a non-ranked 3rd battle mode where they level the playing field with everyone receiving same level cards but there is no point or reward for participating in this 3rd type of duel. ### 2/5 — Already a LOT of bugs from the first 10 minutes *2023-09-28* The art style is phenomenal but already, I’ve run into a handful of bugs. Whenever I put on my Ravenclaw robes, my character’s entire body disappears so it’s just a head. Whenever I looked for friends to add, all of them had their body missing too so I assume that they were also wearing robes that disappeared their body. I’ve been trying for a while now to sign into my WB games account to get that 200 gold sign-in bonus but when I input all my stuff, nothing happens and it says the sign in failed despite it working for other games. And this is just more of a personal tick - but we can’t change our character’s tone of voice? I have a female character and her voice is so high pitched that it gets immediately annoying, there’s no way to change that?? I’ve only just completed the sorting ceremony, getting ready to go to my first class, but dear lord the handful of bugs I’ve found this early in makes me not want to play. EDIT: Opening my inbox, I have a handful of letters that are completely confusing. I can only assume they’re for later in the game and I’m not SUPPOSED to have them yet. Thank you! ### 3/5 — I’m not sure anymore… *2023-09-18* I was playing this game every day and I had to take a break because it was getting frustrating. I completed the years before the gameplay that’s currently going on now was released. In hard times with the economy, it’s near impossible to throw the amount of money at this game that it’s basically all but demanding for you to get fair game play. You get capped in gold for duels but yet you need gold to level your spell book. You used to get gold from the flying car, now you do not. So it makes it harder and harder to level your spell book to meet the requirements to continue playing. When you go to duel, you can CONTINUOUSLY get matched with people far outside of your ability. And then you lose all your points for nothing. It’s like, why try? So, I took a break. I came back. And there’s minor differences. Not enough that I think I can get continuous game play. I’ll get frustrated and need a long break again. Which is a shame. Because I love HP and this has so much more potential than what it’s being given. ### 4/5 — LOVE IT, but the game is ALMOST unplayable *2023-09-02* I was super duper excited when I saw this game had been released. It has definitely not disappointed, it’s actually everything I have ever wanted in a game mixed together. People can customize their characters, name them, PvP/duel, and roleplay. There’s also an immersive story with fun characters. I love how the game keeps its charm with the hogwarts elements (DUH, ITS A HOGWARTS GAME) but it’s whimsical and friendly for those who don’t want to pay to actually enjoy the game. It’s lovely. Here’s the problem: it crashes every 15 seconds after I enter the game. I know it’s a problem currently trying to get fixed, but when It gets to the point I can barely play the game, there’s an issue. I find it particularly common when I press to enter the Shop/Store button on the top right corner and when I want to upgrade a card in the “Charms” section. I can tolerate it crashing 5 times, it’s fine, I just enter back into the game. However, after it crashing 10 times within 5 minutes, especially after experiencing this for days, I could no longer stay silent. When talking to others about it, through chat, they said they were also experiencing the same issue. There’s so much I want to do and I want to spend hours playing, but I can’t if the game doesn’t allow me to do that. Additional Optimization and Bug Fixes ### 3.0.21942 — 2024-04-08 New Legendary Summon card Newt’s Suitcase This card summons Newt's Suitcase, which draws in all nearby friendly summons if their Health is below 34%. The Suitcase's capacity grows in proportion to the Maximum Health of the units it draws in. It will also periodically increase its capacity at the expense of its Health. When the Suitcase reaches max capacity or is defeated, a Hippogriff will be summoned to fight alongside you. Each Suitcase can only summon 1 Hippogriff. The Hippogriff's attack deals AoE damage in an arc. Its Health, Attack, Range, AoE Damage, and size will increase proportionally to the capacity of the Suitcase and the number of creatures it contains at the time of summoning (will not exceed attribute limits). New Common Summon card Winged Catapult This card summons a Winged Catapult that attacks 5 times in the direction of its summoner at the cost of its own Health. Additional Optimization and Bug Fixes ### 3.0.21912 — 2024-02-06 New Mythic Dumbledore Companion Card : This card summons Albus Dumbledore, who increases friendly players' Magic cast within a set range surrounding him, and marks these Cards: Unforgivable Curses, Dark Spells, and their derivative Spells. When marked cards are drawn and used again, they earn the following benefits: Spell Cards are cast once more but do less damage. Summons revive once after being defeated, but with reduced Health. Spell and Summon Cards that are enhanced share the same card level as Albus Dumbledore. Each time he takes Damage, Dumbledore will apparate to a random location. 15 seconds after being summoned, Dumbledore will leave of his own accord. New Mythic Harry Potter Companion Card: Upon entering the arena, Young Harry restores a certain amount of MP for the player. Every two-card play triggers a pursuit by Young Harry, who flashes to the middle of the arena and releases a skill based on the MP difference between the two cards. The greater the difference, the stronger the effect. All new Dumbledore Echo available: A new Echo, Albus Dumbledore, has been added to Into the Woods (Echo). Dance Update: Companion Dance Challenge allows you to beat the companions' high scores in dances for various rewards and the new Dance Recording will record your dances and replay them with no UI in-game! New Treasure Trove Event: Enter the Treasure Trove alone or with up to two friends and retrieve precious items with Treasure Tickets, including Clockturn Keys, Gems, Gold, and more! New Player Squads Feature: Build your own squad in the wizarding world containing 4 to 8 players and raise your Squad Level together for various benefits. Updated Echo Conversion: The Echo Conversion now allows additional Echo conversions and flexibility when converting Echos as well. Each Echo can now be converted 50 times. While the first 10 conversions still cost Gold and Echo Crystals, the subsequent 40 conversions can be carried out with Gems or Conversion Spheres, a new currency added in this patch.
