## What is Hatchpedia?

How long have you wished you could identify hatching insects while you're still fishing? Now you can! Hatchpedia is Your Pocket Entomologist.

Hatchpedia makes precisely identifying hatching insects fast and easy. Our patent-pending search technology lets you describe the bugs that you are seeing using your own words. It's like a pocket-sized aquatic entomologist that speaks your language.

BACKCOUNTRY-READY
Hatchpedia is completely functional with no cell service or internet, with a grace period of up to 2 weeks past your next subscription renewal date.
You will never need to scramble up a hill hoping to find a bar or two of cell service - heck, you won't even have to leave the water no matter where your adventures take you.

SEARCH BY EXAMPLE
Sometimes words are hard. Use our graphical Search by Example feature to build up search phrases that describe the bug that you see.

CURATED PHOTOS OF ALL PHASES
Hatchpedia has photos of all of the phases of the bugs' lifecycles that are important to trout. We've pored over thousands of photos and painstakingly selected over 1,000 photos that we have licensed to help you identify the bug you are seeing with the greatest certainty possible.

DETAILED INFORMATION
Every search result gives you detailed information about the bug including: the common name, how confident we are in the search result and why, the complete taxonomy, the approximate size of the adult, what U.S. geographic regions it is known to hatch in, and the approximate dates that it hatches. In addition, every phase of every bug has a "Learn about this phase" feature that gives you a summary of the bug's lifecycle and details about the specific phase.

FROM SIMPLE TO COMPLEX PHRASES
Hatchpedia's search engine is custom-built and entomology-specific (patent pending). We support searches in your own words from very simple keywords to complex phrases. A very simple description of a bug might be simply 'upright wing' or 'upright wing 1/2 inch body', while a more complex description might be 'upright yellow mottled wing 12mm light yellow body 2 tails'. Our search feature doesn't require you to enter quotes or any other special characters as it works hard to figure out complex phrase combinations and match them against a huge database of entomological data with over 520 species that trout love to eat.

USE CURRENT LOCATION AND/OR DATE
Hatchpedia can use your current location and/or date to find bugs that are hatching around you *now*.

PLAN TRIPS
You can specify a region within the United States as well as a date in order to find bugs that will be hatching whenever and wherever your fishing trip will take you!

HATCHPEDIA FREE
You can also use Hatchpedia free of charge to learn more about the lifecycles and behaviors of the bugs that trout love to eat.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work

*2024-02-28*

The idea for this app is great. However, the basic functions don’t work. First of all there is no app, kicks you over to a website. The buttons to “Get Started” don’t work. When you try to find a fly it won’t let you add a location, it only allows current location, which says is blocked by my browser even though it’s not.

I gave up and cancelled my subscription.

**Developer response:** Good morning. I’m sorry to hear you were having so much trouble. There’s a lot to unpack here but maybe I can help:
* there is an iOS and an Android app that are downloadable via the App Store or Google Play Store. The functionality is identical to that on the website. Not sure how you ended up on the website. I suspect that perhaps you clicked on the version of our Ad that points at the website. All the links within the app only direct to App pages.
* there aren’t any “get started” buttons. I have to assume you are referring to the graphical Example buttons that generate key phrases for you and run simple searches. We’ve tested many (many) browsers as well as many mobile devices and they do work properly.
* when using a website in a web browser that wants to use your current geolocation, you must accept (allow) it to when it initially asks you. If you choose to not allow it, that setting is typically stored in the browser settings for that site and must be cleared in order to reset it.* the ability to select a specific U.S. Region and/or specify a Date to filter your search results, rather than using your current date and/or location, is available by tapping/clicking the Advanced > button which displays those inputs.

Again, I’m very sorry to hear that you had trouble. If you’d like to reach out via the Contact page (https://www.hatchpedia.com/Contact) I’d be happy to personally walk you through getting set up properly with the app on your device and I could even reset your 7-day trial for you.

There are also a set of 30-second quick tip videos on YouTube to help get started using the app - in these videos you can see the iOS app in action. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_KR9F7q0RM&list=PLUs1QGBip6Gb2ABUxNL2jLgxEh0-AzgZl)

Have a nice day. Tight lines!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-09-15*

I have been using the app frequently on IOS and it works flawlessly even without cell service. It’s easy to use and the descriptions and photos are excellent. It’s also a great educational tool.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much! We’re really glad to hear that you’re enjoying it. Tight lines!

### 5/5 — Love it!!!

*2023-05-12*

Amazing app and great tool to have with you on the water!

**Developer response:** So glad that you’re enjoying it and finding it helpful. Tight lines!

### 5/5 — Great tool with a lot of hard work

*2023-02-26*

I’m giving this five stars not because I was paid, given a free subscription, or because I’m a family member of the developer. I do so because I know that the person behind this app poured his heart and soul into it to make it as close to perfect as humanly possible (we know we can never obtain that category). I cannot wait to try this bugger out on my next trip and when I do some high alpine lakes backpacking/fishing trips. I’m certain it will point me in the right direction. Even if you think you know what to use, try this app, it may just bring you better results.

**Developer response:** Thank you very much! Can't say how much we appreciate that. :)

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2023-02-26*

I have been messing around with the web version for awhile now, simply amazing job at putting it all together. Now that the IoS version is launched I look forward to all the utility available now.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much!
